Owen, our server, was fantastic!
Wonderful time, will come back
Fine food and great service.
classic st. paul charm Great waiters
I have enjoyed dinning at the Lex for over fifty years! It is a very special place!
Much has been written about the magical transformation of “The Lex” including great food and wonderful ambiance. As a long-time customer I was intrigued. Regardless of the changes I didn’t find a reason to go back. Not that it wasn’t fine, but it doesn’t match the hype. Many local choices with more creative menus at lower prices.
It's so nice to see an old standard brought current, keeping the elegance and class while updating it at the same time. The food was excellent (steak tartare and beet salad for me) and very nicely presented. I'd love to make this a regular stop, but I don't live in the Cities any more so will have to be content with one or two visits a year.
We booked a table for our anniversary (51st!). I mentioned the significance of the occasion, when I made the reservation. When we arrived, we were greeted with a friendly "Happy Anniversary" by the front desk. A similar greeting from our server. Sitting down, we were given menus that had a "Happy Anniversary" greeting printed right under The Lexington header. We ordered two excellent drinks before a great seafood appetizer. We ordered two of the evening specials and neither of us was disappointed. Fabulous! Followed by a complementary dish of locally made ice cream (with sprinkles). What a wonderful return to the place where we had our groom's dinner fifty one years earlier. We felt a strong "welcome back" that night.
Excellent dinner for my husband’s birthday.
My husband and I recently went to the Lexington to celebrate our anniversary. We hadn't been for many years - it was our "fancy date night" place when we were dating and first married. The menu back then was more the traditional supper club type. The menu is very eclectic but we found several things we liked and stretched our taste buds a bit. The service was outstanding and everyone greeted us and were attentive to meeting the customers needs. The food presentation was also excellent. Would definitely recommend for celebrating a special occasion.
I ordered salmon oscar, and it was extremely salty. The server offered to take it back and do up a new one, but I was half-way through it and declined. For the price you pay I would think that the food would be of the utmost quality, but this was not the case.
Excellent service and food. We were seated in the cook’s dining room and could carry on a conversation without shouting. A great bonus! I expected an outrageous check and was not disappointed.
Service was fantastic (a personalized menu for our event was a definite plus!), food was outstanding. Prices were a bit on the higher end (percentage surcharge should not have been necessary) and we made the mistake of the table nearest the kitchen door, but overall a decent dining experience.
The Lex continues to be a family favorite. It is always on our list for special occasions, or for a nice nite out.
We loved our birthday celebration at the Lex. It will be our new “go to” place for special occasions. We’ve dined at many of the area steak houses and the Lex’s food and service was a notch above. First and most importantly, our steaks were cooked perfectly to our preferred medium rare. I ordered one of the steak specials which was a sliced sirloin over a chili with black beans, diced sweet potato and a house-made steak sauce with a little spice. I loved it. It was a unique preparation. My husband and son loved every bite of their porcini-crusted tenderloin. The salads had fresh, light, house- made dressings. The asparagus had a delicious herb salsa verde and the fingerling potatoes flavor was elevated by the addition of schmaltz. ( I had to ask-it’s crispy chicken skin. Try them!) Our server was friendly, attentive, and really knew the menu. We were in the room that had the window view of the kitchen, which we enjoyed. There are other dining spaces, the bar and a roof top patio that I’d like to check out. The Lex has special memories for me. It’s where my family met my husband of 35 years back in the day! I’m so happy to have a special place to dine that has a great atmosphere, service and menu. I want to go back and try the duck meatballs. Thank you for an exceptional experience!
Our server was phenomenal and the food was amazing - another great experience!
The food, the service and the ambiance were excellent. we were close to the bar and the noise level was horrendous.. will return but at a different table.
Celebrated a Birthday here with 9 people. Seated in the Chefs dining room where we could see the kitchen and the chef preparing meals. Our waiter Rick was extremely attentive and knowledgeable of the food and menu and gave us great tips on what to order. The food was outstanding, we had many different items but especially liked the steak Diane.
Food delicious, waiter 👍🏻, proportions generous!
We ate in the bar in lieu of the dining room and had a very good time. The drinks and food were delicious, the atmosphere was comfortable and inviting, and the service was prompt, friendly and helpful. I’d gladly go back.
