   Loved this spot! I didn’t know it was a gluten free menu, but everything I had was excellent. Things are a little unique as the chef puts their special spin on things 🤩 so if you see something like “ranchero sauce” don’t expect the same sauce you get at a taqueria. And speaking of that, the menu is super diverse and shows seafood, a little Mexican food, some Italian, Hawaiian, Cajun dishes.. probably more but that’s all I can remember for now. I gotta come back for dinner and drinks next time I visit!

   We waited a good 30 minutes at our table before going to find someone to see about getting a server. The server came over and was ver apologetic, but it still took over an hour to get our dinner. The restaurant did comp our drinks and appetizer and, again, the server was very apologetic which went a long way, but overall service clearly was struggling throughout the entire restaurant. Food was good and their spot on the ocean is nice.

   Just as other reviews have stated, the wait time between ordering any receiving food is very lengthy. 2 hours to get food out is not acceptable for anyone with children or on a time constraint. Server was darling and felt terrible as it was no fault of his own. Clearly there is some sort of logistical breakdown at this establishment. Wanted to love it but just couldn’t due to the very lengthy wait time between ordering and receiving orders. Also, the gluten free breading on fried pickles and fish my husband ordered was very bland in his opinion.

   When we arrived at our reservation, we were immediately seated, as expected when one has a reservation, waiter took our drink order/appetizers, etc. We received our appetizer at a fair time, and ordered our main course when it came. Time went by, our server checked on us from time to time, no updates on our food whatsoever. Then as more and more time passed, we were wondering where our food was. We didn't ask about our food until about an hour and a half passed by, mind you, we didn't think we'd have to ask because when we eat out at a restaurant, we assume the server is exceptional enough to give us updates as they check on us(and he checked on us way too often.) Well, we assumed wrong. I stepped away from the table to use the restroom, and when I came out, I saw our server laughing with the other workers as they were all staring at me from inside. When I sat back down, my friend informs me that they never put in our ticket for our food. Then the server came up to me to explain that "the system went down for about 30 minutes, and it just so happened that we were the only table affected when it failed." He was apologetic but didn't offer any kind of compensation for our troubles whatsoever. From my experience of working in restaurants, in that incident, a good business would offer to cover our appetizer, and/or offer to still have the food made, if we didn't mind waiting longer. Another thing that I am failing to understand is how we were "the only table affected," yet the system was down for "30 minutes" and it was a busy Friday night. The server made a mistake by forgetting to put our ticket in, that is one thing that I can understand, it happens, it may mean they're not a great server, but it happens. But lying about simply forgetting to put our ticket in/blaming it on the system and not offering anything for our troubles is just terrible service, point blank.

    We waited 20 minutes for anyone to ask for our drink order even though it wasn’t busy. My hamburger was undercooked and I had to send it back. It returned very overdone. The atmosphere is nice but it comes at a price. The food is overpriced for what you get and the quality is just not good. I’m going to look elsewhere to take my out of town guests for seafood. I would not recommend this place and won’t be returning.

    Beautiful upgrade to the aesthetics of the place. Food was cooked better than previous restaurant. The place is not as high class as it appears online, just makeup to fool the eye. I was told to make reservation and we were the only table in the place, inside and out, for almost the whole two hours we were there. That is of course except the manager and staff that hung out at the bar most of the time. Probably a great place to hang out after a long day fishing or boating…

    Took a while to receive simple bar requests, such as Bud Light in a cold glass. Many requests simply ignored. Fried chicken with mash was brought out cold and send back. Lots of work to be done on wait staff and filling simple bar orders.

    The booths in this place are ridiculous. Yes, ridiculous. Nobody wants to or can sit in them because they are built for teenagers who weigh 100 pounds. You. Need. To. Fix. This. Who wants to sit down and realize you are too big to sit in a booth? Really makes you want to sit down and eat. Bar service is slow. 10 minutes + to get a cocktail is ridiculous. This is the same as it was last time we went here about a year ago. When there’s like 10 people in the restaurant and we are the only ones drinking, I just don’t understand what takes so long. Waitress was not familiar with the wine list. No excuse. Ambience is nothing special and the bright led lights are doing you no favors. If you were fortunate to have great weather and could sit out on the expansive patio area and drink and watch the birds then I would consider returning. The hostess needs to up her game. Dress the part and actually do something besides sitting there and chatting with the other girl there who is being trained. Dinner menus not put on the table when it’s dinner is your fault and then when the waitress comes over to get one, giving her attitude when she asks for one is unacceptable because that was your job to put it on the table in the first place. Also hostess staff should not be eating at their workstation- c’mon! It’s not even busy. People aren’t allowed to take a break and eat? Ridiculous! The flatfish thermidor was the highlight. Nothing else we had is worth getting again. Bread not great and calamari was fine. I realize this is a 100% gluten free restaurant but it’s not for everyone. Gluten free food is not great for things that require breading and buns for burgers. The two guys across from us didn’t even eat their burgers and fries- guys not eating burgers and fries! Bottom line- up your game on the atmosphere and comfort level. Hostess staff should be attentive and professional. Most people don’t want gluten free food- they just don’t.

