Amazing food!!! Lovely experience!
Everything was perfect. Great food, drinks and service!
Our salad was brought out while we were still eating our soup. Even after we asked the waiter to hold off on the next course. Soup was average. The salad was very good and the Shrimp Scampi was good.
Sa w our waiter maybe four times throughout the meal.
Loved the romantic feel! Prime rib and drinks were great. Overall experience was amazing. Definitely will come back.
Great food and service, enjoy coming back every time.
We didn’t appreciate the 1.5 hour limit on our dinning, which we were not made aware of until we arrived. We weren’t forced from our table but we don’t appreciate feeling rushed when you spending $$$ for dinner.
Food good and service very good.
First time inside dining since February. Felt very safe. Plenty of room for social distancing. Food was quite excellent. Great job
great little place have never been disappointed. very nice staff
This lovely little bistro had sidewalk seating for us. It so reminded me of a bistro in Europe. The menu has a wide variety of tempting apps, entrees and desserts. There was a daily fall Manhattan that was tasty. Our server was very conscientious following mask guidelines. I really look forward to returning either for dine in or take out.
Ate outside so noise is not really relevant. Only one server at lunch and she was kept busy. We were in no hurry and did not feel unattended. Food was very good....and portions were sizeable. All 3 of us took home enough to have for supper. Will return.
Had the "Sliced Prime Rib Sandwich." I should have taken a picture of it but I was a little taken aback I guess to think of it at the time. Was not pretty or appetizing looking, although taste was ok. Was expecting thickish slices of reddish brown roast beef. Was more like shaved super thin the dark brown color of gyros. The cucumber mint martini was good. My wife liked the "Seafood Risotto" but they charged $4 more than what was listed on menu. Ate outdoors but its on the sidewalk so people kept walking through. Based on this experience, probably won't be back.
I ordered the sirloin steak and it was delicious. I love the chimichurri sauce that comes with it. Chef Martin told me he got a new supplier whom provides more marbling on the steak. It was delicious which I followed up with his homemade Godiva mousse!
I was there with three other people and there was not one item that the 5 previous stars where well deserved, truly a GEM of a restaurant
Well portioned and great tasting food. If looking for small venue with a nice ambiance the little gem is a spot to check out.
Underwhelming. We have been to The Little Gem several times and have had good experiences, which is why I booked it for our anniversary celebration. Not so much tonight. I booked a table a few weeks in advance to ensure outdoor seating and noted that it was for an anniversary. Neither the host nor our server mentioned the occasion. OK. As we sat down, the host explained their COVID protocols -- masks on for any interactions with staff, QR code instead of menu on the table, the table is turned over in 90 minutes. Got it. We used the QR code for our food menu, but then were given a paper cocktail menu along with it. Huh? Bread plates and silverware were brought to the table with what appeared to be single-ply paper towels as napkins. Huh, again. There was no evidence of hand sanitizer or wipes for diners to use, despite the COVID protocols listed by the restaurant on OpenTable. The Little Gem website and QR menu were quite clear about a "Prime Rib Special Friday & Saturday!", which my husband was looking forward to, yet when we asked our server, she said, "Oh, there's no prime rib" (and we had an early reservation, so doubtful they were "out"), in a tone that was like "how strange that you are asking". The dressing on my Caesar salad was sparse. Our second round of cocktails, ordered before our entrees, arrived just as we were eating our last bites. The table was not cleared throughout the meal, and I ended up stacking plates and empty cocktail glasses in a corner of the table just to make room. At one point, the server left a water pitcher that she had been using to fill other tables on the table -- not COVID-safe. This is not an inexpensive venue, and we were quite disappointed. I applaud Little Gem's measures to keep their staff safe, but those measures need to extend to patrons. Pedestrians are permitted to walk through the outdoor seating (it's a public sidewalk), and as one might expect, their mask compliance and social distancing wer uneven.
We ate outside on the sidewalk- nothing too special but given the circumstances, we We’re just happy to be out. Everything else was outstanding from the toasted garlic bread through to the chocolate mousse. Excellent service!
Menu was a typical brunch menu. Mimosas for $5 was nice. Slightly overpriced for a avg food. Service was spotty. Not really memorable
The restaurant was very loud. The appetizer we ordered seemed to be microwaved bread with cheese - gross! I also tried to order a few other things and they were out. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
I really wanted to like this restaurant. Food was pretty and nicely prepared, but the underlying ingredients did not seem fresh. Filet tasted more like a tougher steak. This might have been overlooked if the service had been better. We waited a full 75 minutes before being served appetizers, despite other diners being seated well after us and being served some of the same dishes 20 minutes earlier than we were. It was odd. It did feel like a neighborhood restaurant so perhaps regulars were prioritized. Our appetizers were actually quite good when they did arrive and the restaurant did not charge us for them, which was very nice. We might consider returning when things are back to normal and would maybe ask what their signature dishes are before ordering. This might be more of a roasted chicken restaurant.
