The Lexington is more than a restaurant, it’s an institution. Located on the corner of Lexington Parkway and Grand Avenue, this St. Paul community was the most fashionable at the turn of the 19th century. The St. Paul elite lived just blocks away and the first electric trolley brought visitors up and down Grand Avenue. The Lexington opened in 1935, after the end of prohibition, and was a popular neighborhood bar to gather and socialize. Previously operating as a speakeasy, the expansive wood panels were perfect for hiding a little booze and one can only imagine the shenanigans going on beyond the hidden staircase behind the coat check. For decades following, The Lex, as it’s called by locals and enthusiasts alike, was the place to be seen; business dealings, cocktail hours, and milestone celebrations were a regular occurrence for St. Paul socialites.

Heidi was the best
All the kitchen staff overwhelmingly
Our food was ok, for the price I expected great food.
We went for Restaurant Week and were blown away! Food was amazing!
The restaurant was quite busy but we fell safe at ay time.
Great food and service! The Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc was fantastic with our meal!
The Porc chop to die for!
I liked going here before COVID and love it even more. It was a more enjoyable experience to have not as many people to navigate around or talk over.
Disappointing. Soup was barely lukewarm. Steak arrived with a sauce on it that the menu didn’t mention. Apples in apple crisp weren’t fully cooked. Service was decent, a little slow, but not the servers fault that the kitchen has issues. Really no excuse for a restaurant that charges as much as this one. Definitely won’t be back.
Fall 2020 restaurant week - $35 prix fix menu. It was a lovely experience from start to finish. We were seated right next to the fireplace. It wasn’t lit, but there were a lot of glass candle holders with real, lit candles flickering. This, with the wood paneling and white table cloths created a beautiful ambience. Our before dinner drinks, a Belvedere Gin Dirty martini & Knob Creek Manhattan were on point & there wasn’t any rush to order, etc. The drinks, food, every person we encountered were excellent. My ONLY complaint is that my food, potato soup and then the Steak Diane were only warm. I would have preferred both a bit hotter - still delicious! For dessert, we shared the flourless chocolate cake and the carrot cake - divine and the perfect end to a beautiful evening! We’ll definitely be back!
The Lexington is a very cool restaurant with 3 main dining rooms. We were there for restaurant week and had a great time with wonderful drinks, great food and service. We will be back soon!!!!
Ordered a steak medium, it was brought to the table RARE and still cold
My husband and I had our first experience at the Lexington, and they didn’t disappoint! Great drinks, great food, and great service! We will definitely be back!’
It was a great dining experience. The food was cooked to perfection!
The entrees were tastefully plated and prepared to perfection. The perfect place for date night or even if you want to be pampered.
Excellent food and service! ;)
Friday October 16th. Been going to The Lex for 30+ years. My wife and I routinely dine out 3+ nights per week. The atmosphere and low, light music was great. We sat at a table in the bar area and were routinely ignored by the staff. After our first drink, we didn’t see our server again. No mix up, this guy is just horrible at his job. Had to routinely ask the Hostess and Mgr. to find our server who was then miffed?? His attitude was poor at best after that. To punish us our food didn’t come out for 40 minutes and it was cold. So, when the bill came we tipped him ZERO! First time we’ve EVER stiffed a server. One apology and ANY gesture of kindness would have been gone a long way to making things right. This is sad really, in a pandemic, the Lex is putting its worst foot forward. We’re done paying their high prices for less than acceptable courtesy, food and service. There are other places to eat in St.Paul. Do yourselves a favor and try something besides the Lex.
I love the Lexington! Alex was a fabulous bar tender and a great waiter! We will return.
Great date night place to be low-key fancy. Awesome drinks. Good food.
Great Food and a Great Venue.
Start with a drink on the rooftop bar, and then have dinner down in the main dining room, you will not be disappointed!
We take our son to the Lex for his birthday every year. Excellent martinis!
Love the Lex. Felt very safe with good table spacing, all staff in masks, etc.
The filet mignon is the best steak I've had this year, awesome!
We are in the process of moving out of state and wanted one last dinner at the Lexington and it was a good decision.
Will miss you
Everything was simply amazing. The food was incredible - we had walleye cakes, loaded potato soup and steak skewers. The drinks were also amazing - the moscow mule was so delicious! 10/10 - hope they make it through the pandemic!
Nice restaurant. Good but not great food. Great service from our waitress.
Wonderful as always. Love the medium rare salmon. Please bring back chocolate mousse
The kind of place you can bring guests from out of town and not have to worry about a thing. This was my second time to The Lexington - both experiences were stellar. I knew ahead the meat selection and preparation was second to none, but what did surprise me was the high dessert quality. In general, I’m not impressed with pastry chefs - either too simple or too flamboyant - the carrot cake and flourless chocolate cake were both unique and amazing.
Fantastic venue, food and drinks. Don't skip the chocolate cake for dessert
Anniversary celebration on the rooftop patio. Wonderful experience. Great drink and food but very expensive. Fun background music. Looking forward to going back again. Hope they keep the rooftop top with warmers this winter and maybe some hot drinks. Love to outdoor options!
The service and food was really good! We ordered off of the Fall Special menu and received the 3-course meals for $40. This was a very good value and portion sizes were larger than expected.
Beautiful rooftop patio! Great wine selection! Awesome pre-fix dinner menu 😍
All was just ok not great and very dark inside
Seated on time. Service was top notch. Food was incredible including the carrot cake. Highly recommend.
We had a fabulous time. It was our first visit to the Lexington and it was well-worth it. The staff were attentive without being invasive. The food was scrumptious. We started with the hot brussel sprouts. One order is plenty for two people. My husband had the kabobs and I had the savory pot pie. We had no room for dessert. Oh and yes the cocktails were perfect.
Wait for food was quite long...which is fine...but food was cold when arrived. Food tasted OK but was cold which is unacceptable and it took the server so long to come back that we just ate it and moved on. $160 for the meal...ill just eat-at home from now in!
The food was outstanding and the service superb!
Lovely place! Beautifully remodeled but kept the charm.
The food was amazing, best salmon I’ve ever had. Me and my wife loved everything, ambience, the background music. Definitely have to visit again the next time we’re in St. Paul!
Second time there and the food was amazing! Their menu changes each session so always something new.
Menu was limited to upscale bar food which is not what we are looking for when we go to the Lexington...and our favorites on the menu were removed. What we ordered was fine but uninspired.
Anniversary dinner and the entire staff made us feel very special on our special day. Even gave us a photo for a remembrance. Nice gesture.
Great experience on the roof top deck!
Love the restaurant, and love the roof top during this time of year and dealing with COVID. A touch more casual that the dining rooms, but that's what makes it so great.
Separate exterior stairwell entry in the back, so you can avoid going through the lower level of the restaurant if you want.
Perfect place to feel safe and have a great meal. Definitely will come back to the patio again.
