The keep the standard of food and service very high. And we love having Daniel as our waiter!
We went there for an anniversary dinner and loved it! Exceptional all around!
We were celebrating my mother’s 101st birthday. Imagine our surprise when we received our menus that had “Happy 101st birthday” printed on them! Server was knowledgeable and especially helpful to my mother. Food outstanding! Excellent experience.
This was our first visit since the remodel. The food, service and ambiance were quite nice. The menu offerings included classic supper club fare but also included some wonderful unique items as well. The french onion soup was the best I have ever eaten and instead of nothing but steak, steak, steak there was Pork and other options. I not only would but have already recommended the Lexington to friends. My wife and I almost went back the very next night.
It was great
What a surprise! New owner/chef! Great menu! Rick took excellent care of us! Our new favorite place!
The Lexington is a nice, old style restaurant with a calming ambience . The lights are low, the music is familiar and the staff are nice. I would recommend the Lexington to anyone looking for a place for a date. It's not cheap but worth it. Be prepared to walk a block or two when parking because the parking behind the restaurant is usually full, however, there are places designated for the restaurant around the block. We went before a concert and they were very respectful of our time and when we had to leave. Overall the experience was nice.
Pre concert double date
Great dining experience with excellent food and service. While they remembered we were celebrating our 42nd anniversary, they did not offer any surprise complimentary beverage or dessert. I spend nearly $300 on the meal, so thought they would want to do something to make it even more special.
We were rather disappointed in The Lexington after the great reviews we have read. The Lexington salad was great, but the rest was not. The steak was just okay and the market fish marginal. You have to love garlic to eat here as there is a lot of garlic in the bread and the frites. The evening was made enjoyable, however, by our fabulous server.
If I could give The Lex six stars, I would. We took my husband's parents there to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. We noted in OpenTable that we would appreciate it if The Lex would acknowledge the big event, especially because they had their first date at The Lex. The Lex bent over backwards! They printed special menus that said Happy 60th Anniversary at the top, the manager came to wish them happy anniversary, they took a picture and put it in a card frame for them to take home with them, the chef came out personally and served a complimentary baked Alaska...Really we couldn't have asked for more. And the food was absolutely outstanding. My father-in-law is very picky about his steak and when he took his first bite he said it was perfect. We all ordered something different and each of us loved what we had. It was a great evening with great food and great service. Highly recommend.
Haven't been to the LEX in some time and was favorably impressed with the professional service and everyone in my party thought the food was good.
Honestly, I was very disappointed. Our server was rude, we felt rushed all night and I ordered steak medium and it came rare. My dates fish (the special) was overdone. Desert was great and before we were sat we went to the bar and the bartender was awesome!! Our server could learn a few things from her.
Good food. For what you received, the prices for food and drinks were a little high.
We had asked for a nice corner booth and got it. We celebrated 2 birthdays and our waiter brought us a nice ice cream treat.
Our waiter was wonderful. our meals were excellent. The only item I would not order again is the baked potato, it was not fully cooked otherwise we had a great meal.
We went for our anniversary and had a great time. Recommend the Lex for any special occasion.
Our friends from Japan we’re in town to celebrate a college graduation. He had wanted to eat lobster since he was 4 years old and at 23 he ate it for the first time at the Lexington. Thanks!
I had the fish a la Gorbachev, pickled beet salad with arugula and cinnamon ice cream. The seasoning was perfect. One of the best meals I have had. Our server, Rick, was attentive and paced the evening well. Almost forgot, my Gin and Tonic was also perfect! Thank you for a wonderful evening.
WE WENT TO THE LEXINGTON FOR A NICE LUNCH. SUNDAYS LUNCH IS FOR THE MAJORITY ABOUT A BIG MEAL AND FAMILY. I DID NOT EXPECT TO ORDER A BURGER WHICH WAS ABOUT THE ONLY THING I COULD ORDER. THEN OUR SERVER WAS TOO NOSE IN THE AIR BECAUSE WE WANTED FOOD. SEMI SWEET CHAMPAGNE TASTED LIKE DRY WINE AND THEN WE PAYED $22 FOR THAT. IT WAS MY HUSBANDS 72ND BIRTH DATE AND I WANTED SOMETHING SPECIAL. SO NO MORE LEXINGTON EVER AGAIN
The best part of the meal was dessert!!!
This was the first time I've been to the Lexington, I was impressed from the very beginning starting with the parking attendant through dinner. The walleye cakes were excellent and the onion soup literally the best I've ever had - I'm going back just for that! The waitress also introduced me to a great Tequila used in a terrific Margarita (non of the sweet syrupy stuff). Going back!
So appreciative of the owners care in restoring this beautiful building. It's a great asset to St. Paul - a place to come to for comfort, excellent eating and wonderful service. Our family loves it! A special thank you to all responsible parties!
Excellent server and excellent crab Benedict!
I had the roast chicken and thought it was superb. The sauce especially was brilliant. And the kohlrabi seemed an original and appropriate addition. My wife had the Caesar salad. She thought it was overdressed and I agreed. But it was still delicious. Our daughter had the Steak Diane. She liked it very much. But, I regret that I did not taste it and cannot say more. I only noticed that the meat was rare to medium rare, as I think it should be.
For drinks, I requested a lager. But it was out of rotation. The waitress recommended a Pilsner called Indeed. It was okay but not great. My daughter had a Merlot and it was excellent. My wife had a Daquiri and was dissapointed. She thought it was more like a Margarita: overly sour and not enough fruit.
