Large menu selection however, the food was just average. Service was spotty. Never received bread. Bottle of wine we ordered was not available. They only serve wine, no cocktails and it seemed as if they were rushing to turn over the table. To be honest, it was a holiday weekend and one chef called in sick so perhaps on another occasion it would have been better

We had 8:30pm reservations on a holiday weekend. We only had a short wait for our table. Waitress was knowledgeable and handled the timing of our appetizers, salads and entrees perfectly. Food and wine were excellent.

The food and service was great but I asked to substitute a veggie for risotto and was charged $5 extra. Talked to the guy at the front desk and got some lame excuse about only having so much of each item. Plus they charged 4% to use any credit card. Who carries $200 cash in their pocket? Crazy! Loved the food, service and ambience, but won't go back.

This is one of our favorites in Highlands! They are always welcoming, the food is good and they serve our kids with food allergies without question!

The host who met us on arrival was not at sll cordial or showed he cared we even came in. The steaks were overcooked and our server never came back to check on us during our meal...only to ask if we desired to look at a dessert menu. This was our second visit to this restaurant and ww will probably not return on future visits to Highlands, NC.

Service poor, getting to our table took a while, always on the phone instead of attending to guests. It was our Anniversary and our children ordered a cake, (we didn’t know about it) never came!! I called the next day, spoke to the Chef who was going to inform the owner...still waiting to hear back.

Upon arrival at the quaint Log Cabin, we were greeted by the infamous “Jason”, of OpenTable lore. There was a hint of annoyance in his gaze. After requesting outdoor seating, we were promptly given an “educational rant” as to why he doesn’t allow his patrons to venture into the great outdoors while dining in the “unpredictable” weather of the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau. What were we to do if the temperatures suddenly dropped “up to 15 degrees” while dining al fresco? Or worse yet, what if it rained? We were put in our place immediately. I can’t believe we were naive enough to request eating outdoors in the suffocating 70 degree summer weather with crystal clear skies and nigh a raindrop to be found. But I digress. Despite mentioning our happiness to be far from Florida’s sweltering summer heat, we were seated in Florida Everglades section of the “log cabin”. By this, we refer to the vintage Everglades tourist attraction poster hanging crookedly on the wall). Intentional? At this point, you’re probably wondering why we chose to give The Log Cabin 4 stars. Enter Vanessa: A proverbial angel in the Lion’s Den (the Lion being Jason). Vanessa, Vanessa, where do we begin? Vanessa strode into the Everglades section on an airboat of grace in a river of grass. She was confident, yet non-presumptuous, friendly, and professional. In short, she was the antithesis of Jason. Although two of the items we desired were temporarily unavailable, our alternate selections surely pleasured the palate. The calamari was impeccable. It was confident, yet non-presumptuous, friendly and professional. A true, “underwater treasure”. 10/10, would recommend. Entré the entrees. My compatriots and I, in retrospect, chose wisely (Vanessa offering bits wisdom along the way). The lamb shank covered risotto was succulent. Our double order of scallops were double the pleasure...double the fun. The chicken parmigiana lived up to its storied Joyce Farms heritage. Food good, Jason bad.

This was our second visit to The Log Cabin. The first was great, hence our return. Our waiter was fine, but the "host" was ABYSMAL. Upon our arrival, we were not greeted; we were not even looked at. The host talked to another couple for two minutes without so much as acknowledging us standing before him. Our guest finally asked, “How are you doing tonight?” He ignored him. He did not smile, did not speak, even as he led us to our tables. He acted as though we were inconveniencing him. I have never encountered a ruder restaurant staff member…or was he the owner? The food was great (wine recommendation, not so much) and the environment was fine, so it’s a shame this guy ruined our experience. We won’t be back. Which is a loss for The Log Cabin, because as residents, we entertain a great number of both out-of-town and local dinner guests. When employees act as though they couldn’t give a rip whether or not they have our business, they won’t have to worry about it. They won’t have it. Not only has the restaurant lost our business, but we will be sharing our experience with all our local friends…and perhaps on social media. In a community with such stiff competition, the owner of The Log Cabin are shooting themselves in the foot by putting this type of individual front and center.
