Steeped in history, The Lion dates back about 500 years, and was built when King Charles I was on the British throne and even before the famous Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Originally constructed as a house, for centuries the quirky building has been welcoming visitors as a traditional British pub. With its low ceilings, exposed beams and homely inglenook fireplaces, it has all the charm of what you expect from a historic pub and restaurant. Listed as one of the Britain’s most important buildings, this is a slice of history set right in the heart of the Somerset countryside in a popular English village. Highly recommend The Lion. The food is absolutely amazing. The staff are welcoming, efficient and very attentive. The atmosphere of the place is relaxing and very friendly. I can’t recommend this place more.

Our first visit. Friday night so we booked to ensure we could get a table. Lovely old pub with lots of character. Greeted warmly and shown to our table promptly. Nice menu from which the husband chose fish and chips and I chose the cod. Both were very well presented and very tasty. I felt my piece of cod was on the small side. However, it was very tasty. We would certainly go back.
