We hadn't been to this location since it was Bombay Club. The food at Maharaja was terrific. We are pesco-vegetarians and found the salmon delicious and the vegetable biryani the best we've ever had.
Delicious Indian food at reasonable prices. The restaurant is on the second floor and the walls are almost entirely windows, leaving you with a fantastic view of the iconic Harvard Square
Great selection of regional dishes in a pleasant setting overlooking Harvard square
We really enjoyed the food and they took great care of us!
Always excellent. Busier than when I’ve been in the past so a little louder, but consistently excellent food, service, value.
Love coming here. The food is great and the service is excellent.
Residing in the northern suburbs, my daughter and I traveled by subway - Orange Line and Red Line to visit The Maharajah. It's worth it!
It was a sunny day and we enjoyed our table by the window. We opted for the buffet. They have streamlined the buffet table and expanded their selections. Everything we chose was delicious.
Our gracious and friendly waiter saw to our every need, even assisting me as I walk with a cane. He offered to bring me any dish from the buffet.
The mark of a good restaurant, in my opinion, is when on a return visit, you anticipate the same great food and service, and you are not disappointed!
Quality Indian food flavor-fully spiced. Large windowed dining room is on the second level overlooking the goings on in the Harvard Square area. Small and large white table clothed dining tables, dim lighting in the evening with quiet Indian music playing in the background. Have been going there for years.
For two years I lived above a late night curry shop in London. The constant smell of the food and eating there far more than I should have out of sheer convenience meant that, at the end of my time there, I had sworn off Indian Cuisine forever. The food at Maharaja made me change my mind. The depth of flavor behind the spice in each dish, the subdued yet conscientious service, the imported hand carved woodwork, and the wrap around views of Harvard Square all combine to make this quiet spot a lesser known Cambridge gem. The paneer bhatura and chicken biryani are a personal favorite.
I come here for the great ambience and second-floor view of JFK street. The large window walls, table settings, bar, and lighting make for nice ambience. Even better, it does not get too loud to sustain a casual or serious conversation.
Food was great, but portions were a little small for the price.
Delicious selections- our favorites are chicken makhani, lamb Rohan josh and navrattan korma
Dependable good Indian Food. A great change from typical American/French menus. We like it a lot. Frankie is an excellent server.
Customer service has some room for improvement but otherwise it's a nice and airy place with good food and good views.
Very nice. Loved all the dishes except for the maharaja dal which was good but not excellent. The naan was fantastic as was the tandoori chicken. Nice decor and service. I recommend.
The quality of the food was amazing. Everything was cooked fresh to-order and was delicious. W need to come back here more often.
Solid all the way around - a little bit of construction as you enter restaurant.
Got a variety of dishes and each was tasty and well presented.
Got the goat Curry and it was delicious. It was very well seasoned and had just the right amount of heat. The waiter could have been a little more attentive but he was friendly so all in all ok. I will definitely go there again.
Excellent location but the entrance to the restaurant is under construction. It is on second floor with steep stairs. There is an elevator somewhere. Validates parking.
Everything was delicious (spicy lamb dish - can't remember the name, but it was the first on the lamb list - and the best Shrimp Saag I've ever had!) Fun and yummy cocktails that complimented the indian food. Nice quiet atmosphere with big windows overlooking Harvard Square.
Had been here many times over decades, but not in the last 7-10 years... and omg, it's still the same (the current guy's mom used to own/run it,) but with a more awesome view over Harvard Square! We had a lovely, friendly dinner pre-theater. Really not your standard Indian place. The seasoning seems much more subtle and delicious, and also less spicy. (We asked for "medium," which turned out super-tasty but mild, so don't be shy.) Thanks for a great dinner -- this will be our go-to place in Harvard Square!
Birthday dinner with friends - our waiter was friendly and the food was excellent!
One of my favorite Indian places. Tried the malai kofta and was delicious. Highly recommend
Nice table for 6. Good food
Nice location and seating with a view. Awesome Chat. Filling satisfying serving portions generous.
Great food!! We enjoyed the atmosphere as well.
The Maharaja is a really good Indian restaurant. Every dish we ordered was tasty and well prepared. We ordered Tandori Chicken and an eggplant dish, as well as a salmon curry. All the dishes were great. The standard Margarita I had were excellent.
Our bill for two people came to $95 w/o tip. For the quality of the food, I think it was reasonable.
The location in Harvard Square is very convenient. The small mall it is in is under renovation, but this doesn't really impact the restaurant.
I would gladly return to this place.
Nice Harvard Square restaurant overlooking the street and small park. The food is always fresh and is delivered hot. The service is very good and the prices reasonable. I have dined here before and will continue to do so.
Great Indian food in a lovely location overlooking the Square although I do miss the ornate carved wood tables and sizzling platters that disappeared in the fire several years ago. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the food reliable. With the bill half the price of many of the Harvard Square restaurants, it is a treasure!
The service was very good. However the food was only okay. We love Indian food and we were a bit disappointed with the quality.
Tried this for the first time. Wonderful dinner and a wonderful and efficient staff. Food was sophisticated and delicious. Great street view from the second floor.
Great menu. Delicious. Easy to share. Loved the round tables overlooking Harvard squares (great for conversation and views).
We had a lovely meal - ordered many dishes, and they were all wonderful. The eggplant masala in particular was our favorite!
Excellent Indian food in a very nice setting in Harvard Square.
There is a reason why The Maharaja is widely believed to be the best Indian restaurant in the Boston area. Besides its great location, it serves traditional Indian dishes the way that they are meant to be-- not diluted to serve local tastes. Authentic goat biriyani, excellent kebabs, and of course lots of vegetarian options.
We sat by the window and could watch Harvard kids hanging around in the park below. A great way to spend an evening in Cambridge.
Food was above average but dishes were unimaginative and portions were on the small side, especially for the price ($14-22). Waiters were aggressive about taking our order, which some people would really appreciate. Loved my cocktail though. My search for a great Indian restaurant in the Harvard Square area continues.
Every dish we had was delicious! Drinks were tasty as well. Please order the garlic naan with your meal, it's a must!
Maharaja is one of my favorite fancy places to go to for Indian food. The food is authentic and the ambiance is lovely. I highly recommend.
Service was outstanding. We had reservations, but still had to wait a couple of minutes. The owner was extremely apologetic and made sure to personally make sure our experience was fantastic. Highly recommend the food and service.
We visited this place on Sunday evening , we had booked the our table for 7 ppl . There were two people missing because finding a parking isn’t easy so they were looking for that . They did not seat us for 15 mins even though the place was empty . We had two old people with us who found it difficult to stand and wait but the staff was very cold and inconsiderate.
Now the food , I’ve eaten Indian food at a lot of places in Boston and nyc this was by far the worst food I had . The kabab were chewy and served cold . The chapati was hard as papad. Over all I would give this place negative reviews because of the inconsiderate staff and bad food .
Amazing and tasty food