The food was amazing.
Excellent food in a safe environment. We ate inside and we’re adequately spaced from other tables. The food was uniformly very good. The room, even with reduced patronage, tends to be loud.
Date night! This place was lovely and the staff great. I sent my plate back because I didn’t understand how they prepared boneless half chicken when a half of chicken is normally 4 pieces. The chef came out to explain how they remove the bones and keep the chicken attached. I was grateful for the explanation. The chicken was amazing! Moose and flavorful! Will be back.
This was my second time going. Both times the food was amazing!! I love their brussel sprouts! The cucumber mint martini was one of the best drinks I’ve ever had. They also have this cookie and ice cream desert that I’m going back to get today! So happy I stumbled across this place!!
A favorite local french place we like to go. Only issue is the service can be a little slow and not spaced out. For example we ordered, received and finished our appetizer before getting our first drink on this occassion.
Awesome food, portions just right
GREAT Social Distance protocols in place
The Little Gem has been our local favorite for a while, and we continued to enjoy great carry-out service from here once COVID-19 hit. Today was our first time dining in public since March, and we couldn’t have felt in better hands. Top notch protocols and sanitary standards with no compromise to the menu. Highly recommended, again!
Sat on patio with ample social distance. The staff was friendly , server Monica a was great and food was delicious. The dinner for 2 was perfect and I’m still talking about the flourless chocolate cake one week later!
Tried their new cocktail, Moonlight, I think. Delicious, refreshing, not too sweet. Nice work Kurt! Beet salad was outstanding. Filet was good. Staff were friendly and accommodating. A very nice evening. I’ll be back.
Great little neighborhood place! Food is always good, service is very good
Excellent service and very accommodating
Inside dining surprisingly empty, perhaps given to early time or people’s concern about the virus constrictions .Our reservation was graciously moved up when our out of state guest arrived early.Additional carry out meal of soup and mussel linguini arrived home hot and tasty.
Hardest part was deciding what to choose off the menu, everything looked so good. And then you see them bring dishes to the tables next to you and you go ooooo, what's that. We had the vegetable risotto and the stuffed pork chop. Both were delicious
Food was delicious but took quite a long time, especially considering the fact that restaurant was not at all crowded. My husband’s pork chop was missing the cheese it was supposed to be stuffed with, but to be fair the waitress did give him a new meal free of charge. We finished and said no to dessert, then sat there another twenty minutes before she though to ask if we wanted the check. This was after it took us nearly an hour to get our entrees. I might go back because the short ribs really were delicious, but I only if I wasn’t in a hurry.
Delicious food, good wait staff, but pricey (Get to 50char limit)
This is our third time at this restaurant. We were there a couple of times shortly after it had changed ownership (previously was Marion Street Grill) then not for a couple of years. Our first experience was good; food was good, server was quirky but attentive, ambiance was okay though I preferred the decor of the previous establishment. It had always been a very warm inviting room but new owner had chosen a cooler pastel color palette that didn't go well with the exposed brick and copper ceiling. Our second trip there was not as good; food wasn't as good, same quirky waiter with all the same patter. Hence the reason we hadn't been there for a couple of years. But we were out to celebrate a birthday and were looking for a change from our usual Oak Park spots. First, we had made reservations but were seated right next to the hostess station with a little separator partition. The table was 2 two-tops pushed together, which would have been okay except one table was a good half-inch shorter than the other. What made it worse is that the music for the restaurant is supplied from a boom box sitting by the hostess station. The volume might be fine across the room but sitting right next to it it was way too loud. We had to ask twice for them to turn it down. And again, we had made reservations and at the time we booked the restaurant was wide open. This particular location should be left for walk-ins. Then the waitress was pretty inattentive, and the staff overall just seemed kind of badly trained. The bus boy kept serving the wrong plates to the wrong people. They had given us 3 setups for a table of four and it took 45 minutes before they corrected that. I ordered a martini and it sat warming at the bar for a good 110 minutes before my wife walked over and got it. The stemware is industrial grade. Just so many details they got wrong at this price point it should be better. The food was very good but the overall experience was not satisfactory.
LOVE the risotto (veggie and seafood!) and the fig/brie appetizer was also excellent. This was my third time here. I will surely be a repeat customer and recommend to all my friends.
It took us over 2 hours to have lunch. I finally had to walk up to the bar to ask for the check so we could leave. And to top it all off, we were there celebrating my birthday, and though I had very specifically stated that I was medically gluten free, my food arrived with two pieces of today plopped on top. They remade it for me, but by the time I got my food most of the rest at the table was finished eating. And then, they didn’t even offer to give a discount for messing that up. I won’t be going back.
Overall the dining experience was fine, not great, not bad. Drinks were OK, appetizers were OK, dinner was OK. We were expecting a lot more and really wanted to like everything but it was not rave worthy. Server was rushing us through every part of our meal. Fig & Brie app was very average and could use a bit of work for the price.
