The setting of the restaurant is beautiful. Unfortunately, we were disappointed in the menu items as well as the level of service. Service seem relatively slow for a restaurant that was not full. In addition, the menu choices were limited technically because it was brunch even though it was 12 o’clock on a Saturday morning. In addition, a number of the items listed on the menu on the Internet did not match the menu items at the restaurant.
We had a wonderful brunch before our movie. Our server was excellent and very polite. Food was great.
With much of our family and friends away for the holidays, we decided to see a movie and have dinner at The Lot on Christmas this year. The movie was fun and our early dinner afterwards was delightful! Our waiter let us chat over a leisurely meal and we thoroughly enjoyed every moment!
I would recommend the movie theater but not the brunch... We Will not do another holiday Christmas Day brunch the food was dry, cold & they didn’t fill up the empty food trays... they also had two sets of two tortilla dishes (two tooo many) one with red sauce one with green & then another set of two that were the same thing but hard thick strips of over cooked tortillas of who knows what could have brien a tooth on them.. these two dishes were repetitive very dry and tasteless... the meat was so dry as well! the desserts looked great when we walked in small custards pies cakes cookies etc...but after we ate our brunch there was only red velvet cake and very sweet baking soda tasting color sprinkled cookies! No one replenished the deserts our brunch was at 1:30pm and it was like we got the crumbs of what was left... we should of had the same desserts as everyone else who paid the same money...not worth the money at all very disappointed.
We were not aware that there would only be an expensive buffet option available. The restaurant is lovely and food good, but we were not looking for $35/person breakfast. Service was fine but waitstaff was sparse.
Fabulous Christmas brunch. The food and mimosas were fantastic
We love coming to the Lot for dinner before seeing a movie. We especially love Ryan, the restaurant manager. He is always very attentive. :-)
The restaurant was loud and servers kept the doors open despite the rain and cold outside so we were a bit cold. Food was good.
Reservation for 2. All that was available when we arrived, on time, was a 4 or 6 seat table... Food was good.
Restroom floor was filthy. Only 1 of 2 faucets was working. 2nd ladies room was closed when we came out of the movie.
Price for the “ambiance” it supposedly exudes was lacking.
The food was very sub par and very slow to arrive. My husband ordered poached eggs and the yolk was hard as a rock.
While we enjoy The Lot normally, the variety of food was very limited on the Thanksgiving buffet. Service was good for our beverages though and overall it's a good restaurant .
Got a nasty email saying I never showed up
Food was cold
Soup was cold
Our server was cold
I wish the service was better but unfortunately it ruined our dining experience. Our waitress was super sweet but it took 10 minutes for her to acknowledge our table when we sat down. We asked for waters and ordered bar drinks and sodas for the kids, but for all the drinks to come out, it took 20 minutes to finally get the last of the 4 waters we had ordered. We ordered appetizers that took a while to arrive but just a few minutes later, we were interrupted by our entrees.... we had just started on our apps. That was super frustrating... we wanted to enjoy our appetizers but had to ditch eating them for worry that our entrees would get cold sitting on the table. Although our waitress was sweet, it took forever to have our requests fulfilled. The restaurant is pretty cool with the airplanes flying over and the open atmosphere but I really wish they would pay more attention to the clients and what the table needs individually.
With a reservation, we sat at a communal table facing strangers, so we could not easily speak with each other. (It was too noisy, besides). We were never greeted. After 15 minutes I asked the hostess for water. By the time someone came to take our order we knew the food would not be ready before our movie so we had it delivered to our seats which we wanted to avoid (concerned we'd be eating in the dark and my dad is 85). We learned later that they had happy hour which we could not take advantage of because we weren't able to put our order in timely. The food was so so. Nothing I'd go back to have again.
Food is really good: Fresh, nicely prepared, tasty.
Server "Harrison" is super.
Great meal and movie to boot.
Great place ! Love it! Wish they’d expand their menu.
We watched a boxing match and everything was great!!
The staff makes you feel at home even though the location is dramatic.