For dessert we shared a piece of the chocolate roulade and we really enjoyed that. Not too sweet: which made room for an appreciation of the other flavors- the bitter in the chocolate and the kirsch in the cream.
I rated the service lower because we had to wait such a long time for our meal. When our attendants were there they were there in force and were friendly, knowledgeable and capable. But then we would not see anyone for awhile. Especially when it was time to leave. We had to flag someone down to get our check. I had the impression that regular customers are well taken care of. But new or intermittent ones take their chances.
I cannot comment on the value too much. The surroundings were as elegant and comfortable as intended. But personally it is more money than I am used to spending. And consequently, if I go in for an expensive meal like that, my expectations are raised very high, maybe too high. Given that, I will recommend the Lexington. But more as a special occasion than as a frequent outing.
Lived up to its billing. Terrific experience all around. First time for us. Already planning our next visit. Superb.
Just a touch more detail. The medium rare porcini encrusted tenderloin was beautifully medium rare and perfectly seasoned. The salmon oscar was fantastic.
Memorable appetizers also. Onion rings are better than the ones they used to serve at Craft, which were the best I’d ever had. Shrimp in cast iron were served in a smoked paprika and chili oil that was memorable. You could serve almost anything in that and it would be great.
Put that with attentively thoughtful service in a beautiful setting. Great evening.
Great place with old St Paul charm. Went for an old school brunch of Eggs Benedict and a Bloody Mary. Both were delicious! The eggs came with a nice mixed green salad. The waiter was excellent! All the staff was very friendly from the moment we walked in, until left! Can't wait to go to the Roof Top this summer!
Note: noise level was good, I think I hit the wrong button and it wouldn't let me change!
WE brought my mother-in-law to the lEXINGTON FOR HER 91ST BIRTDAY. SHE ENJOYED IT QUITE A BIT (AS DID WE). I THOUGHT THE OOD WAS QUITE GOOD AND THE SERVICE EXCEPTIONAL.I REALLY LOVED THE NEW INTERIOR.
Fabulous as always. Owen was the perfect server.
Joe the Maitre De (Sp?) is outstanding!!! Kind and keeps peoples names in mind. Our server was outstanding also. Food was excellent, pork chops, ribs etc. Can not wait to go back!
First trip to the Lexington. Loved it. Both had one of the specials of the evening. I had a long bone rib, baked for 10 hours and it was “fall off the bone” tender and extremely flavorful. A great glaze and what a dinner! My wife had scallops and she said they were excellent. Started with the Lexington Salad - wonderful and large enough to split. The service was great, the ambience was great. We had a really nice dinner and will be back!
Our first visit to The Lexington for dinner (love it for brunch, but wanted to try dinner). A nice diverse menu. We started with the Seafood Cocktail, which was wonderful, and the Relish Tray (deviled eggs, summer sausage, whitefish pate, cheddar cheese and a liver mousse), which was also delightful. One friend tried the soup of the day, which was an arugula and leek soup, and he said it was wonderful. My other friend had the chopped celery Caesar, which was also good, and I had the Lex salad, kind of their take on a wedge salad. It was beautifully presented, and though a bit more vinegary than I'd anticipated it was very good. For dinner we had the fish of the day, the Steak Diane and the Duck and Foie meatballs in stroganoff. All were simply delightful.
My only complaint of the evening was that the service was a little inattentive. While they were busy, the room we were in was never completely full, and they had 3 - 4 servers in the room. When we finished the appetizers, they cleared the plates the food was delivered on, but not the plates we used to eat. Then when we asked about getting those cleared, they did so, but then brought a fresh basket of bread, but we no plates on which to put the bread. Service was friendly, just a little inattentive.
Wonderful restaurant, classy and unique. Great service and menu. Food was a bit too salty, but still tasty.
I am a lifelong St Paul kid CHS 1970. Julie is not so I am introducing her to the classic SP spots>> Frosts Commodore and the Lex. Start with a drink in the iconic bar then dinner in the formal dining room. We were seated in the lounge with a table that was wobbly.. DISAPPOINTING. for $200 I expect better thus my low marks John
Apparently double cut pork chop means two standard pork chops. Oh and they were smoked... not mentioned on menu and makes the maple blueberry glaze way too much. Wrong entrees initially bought. We asked for more rolls that came after dinner when plates cleared and check on the way.
Wonderful food and wonderful service! The server was very personable with the 4 littles in our party.
Love, love, love! Whether it is brunch, drinks at the bar with friends or dinner out with the husband, The Lexington always delivers with thoughtfulness on every facet of the dining experience. I appreciate the option of valet (even though parking is always easy) as well as the coat check. The staff is always the best: super professional, knowledgeable with just the right amount of playfulness. The atmosphere and décor make you feel transported to an exclusive club; however, the welcoming staff and patronage bring a juxtapose that is as welcoming as being at a good friend’s home. Oh, and the food and drinks are delish! I am a creature of habit and tend to stay with what I know I will like and at the Lexington I am never weary from my staple favorites. I always look forward to going and am always glad I came!
We had a fantastic experience at the Lexington! The ambiance was classy and warm. The food was delicious. Beef tartare, steak dianne and duck stroganoff. Our waiter was knowledgeable and so friendly. Do yourself a favor, treat yourself to a night at The Lexington!
Loved our waiter Rick who brought the menu to life. Noise level was a little high; it was hard to talk at our table of six.
Service was excellent!!
Beautiful spot. We will be back for sure. We can't wait to go grab a coktail and listen to the piano/live music.
