The Log Cabin
Our dinner selection were excellent but the service was very lack luster!
The food was poor. They do not sell any beer. This was our first and last time to eat there.
The building itself is charming, and might be worth a repeat visit just for that. This said: 1) service was a bit abrupt, and not very polished. I really expected better for a bill for two that came to over $100. 2) while the pasta/mushroom dish was excellent, the quail/bacon was drowned/lost in a spicy sauce, and the pork osso bucco was bland. Disappointing, again, especially for the price. 3) we were not offered dessert or coffee; is this standard? We felt we were being rushed to the door so you could turn the table. Again, might return, might not; would probably not recommend. Sorry. A disappointment.
I don’t typically give five stars to anything. But this is a true gem in Highlands, NC. The building is truly an old log cabin. It has a great, quiet ambiance. You feel like you’re in the mountains. The wine list is extremely reasonable with the most expensive bottle coming in at $110. Entrees are reasonable and include all the typical fare: tenderloin, a couple fish dishes, sone pastas. Something for everyone. This isn’t a super fancy and snooty place. It’s a relaxed, mountain atmosphere with waiters who chat with you like you’re an old friend. It’s my new fav restaurant in Highlands.
Our server, Maddie, was great and the kitchen staff were accommodating for our special dietary needs!
It was great
One of our favorite dining experiences!
The Log Cabin is always a wonderful dining experience for us. Both my husband and I absolutely love it!
The wait staff was courteous and proficient. The chef prepared the Halibut to perfection. Overall, we had a very good experience.
Quaint restaurant in a beautiful setting. Halibut and salad were outstanding!
Always an amazing experience. If you find yourself in Highlands, NC it is a must!
Lovely dinner ! The halibut was incredible as was the service! We will be back !
Casual and the food was fantastic
Simply the worst service I ever experienced. Food was okay not amazing.
This is a wonderful casual rustic environment with excellent quality food. The menu has some unique selections as well as some traditional dishes. The wine list is extensive and priced at a reasonable mark up from the retail price. The service was prompt and friendly.
I came for my niece’s wedding the evening before and wanted a place to have dinner with my sisters and nieces and nephew before flying back home. Our waitress was amazing. Great recommendations on wine choices and menu items. I love that the menu was not so overwhelming. The food was unbelievable. Chef really knows his sauces. Beautiful restaurant. Would love to go again!!!
Awesome experience! This was our first time to the Log Cabin and we will definitely be back!

Heard nothing but amazing things about The Log Cabin so of course my husband and I had to try it out. We were in town for our babymoon and had such a wonderful experience around town. The waitress we had was absolutely terrible she was so rude tossed our plates on the table that my food literally fell off onto the table rushed us in and out had to ask for refills on our drinks and picked our plates up before asking if we were finished eating. All the other tables around us had very personable waitress and seemed so sweet. Guess we just her on a bad night.
Outstanding food, cozy atmosphere, and helpful staff
Everything was perfect! Staff was amazing. The atmosphere was great and the food and wine delicious! I can’t wait to go back!
Great date night. Very quiet and very fast service
We’ve eaten at Log Cabin a number of times but tonight our experience was less than satisfactory. First, we ordered wine and were later told that wine wasn’t available but, for slightly more, we were given a different bottle of wine. Strangely, this has happened to us before at Log Cabin. Then we ordered a basket of focaccia bread that we never got. To top it off, my husband ordered the fettuccine that the waiter recommended (with pheasant) but they brought him something entirely different (with pheasant too but not what he ordered).
First time to Log Cabin on a recommendation. We will definitely be back when we return to Highlands. Everything was perfect!
We were disappointed that we did not get reservations at the restaurant where we were staying, but they recommended we try The Log Cabin. What a nice surprise! The setting was perfect and our food was excellent. Our server was very knowledgeable and made great recommendations. We had the butternut squash ravioli and the antelope chop. Both were incredible. We will definitely return to the Log Cabin.