OVERPRICED FOR THE VALUE. SAME FOOD AT APPLE BEES AND RUBY TUESDAY TASTED BETTER AND NOT SO EXPENSIVE
It was ok. we went specifically for the beef rib. the sauce of the beef rib was good and the slaw was great. but it was a tad too smokey for me. And they were out of the mashed potatoes, so we had to get the fingerling potatoes. Whatever the "crunchy" things were on top tasted bad. really bad. Like stale almonds bad. I would say this was mediocre, especially for the price point.
We celebrated a graduation and two birthdays at the very landmark that we had grown up coming too! Thank you for investing in the restoration and giving us an opportunity to share the tradition with the next generation!
Our server was top-notch. Personable, pleasant, funny, yet very professional!
Friends in from out of town and wanted them to know the Lex. Started st the patio where they thoroughly enjoyed the drinks they ordered—comments were that the bartenders mixed a good/strong drink.
Thoroughly enjoyed dinner from Lexington salad, cold apple soup to lobster d’avilo (sp?)
We had a reservation but were seated in the bar. It was too noisy. We had a guest with a hearing impairment and they weren't able to hear any of the conversation.
We had a great time last night at The Lexington. My wife and I were celebrating our first wedding anniversary and had been interested in going to The Lexington for some time. Our waitress, Shannon, was very attentive and pleasant. She was able to help guide my wife on what to pick with having a selective diet. The food and drinks were all amazing. The summer cocktail list was fun and delicious. Ambience was very romantic and we were glad we chose The Lexington to enjoy our special evening. There were only two complaints, reach didn't ruin the evening but should still be addressed. First, I was a little disappointed that nothing special was done for our anniversary. I wasn't expecting anyone to bend over backwards for us, but no one even acknowledged nor asked. Second, we had a 7:30pm reservation and showed up about 15 minutes early. When we approached the hostess to let her know we were there a little early she was very rude in saying she would check us in but they will not be able to seat us right now. The rudeness was in how short and blunt she was. She could have easily taken another 10 seconds to let us know where we could wait or let us know that we could go to the bar and get a drink while we wait. And finally, when 7:30 did come around I had to reapproach her and ask to be seated rather than her coming to get us when were in her line of sight that entire 15 mins. Very disappointing as the hostess is the initial welcoming face of the restaurant, and this face was very rude and unwelcoming. However, once we were seated the night was very pleasant and we left very happy.
Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Salad was in Unedible. Way too much vinegar. Didn’t eat it. Steak Diane was not best quality meat . Free dessert of ice cream in expensive restaurant? Expect better if I was to return.
great service. excellent food. tablecloths would have been nice
Ambiance was very nice, but if for whatever reason you need cheaters to read that small print, you had better bring them. All the staff was beyond nice. Ask about the size of the sides before ordering. We found some portions seemed meant to share for the table and some were more meant for the individual. We will return more well informed.
Food was creative and delicious, the surroundings warm and lovely, and service from Owen was top-notch. Would return any time, especially for a special occasion. Telling our friends too!
Rick made our evening an experience! The food was delicious and presented beautifully.
Fantastic experience. The long rib was phenomenal! We will be back!
Waiter was great Rick
Food is good...service was great...had good time
My husband and I wanted to go to brunch to celebrate our anniversary, so we chose The Lexington because neither of us had ever been there and the menu looked delicious and not ridiculously expensive. Our server was extremely attentive and friendly and very knowledgeable. Everything we ordered was amazingly delicious. We felt the prices were not outrageous, especially for the quality of the food and service. We will definitely be back! That was by far the best food I've had in a very long time.
Overall we had a great time trying the Lexington. The food was very good!
Our server, Owen, did an excellent job. The noise level was high (we sat in the back near the windows to the kitchen). My wife's salmon was "soft bordering mushy". I ordered the bone-in special of the night for $52 or $54. I was served a filet, which I began to eat, until I commented to the server and he took the filet and eventually brought the bone-in thing, which I thought was immensely overpriced for the amount of edible meat (not counting fat, which I don't eat). I had two Tanqueray martinis, which came to $30. A disappointing dining experienced compared to the old Lexington, and we will not go there again.

This is a special event place. The steaks are delicious, the service was impeccable, and the staff accommodated us being shockingly early for our dinner reservation. I'm not often in St. Paul, but the next time I'm here I definitely want a reprise of this excellent dinner.
Hi SeanM, thank you for the five-stars! Hopefully not too much time passes before you are in St. Paul again. Cheers!
Food and service were fantastic, but the noise level was high but not more than most restaurants.
