The Lexington is more than a restaurant, it’s an institution. Located on the corner of Lexington Parkway and Grand Avenue, this St. Paul community was the most fashionable at the turn of the 19th century. The St. Paul elite lived just blocks away and the first electric trolley brought visitors up and down Grand Avenue. The Lexington opened in 1935, after the end of prohibition, and was a popular neighborhood bar to gather and socialize. Previously operating as a speakeasy, the expansive wood panels were perfect for hiding a little booze and one can only imagine the shenanigans going on beyond the hidden staircase behind the coat check. For decades following, The Lex, as it’s called by locals and enthusiasts alike, was the place to be seen; business dealings, cocktail hours, and milestone celebrations were a regular occurrence for St. Paul socialites.

Six of us in our group. Everything was wonderful except my dinner. Don’t get the lobster roll -I got it and there was hardly any lobster in it. Maybe 1/4 cup. So weird.
Everyone else loved their dinners - my husband shared his halibut dinner with me, which was delicious.
My Manhattan cocktail was fabulous.
We were greeted by a friendly host who actually read our reservation and asked about the birthday celebration.
We were not pressured to choose our order as it took a bit to navigate the menu. Our waitron was helpful, humorous, patient, informative and attentive without being pushy. The food was amazing, cooked exactly to order. The same friendly host came back and took a birthday photo! While we won't do this weekly because of cost ( we'll deserved) , we will keep this as a special event restaurant!
Expensive. Very expensive. Not a lot of food for your money, but very exquisite tastes.
Excellent dining experience and the food was delicious!
Anniversary. Grace and Joe were amazing. Loved the experience. A little pricey for the quality of the beef but everything was truly wonderful for an evening experience.
We had a wonderful time out for the first time since lockdown! We loved the ambiance and the food was exceptional!
My wife and I enjoyed our 30th wedding anniversary at the Lexington. The service, the food, and the ambiance is second to no other place. This wasn’t our first visit there and we will definitely be going back. Wonderful evening filled with great memories.
food was very tasty ans very expensive relative to other finer restaurants. Service very good.
I asked for medium rare but my steak was very rare and had to be sent back. Otherwise food was good
The Lexington never disappoints. We sat in the bar area which is always such a fun atmosphere. Their food and service is always impeccable. Our server made great recommendations and we had an incredible date night.
Everything was great, except being seated by a large somewhat noisy table,
it was okay, the food was pretty disappointing in my opinion. i ordered a rare ribeye for $55 and it was way over seasoned and the cut was not that great. the restaurants pretty nice but for what they’re charging the quality just is not there in my opinion.
The food was delicious. Warm bread, for starters, is always very nice. We shared a salad, which was plenty for each of us.
Was seated in the bar area- would have preferred the dining room. Just do not like a TV on while eating.
I was confused about having to confirm reservation not only via the internet, but also by phone. Was this because of Easter?
My brother and I plan to return.
We went for Easter. They had a special Easter menu as well as the standard menu. From the moment we walked in until we walked out. Every staff member made us feel welcome and wanted. I had the steak Diane and as always it was perfect. My hubby had the ham off the special menu. It was spectacular!! He was happy to share as the portion was large. We love The Lex and can’t wait to go back again.
A bit expensive for what you get. Vegetarian choices were very limited.
Service was TERRIFIC. Especially during these really difficult times.
Great food, drinks, service and hostess! We had a fun, enjoyable time and barely noticed as the servers managed our food and drinks. It was the best!
Our first, more formal dining experience in the Covid world was a treat both from a pure dining experience, and ambience as well. While the menu was not extensive, the choices were varied and interesting.
The experience was great, the only issue we had was where our table was. All traffic to the kitchen went by me on my left and all traffic to the bar and restrooms went by me on the right! A lot of traffic.
Outstanding Food! Service was just a tad off but not by much. Very respectful of Covid protocols.
We were bummed they were out of the pot pie but everything we did have was amazing! And we had such good service. They recognized a birthday at our table!
I love this place. The food and the service was spot on. This is my favorite place to take my family for a special treat a couple times a year.
Amazing staff and food! Everyone was very friendly and accommodating! Hughly recommend!
Outstanding Steak Diane, service and ambience. Spendy, but worth it.
Lovely to eat there, but expensive. $40 for a side salad, fries and a beer!
Great service and food.
We went to the Lex for a birthday dinner and the experience was perfect! The food was superb. We made a couple odd requests which they executed with gusto (ex. Requesting to split the chicken sandwich 4 ways as an appetizer, which they cut for us and served as sliders). Grace was the perfect server, very attentive and wonderful. And again, our meal was perfect. The halibut special was the best dish I have had in a very long time. Highly recommend getting a steak a la Oscar. It’s worth it. The creme brûlée was a perfect finish.
The corn beef and cabbage was absolutely the worst I’ve ever had for both me and my wife very very disappointed
We went for our anniversary and the hostess acknowledged it, but our server did not. I don’t know if they normally do or don’t, as it was the only time we went for a special occasion.
We went about 3 years ago and I waited anxiously to go back because I LOVED the Salmon Oscar. Unfortunately, after such a long, anticipated wait, it wasn’t as good as the first time I had it. They seemed to change the recipe and the king crab wasn’t as simple as before. It was lost in whatever they mixed in with it and I just tasted a couple of small bites of King Crab. The asparagus wasn’t cooked enough so I could only eat about a third of it. The salmon was cooked perfectly, so that was the saving grace. My husband ordered ribeye and it was average. The ambiance is great, but for the price, I don’t think we will be back, as the food just wasn’t as good as the first time we went.
2 screaming women on tables either side of us. More of a bar atmosphere-food was amazing.
Try the Sirloin Tip Sandwich. Best ever. My wife's steak was jut OK to me, but she really liked it.
I've been here before and had a great experience, however, this time, we weren't as impressed. The soup as a starter was fantastic, but our steaks were a little tough and our server was less than attentive. It was tough to get a drink from her and we were left waiting without a wine list and then it took a long time for her to return to get our order.
Bartender and drinks there were awesome though, and so were those fries! I'd come back, but maybe just to the bar for cocktails and apps.
Great venue, with a old school vibe. Service was exceptional and food was great if not entirely original. Definitely recommend as a business dinner or steak house night.
The food is excellent. The staff is very attentive and welcoming. It's a great place for a special date or anniversary.
Great Service and Great food! Very sanitary, friendly atmosphere!
We have enjoyed visiting The Lexington often in the past few years. My wife and I have not been disappointed with any of our dinners. The ambiance is perfect for a couple or small gatherings.
Great service and good food. Had the group Tenderloin the table. Said it served 4. Could have served 6!! Mashed potatoes were great!
The Lexington is an institution in St. Paul, and it did not disappoint! We had excellent and attentive service, thank you Grace, and our steaks were done to perfection! The sconny old fashioned was spot on too! Thank you for the perfect anniversary dinner!!!
It was not worth $400 dinner, would have rather spent it at 801 Club or at Fogo de Chao
I would say pricey. My husband and another one of our group had the pot pie, both not impressed at all.
Our waitress Grace was amazing and just lovely!
