The Lexington is more than a restaurant, it’s an institution. Located on the corner of Lexington Parkway and Grand Avenue, this St. Paul community was the most fashionable at the turn of the 19th century. The St. Paul elite lived just blocks away and the first electric trolley brought visitors up and down Grand Avenue. The Lexington opened in 1935, after the end of prohibition, and was a popular neighborhood bar to gather and socialize. Previously operating as a speakeasy, the expansive wood panels were perfect for hiding a little booze and one can only imagine the shenanigans going on beyond the hidden staircase behind the coat check. For decades following, The Lex, as it’s called by locals and enthusiasts alike, was the place to be seen; business dealings, cocktail hours, and milestone celebrations were a regular occurrence for St. Paul socialites.

We were celebrating a birthday with a special date night and could not have picked a more perfect venue. Our server, Rachael was incredibly attentive and genuine. The food was fantastic (cannot recommend the lobster/cauliflower/cheese appetizer highly enough), but it was the service that made the experience stand out. Top it off with live jazz, and wow! May become a regular tradition based on our stellar experience tonight!

We had a great birthday dinner here. Staff was very kind and attentive without being overbearing. We sat in the room with the view of the kitchen and really enjoyed the atmosphere there. The food was excellent. The staff took our photo and then gave us a print to take home with us wich was a nice touch. I will definitely be back and recommend it to folks looking to enjoy an upscale intimate dining experience

Our waitress, McKenzie, was incredible. We are frequent visitors of the Lexington and have had many great experiences with the staff here. They always keep us coming back!! Will always recommend to a friend looking for a great steak and an even better atmosphere.

We went for my husband's birthday and they did a lovely job of noting it when we checked in, sat down, and all the way through dinner. They even took a picture and printed it out for us. The waitress was very friendly, and the service was perfect. We never felt rushed, either. Very much appreciated that she stayed to chat for a moment with my husband. His steak was perfect. Beet appetizer was perfect to share. Gnocci is very good-though rich (again, plenty large to share). The tenderloin tips were good but honestly might have been better out of the sauce, which was heavy and obscured the flavor of the meat. Chocolate cake was insanely good (and huge-enough for 3 people). No idea what took us so long to get here, but it won't be the last time.

We arrived with a very elderly Mother with us for dinner, table of 6. Asked to be moved to the back for noise level from the front door. They were just wonderful and accommodated us beautifully. The service was great and very professional. Food was also great and we never felt hurried.

We had a delicious dinner at the Lexington. The waitress was attentive and gave great suggestions. She checked in often. I liked my number 9 old fashioned! We enjoyed the Ahi tuna and onion ring appetizers. The pot pie was delicious and had a smokey flavor. My wife loved her steak and thought her mashed potatoes were the best. We finished the meal with grasshopper pie and crème brûlée. It was all really really good. We highly recommend this place!

My wife and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. Phillip was our waiter, and was very knowledgeable about the menu as well as the history of The Lexington. The dining experience was top-notch, and we'll be back to The Lexington to share more special occasions.

We took our 13 year old nephew out for a special birthday dinner and our server was just amazing and took such good care of us. The Lexington main dinning room was intimate-great for enjoying company and conversation. The waitress suggested several items on the menu which were really fantastic. The steaks and the side servings were large and were delicious. It is a restaurant where I bring other dinners for a great meal!

Service was excellent. A very thoughtful and attentive waitstaff. Our waiter was the best part of the evening! All of the steaks ordered were medium rare to rare when medium was requested. The lobster spaghetti was very good. The sauce for the steak Diane was curdled and oddly sweet. Walleye cakes were mostly breading. Lobster cauliflower cheese dip was over cooked and the crostini served with it was under crisped. Salads were fine. We were expecting closer to perfection, given the price and reputation. Not bad exactly, but not great either.

The only thing that we didn’t like were the crab wontons. No crab flavor and the sauce was not very good. The steak tartare was the best I’ve had. Great time!

We had the halibut, scallops, green beans, beets and a baked potato. All good. Wine was great. Service was outstanding.