The Lot is a great treasure for Point Loma. We had a great time at Taco Tuesday as we usually do.
Private party in the restaurant side had a killer Latin pop band. Best brunch ever. Rather be at the Lot Liberty Station than the Hotel Del Coronado.
Open concept, chic, great view of the fountain: grassy area! Very relaxing
Birthday celebration for my mother. The ambiance was enjoyable. The service was average to good. The server was very pleasant. The food was average and they had limited selection on dessert. It is a beautiful venue and I would return for drinks, but I would probably not return for dinner.
No soap or trash can in restrooms. And now I have to add characters to a succinct review
Made a reservation, showed up for brunch to a restaurant with just a handful of tables, no hostess just a bartender and a waiter both of whom looked at us several times but didn’t assist our party while we stood there for 10 min. TEN MINUTES. So we left.
Service was extremely slow and inattentive
Bill was wrong
Modern scenery. The food is good, but definitely on the pricier side. We went on Taco Tuesday. We did not get tacos. It is $25 for unlimited which is a pretty good deal. There was a live band, but it was so loud we couldn’t talk to each other. It is a nice place though. I would still go back.
This is a beautiful spot with a lot of potential, however our experience was pretty ”meh”, and at some points even comical. For starters, the server, who was very sweet, was either brand new or pretty inexperienced. Within our first few minutes of sitting, we were bombarded being asked if we were ready to order. Then, when I asked if they had a Pinot Grigio by the glass, she recommended a Cabernet in its place. I kindly pointed out that I was looking for a white. After receiving our drinks she took our order and then disappeared for quite some time. When she returned, she brought a whole, uncut tomato on a plate with a knife. She explained that this should be used as a palate cleanser between courses and mentioned that we could even have salt and pepper upon request. When I said “ok, can we have the salt and pepper?” She seemed a little put out, and replied “oh.....uh, ok”. My friend ordered the heirloom tomato and beet salad as her entree which was $18. To add a protein it would have been another $10-12 on top of that. When the salad arrived it was pretty much a handful of small cherry tomatoes and beets spread on a long plate. This seemed like a side salad, at best. I had soup and brussels sprouts which were very good. The brussels sprouts (and our drinks) were on happy hour prices which was great. Everything tasted very good. When it was time to pay, we had to flag our server down to get the check and then it took a solid 20 minutes for her to pick it back up, and again, we had to flag her down. All in all it’s a lovely spot and the food was tasty but I found it pricey and there was a lot of improvement needed in the service. I might go have drinks and apps for happy hour but I’d likely not go for a meal again. On a side note, we also went to the movies and the theater is lovely.
Arrived with a reservation with an hour and a half to eat before our movie started. It took over 5 minutes for a hostess to appear to seat us. Once seated, we waited for 10 minutes until the same hostess brought us water. We were ready to order and placed the order with her (who said she'd pass it on to our server)for our entrees and a beer, because at the rate we were going, we were worried that if we ordered appetizers we'd be late for the movie. 45 minutes later we were still sitting with an empty table. I had asked the person serving the table next to us if he knew who our server was and he said no. Meanwhile, it was trivia night in the bar and the noise from the p.a. was awful. Then the hostess came by and said the kitchen was backed up and gave us some free chips. I asked her who our server was and she said that she kinda was, though for most of the time we were there she was acting as a dish washer for the bar. After over an hour, and our movie time approaching, we said the heck with this and requested that our order be cancelled. About 10 minutes later, the manager showed up at the table (with our orders that we now had no time to eat) and apologized, basically blaming the hostess. He did comp our meals, that we then had to get boxed up. We took the boxes to the car and headed into the theater. We waited for 5 more minutes at the snack bar and no one was there, plus the theater was clearly understaffed as there was trash and popcorn all over the floor all through the place. And this is supposed to be a 'luxury' theater. Avoid at all costs.