    The service was very slow even though they were not busy. The crab, bacon & brie stuffed mushrooms were excellent. The entrees were not rememberable.

    Tried them a couple of times when they first opened after changing ownership and frankly it was a very bad experience each time. I recently noticed they had changed their menu so we decided to give them one more chance and I'm glad we did. The service and food were great. No more weird dishes that you have to Google to figure out what they are. We have been twice in the last couple of weeks and it was great both times. The prices are not anymore expensive than the other nice restaurants in the area and the portions are generous. Thank you for listening to your customers. The fried shrimp was excellent. We will be back for sure.

    Great spot…it does get a little chilly outside so dress accordingly. Great mushroom appetizer! Loved the lamb pops and the coconut shrimp!

    From reservations to service to amazing food The Lookout @ staff didn’t disappoint. Will definitely be back. Amazing fresh Gulf seafood & beautiful deck overlooking the Laguna Madre. Off the beaten path but we’ll worth the visit. Locals only vibes .

    We were vacationing in Port Aransas and saw this restaurant on “Find Me Gluten-free”. After reading the reviews we had to check it out. Gluten free facility. I had fried shrimp for the first time in years. Cooked perfectly and twice the size of normal fried shrimp. The fries were light and tasty. We truly enjoyed the food, drinks and looking at the bay. We liked it so much we are returning tonight for our anniversary dinner.

    Very disappointed. Made a 7 o'clock reservation, arrived 10 min early. Was seated immediately. I am a patient patron but when there are wait staff including management walking around clueless to our presence, I draw the line. We sat 15 minutes with no acknowledgement. The manager offered an apology ONLY when I brought this to his attention. So surprised I was not offered some reconciliation for our inconvenience. Not very professional and WILL not be going back.

    A very good quiet find to escape the tourist-trap, down down fish eateries. Great view of the marina and gulf. Relaxing environment, but plenty of guests to keep the fun level up. Waits staff was great and very knowledgeable of the needs of my wife’s celiac precautions. My fried fish was fantastic and more than enough on my plate. There is now way to tell the difference from the traditional heat based breading on the fish from their gluten free version. Only a 30 minute drive from down town and well worth the drive.

    I was excited to return to The Lookout, and had talked it up quite a bit to the friend we brought to dinner with us. I’ll know better next time to keep my mouth shut.😒 It’s been a while since I had my food handler’s permit, and I’m just guessing here…but I’m thinking vaping is probably not allowed in the kitchen area, right? 🤔And if a glass accidentally broke behind the bar, after you’re done sweeping it up with the broom you’d never, ever lift it over the top of the bar to hand it to another employee to put up…you’d walk the broom and dustpan around the bar and put it where it belongs. Otherwise MAJOR contamination, right? And I would have asked to speak to the manager, but I’m pretty sure the gentleman with the blue hair (who had also just taken a big drag off his vape) that stopped by our table and asked “How’s everything this evening?” was the manager. SMH.

    Ate here when it initially opened and it was great. Recently went twice and will not be going back for sometime. Bottom line the food is alright, drinks are okay, price is a bit high but on par with other water front establishments. In the recent visit most people didn’t finish their food and some didn’t even finish the wine.

    Overall, we love this place. However, just a few suggestions -- 1.) fry your french fried longer. Mine were pale and limp. 2.) Offer bread as an option -- some of your yummy dishes need bread to soak up the goodness. 3.) Burger was over cooked and we never got the jalapenos we requested. Staff are excellent and appear to be trained well.

    What a gem this place is!! We discovered it a few weeks ago and have been back several times. It's clear to us that the wait staff has been well trained; they're attentive, polite and patient. I especially like the options of grilled fish for specials. Keep it up Look Out - you're fabulous!
