Steeped in history, The Lion dates back about 500 years, and was built when King Charles I was on the British throne and even before the famous Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Originally constructed as a house, for centuries the quirky building has been welcoming visitors as a traditional British pub. With its low ceilings, exposed beams and homely inglenook fireplaces, it has all the charm of what you expect from a historic pub and restaurant. Listed as one of the Britain’s most important buildings, this is a slice of history set right in the heart of the Somerset countryside in a popular English village. The characterful and homely rooms offer a comfortable stay for those wanting to holiday or spend a night or two in this stunning part of the UK.

We’re also dog lovers, so your well behaved pooches will get a warm welcome.

    Slightly disappointed overall with the quality of the food and speed of service. I have emailed The Lion already, but not received a response.

    We read a few reviews before booking, which seemed good - they were not wrong. The location, service and food were all excellent. We will be back.

    Highly recommend The Lion. The food is absolutely amazing. The staff are welcoming, efficient and very attentive. The atmosphere of the place is relaxing and very friendly. I can’t recommend this place more.

    We had a lovely meal,the food was delicious and the service provided by all the staff we met was excellent. Would definitely recommend.

    Our first visit. Friday night so we booked to ensure we could get a table. Lovely old pub with lots of character. Greeted warmly and shown to our table promptly. Nice menu from which the husband chose fish and chips and I chose the cod. Both were very well presented and very tasty. I felt my piece of cod was on the small side. However, it was very tasty. We would certainly go back.