Had 7:00 reservations and arrived on time. Waited over 5 minutes before someone showed at the host/hostess desk. Plenty of servers had seen us waiting. By this time two more couples arrived behind us. After taking our name, the host asked us to step to the side and asked the other couples their names. They both had 7:30 reservations, and wanted to get a drink. No bar but the host handed them a wine list and proceeded to play around on the computer. Meanwhile, we are standing off to the side. He then takes their drink orders and enters into the computer. Finally, looks over at us and asks us our name again. 7:15 and we finally get seated with numerous empty tables in the restaurant. Our server Heidi was good but inexperienced. The food was overpriced and nothing special. The bottle of wine was the highlight. Probably not visiting the Log Cabin again.
I was a bit hesitant to try this restaurant due to some negative reviews about service, but was glad we decided to give it a go. Not surprisingly, our server wasn't the friendliest but we made it a game (we were a group of six) to see if we could get her to smile, and we did a number of times! The food was excellent and the atmosphere warm and convivial. Will definitely revisit next trip to Highlands.
Great service. Management very visible. Food wonderful
Awesome everything! Wonderful ambiance, great food, great service!
Love this romantic gem!!!! Was in town with my boyfriend and we had dinner for the first time here. The ambience, food, wine selection, service and owner were all impeccable!!! Highly recommend!!
We had eaten at the Log Cabin years ago when it was a wild game restaurant and loved it. When we went back a year or so later, it had changed hands and I think it was an Italian restaurant, which we decided not to eat at. This recent trip, we were happy to see it was supposed to be a wild game restaurant again, so we tried it. The ambiance is great. Log Cabin feel with fires warming the interior. Very cozy. We got there and no one was at the front desk to greet us. We waited about 10 minutes, with wait staff passing by but not acknowledging us. More people came in behind us and we were all waiting in the small reception area some more. Finally, someone came out and seated us. The staff is polite but lacking. Menu is ok. Our meals were ok. No help with wines and our waitress seemed very rushed. So much so, that she brought us our bill before we could ask for dessert and coffee. Again, maybe they were short staffed or something. It was ok. That's about it.
Birthday dinner that was very nice. Cold night in the mountains made better with good food and a welcoming fire in the fireplace.
The atmosphere was alright but I would imagine that it would be really nice in the summer months, especially on the porch. The problem that I had with our experience was that the restaurant staff were extremely obvious about wanting us to leave so that they could close the restaurant. Our reservation was for 7:30, but we arrived early and were seated as soon as we arrived. We didn't order appetizers and began eating our entrees as soon as they were delivered. It didn't take long for us to notice that our server... and several other staff members... kept walking past our table and looking at us (as they gathered the fresh flowers from the other tables in the restaurant and put them in a box on a table next to ours). There were two other tables still occupied (one with 2 guests and another with 6-8 guests). Once the 2-top left, it became almost embarrassing. They REALLY wanted my sister and me to leave. Our server didn't even ask if we would like coffee or dessert (and we would have loved some); she just brought us the bill. We were pleasant, caused no trouble, and made no special requests and were out of there by 8:30. Our server was pleasant enough, just too obvious that she didn't want us to stay. It was the only negative on an otherwise perfectly lovely weekend in Highlands.
Lovely experience. We try to come here whenever we are in Highlands. It is well run and while it is a somewhat traditional menu the subtle creativity is exceptional. New item on the menu was short ribs and it was great! The desert tart was also great. Thanks for everything
Everything was fantastic, food was great, server was very friendly and did a great job
Great setting in a charming Cabin, our waitress was knowledgeable and had great suggestions. Everything was perfect outside of obnoxiously loud person sitting next to us!
Enjoyed a wonderful dinner and wine! Will always eat here when I’m the Highlands.
Very good, but pricey when iced tea refills are charged as a new drink- not in the South!
Excelent! The place is tipival classic to the Montaigne is cosy and warming
We were seated at table had ordered the shrimp appetizer, ordered our meals and power went out. Shrimp was delicious. But kitchen was unable to cook. Our server, Jordan, was excellent. Keep giving us updates on power situation and bringing drinks as needed. Power never came back on by 7pm so we left. Will definitely go back.
