   We had lunch at the Lion recently and the food was very nice. The service was prompt and the staff very friendly. The pub has a very nice warm welcoming feel to it.

    Had a lovely meal. The scallops were so good. The service is excellent as usual and had a very enjoyable evening. Will be booking for the steak night on a Tuesday now.

    Went with elderly relatives, one of whom had mobility difficulties. Staff were extremely helpful in getting us seated and were attentive and friendly throughout the whole visit. The food was excellent, good sized portions without being overwhelming and very flavourful. The two steaks we had were delicious and very tender and cooked as requested. The fish pie was tasty and had plenty of fish in ( sometimes fish pies are more potato than fish!) and the ham and eggs were very good quality. The chips are absolutely wonderful…we will definitely be returning

    We enjoyed our stay. The staff were friendly and the service was great. The only thing we would say is our steak was overcooked to what we asked for. But as it was so soft and tasty, we were happy to accept. We would definitely stay there again

    We dined here on Saturday 11th march, we had very prompt service, the food was served piping hot and was plentiful and superbly cooked. The staff was very attentive throughout and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening.

    Orginal booking was for the restaurant we were seated in the bar area. Personally I find sitting in a public bar area very noisy and quite impersonal.Food was lovely but very limited options for vegetarians.

    Always such a happy/vibrant place to eat: I don’t mean loud and vibrant, just they always get the atmosphere just right at The Lion. The food is outstandingly good value and we always feel a bit spoilt when we walk away because of the level service and the thought that has gone into creating the dishes. It’s like going on a mini break away from ones routine. I would say that’s relevant year round 🌸💜

    I had asked for a table in the bar rather than the restaurant and we were in fact placed in a nice table by the window in the bar which was brilliant. We noticed that it was very busy on this particular lunch time, both in the bar and in the restaurant, but that a number of table’s appeared to be waiting for their food. It seemed that there were a small number of staff to deal with all the customers there at the time. We waited a considerable amount of time for our orders to be taken, and then quite a while more for the food to come. However, when it did come it was well presented, tasty and good value, so there is no issue with the food at all. The staff were all very pleasant but it did appear that they were a bit overwhelmed by the numbers, which is no fault of theirs, but did lead to delays in service. Overall it was a very pleasant lunch just slightly marred by slow service.

    Excellent lunch and very good value. Two hungry teenagers left well satisfied, as did their mother and grandfather. Spotless bar and table, the food arrived quickly and was very well presented, the steak sandwiches just as we like them, rare and juicy. Charming bar staff.

    Brilliant building, atmosphere, food and staff. Didn’t have to wait long in between courses and the food was cooked to a very high standard. The only small downside being we went quite a while without a drink during our main course and when I tried to order a drink on the menu the young lad said they didn’t do it. Only to see it in the fridge in the bar. Overall a top venue. Definitely be back

    When we arrived we were told that our table was in a different part of the building, which did not impress us at all as we expected to be in the main bar. When we eventually was shown to our table the atmosphere was so dead quiet as there were only two other tables in the building. There was no back ground music or anything so it felt like my wife and I had to whisper as not to disturb the other diners. Once we had our order taken it felt like we were left alone as the waiters went back to the main building. As we drew to the coffee stage of the procedings we waited a good 10 mins until a waitress appeared and I had to ask them about still waiting for the coffee, she apolozed and went back to the main building where upon I heard that they had just switched on the coffee machine. We decided to forget about the coffee and asked for the bill this took them a while to sort out. Meanwhile I swear that I could not hear any diners in the main part of the hotel. We thought that it spolit the whole day for us.

    As usual this is a really lovely place to eat, food and service great. We ate in the bar for Valentines evening, casual and spacious. Set meal for £40 with cocktail on arrival. Menu when we arrived was slightly different to one on the website which was a little disappointing as we would have preferred choice on the menu online (personal choice) We’ll be back though, it’s becoming a lovely habit!

    As usual, the lion served a fantastic meal, the service from the staff was great without being rushed. The atmosphere was relaxed and calming. It is great to know that when you go out to dine there that there is never any faults.

    The meal overall was very tasty and well presented but I think the beef was a little overcooked. Unfortunately our dessert order was a little muddled and my partner didn’t get a drink that she requested. The staff were very polite and helpful but felt that the service was a little slow. We will probably return in the better weather to take advantage of the riverside setting.