Normally I always love the Lot. Went for the Downton Abby hightea and it was awful. The tea sandwiches were mediocre with zero presentation. Got the smallest sliver of a scone. It was the saddest tea I have ever been too. Plus my friend asked if there was pineapple in the dessert because she is allergic and the manager never came back with the answer. But I have to say our waiter was great. And they did end up comping our tea. Then went and say the movie and order the calamari cuz we were all starving after “tea” and I have had it there before but this time it was not. So disappointed.
This was supposed to be high tea. For $20 we got 4 very small finger sandwiches, 3 small cookies, and a tiny tart, and a cup of hot water with several tea bag choices. Very meager and unimpressive. Then they marked us as no-shows even though we were there, on time for our reservation. We won’t be going back.
They were setting up for a party that I was unaware of. Tables were dirty and the music was way too loud.
The restaurant is beautiful! the views are amazing, the food is good, but the service is the worst in town. If you are okay never seeing your waiter this is your place, or having to flag them for everything. Total bummer!
Made a reservation but when we arrived and I told them we had a reservation they directed us to open seating in the bar? It seemed that all of the main dining room was taken up by a private party. Another private party outside. They seemed to be overwhelmed. Okay, no problem.
Only 3 of our 4 meals were ordered so the fourth had to be reordered and we had the awkward wait while the warm meals cooled. The kind waitress comped the meal I think. It took some time to receive a glass of wine though the bar was within reach.
Got an email encouraging me not to make a reservation and then not show up. Sigh...
I have nothing more to add. We enjoyed our meal. The service was great
I loved my food except for the broccolini which is so difficult to bite into the stem.....perhaps cut them a little?
Service was awful. Barely ever saw the waitress and waited a long time to put an order in and get the check. Definitely never eating a meal here again. Not worth it.
Amazing Sunday brunch buffet!
Placed a reservation same day for a party of 8. Everything was excellent: food, service, ambiance!!
Had a great time - our server was wonderful!!
And such a pretty view. Airplanes are a bit distract at first but after a while we didn’t even notice them.
Highly recommend this venue!
The patio was very hot; granted it was hot outside, but for an area with so much shade, fans would help a lot. The food choices are not great for entrees, overall the appetizers are better value and selection. The bar tender was left to run the bar and wait on the tables. He did a spectacular job. Up-charging for gluten free foods and not listing ingredients like sesame seeds on edamame in menu is bad business and reason enough not eat there again. Would have cocktails at bar again, but that is extent. The theater was clean, however, the mail in discount postcard was a pain trying to work out with the front desk who tried to credit me for a later date versus reimburse me what owed. In the end I was reimbursed, but seemed like a shady business arrangement. Restaurant and bar to symbiotic to offerings in theatre, bar should have signature dish or three of them to make it an experience onto itself. Movie offerings were weak and not in line with what is in theatres. Therefore it is challenging to recommend and made me believe the theatre being empty is not accidental. Bathrooms clean and well kept.
All was going very well throughout the meal. Sunday Brunch Buffet was grand, with a good selection of various American items, although, I missed having crackers with the nice cheese spread. My waiter was good and asking for my bill, I gave him my discount coupon. 2 for 1 Sunday Buffet up to 6 people per coupon. We were 4 in our party. The bill came back charging for 3 Sunday Brunch Buffets. That didn't following THE LOT coupon. So I asked the waiter and he said he talked to a manager and that was his decision. Well, it's not right, so go back and get it corrected. He said another manager gave the correct coupon discount. You need to TRAIN YOUR MANAGER !! All your managers should follow THE LOT coupon. Having to go through all this commotion, after having good menu, leaves a very bad taste in all your mouths. I very surprised that manager is not educated enough to understand a 2 for 1 coupon or he just wanted to play a fast one, on your customer. That Manager's salary for that Sunday should be taken from him and given to my waiter for his follow through. GETTING THE CORRECT BILL. Please follow through on my recommendation. You don't need to fire the manager, but I think it will help him a lot in dealing with your THE LOT's customers - losing a day's salary. I'll be happy to hear what was the outcome or results from my review. With the right response, I would change my "No" to a "Yes" and would frequent THE LOT often. Thank you.
