The Lexington is more than a restaurant, it’s an institution. Located on the corner of Lexington Parkway and Grand Avenue, this St. Paul community was the most fashionable at the turn of the 19th century. The St. Paul elite lived just blocks away and the first electric trolley brought visitors up and down Grand Avenue. The Lexington opened in 1935, after the end of prohibition, and was a popular neighborhood bar to gather and socialize. Previously operating as a speakeasy, the expansive wood panels were perfect for hiding a little booze and one can only imagine the shenanigans going on beyond the hidden staircase behind the coat check. For decades following, The Lex, as it’s called by locals and enthusiasts alike, was the place to be seen; business dealings, cocktail hours, and milestone celebrations were a regular occurrence for St. Paul socialites.

Thanksgiving 2021. This is the second time we have spent thanksgiving at the Lexington. It was absolutely perfect. Grace was our primary server. She was upbeat and anticipated everything we wanted. The food was excellent. We had the turkey dinner. The squash soup was to die for. And the atmosphere was elegant but not pretentious. And we were seated at the same banquet both visits. Loved it!
Wonderful way to celebrate Thanksgiving
BIG cocktail s
And friendly service
Really lovely meal. Still seated a bit close to other diners during a Covid spike, but everything else was wonderful. Service was attentive without being too much, something that’s incredibly difficult to achieve. Wonderful ambience, and best of all, you could actually hear people across the table.
The Lexington did an outstanding job with their Thanksgiving dinner offer. The meal was absolutely delicious, and our server, Patrick, was fantastic. I would give him a much higher rating than 5 stars - he was exceptional. We had a drink at the bar before our reservation, and the bartenders were amazing as well. There was a great variety of options for salad/soup, entrees and dessert. We were so happy with our choice of The Lex for our Thanksgiving celebration. The atmosphere at The Lex is always perfect, and Thanksgiving was no exception. Excellent!
The ambiance and food were amazing. Patrick and Grace have amazing personalities. Grace was very Knowledgeable about the menu. The flavor profile of the Thanksgiving dinner was unlike any other. It was by far the best Turkey I have eaten.
Lovely. Saoul was a fabulous server.
Service was fantastic. Food not too shabby either. Would return
Overall, really good but not as good as prepandemic. Change the coffee; it’s not the robust experience I wanted. The New York strip was completely trimmed of fat before cooking; well folks, fat adds flavor during cooking. So a premium cut of beef that was not prepared to its best. Scallops were perfection. Mushroom stroganoff also excellent. Deserts were devine. Service was attentive but only at the exact moment needed, so just right.
Server was outstanding and even named a birthday drink after me!
Everything was amazing! The only issue we ran into is that we had a group of 7 and when we asked for our leftovers to be boxed up, everyone received the wrong box so we went home with each others food.
Wonderful anniversary dinner, great food and service!
My partner and I had a pleasant experience. The attentive staff and live music stood out to us. Also, the building was designed uniquely and beautifully - it had a Great Gatsby-like, historic mansion vibe (we were invited to wait for our table by sitting on a large leather couch). I wish we had learned a little more about the history behind it, but it was still a nice experience.
Overpriced food - Murray's steak prices but much lower level of quality. Not worth it. Our main server (Patrick) was good but the server-in-training with him (can't recall his name) was excellent. Especially knowledgeable RE the wines. Seating was unacceptable - made the reservation for five over a month ago, but we were stuck in a corner with barely any light to read the menu. Noise level at times was uncomfortable. Overall, not worth it - there are many other better restaurants in the Cities.
Wonderful dining experience. First off, the quiet ambiance is exceptional. Makes this senior diner very happy.
Great staff. Very good food.
The experience was a delight.
Everything was amazing. Food was incredible however did feel a little more expensive than it should have been. Only negative was a fruit fly was buzzing around our table.
Excellent food and service. A delightful place. The ambience was nice. Will definitely go back.
All was great. Had a wonderful time!
I have been to The Lexington numerous times, and I've never been disappointed.
For some unreason, We felt rushed by the waiter. Either he wanted to take care of us, or it something else.
Attentive service, very good food with varied menu, but a bit spendy.
Beautiful location with so much history. The staff is courteous and the atmosphere is elegant, yet welcoming. The food is phenomenal and they have a very nice beverage selection. If you like sea food, their oysters and ahi tuna are delicious! Make sure to order their chocolate cake (for sharing with the table), you will not regret visiting this beautiful place.
The food was amazing, the steak was cooked perfectly and the variety made it hard to choose. Definitely need to go back to try the rest of the menu!
Everything was very good. Salmon, chicken, and pot pie.
Good food, good variety of food and excellent service.
I’ve been dining at The Lex for 40 years. The food was mediocre, not hot and not worth the price or the drive. It makes me sad and makes me miss what it once was. And my guest paid $7 to park in your lot. Either correct the sign or take it down. When I complained to the hostess she said she was sorry. She should have refunded the $7. Please empower your people to know how to fix a problem.
We had a wonderful experience celebrating my girlfriend’s birthday. The service was attentive and we were so impressed with all the small touches. We look forward to celebrating the big events at The Lexington going forward.
What an amazing dinner! Food was excellent (filet was one of the best we've ever had), service was over the top great (Jack was helpful, responsive - can tell he is an experienced server). If you have a special occasion, or just want to splurge on a great dinner, you can't go wrong at the Lexington. Worth every penny!! Highly recommend!!
We had a terrific evening at the Lex after far too many years away. We love the renovations and the staff was amazing. “Silent service” is such a rarity these days. Our evening was provided in part by friends who live in the neighborhood and are big fans. We consider ourselves among them!
I love the Lexington. Mature crowd, formal, fine dining and the music was out of this world!!
Philippe the waiter was awesome! Knowledgeable, professional with excellent customer service skills!!
Overall excellent!! I will definitely come back and recommend!!
We were so happy that the jazz group was playing. We loved it! Great service as well!
Great birthday celebration! We took friends of ours for the first time and they loved it!
We love the feel and character of the Lexington. Cozy. Cool. Great food! and great service!
Our steaks were cooked perfectly (rare) and the sauce delicious. The onion rings are hand battered and very good. Loved the mixture of French and Blue Cheese Dressings on the wedge salad!
I proposed to my wife in the parking lot of The Lexington over 24 years ago. We started to go back there to celebrate every year since they re-opened. We were sad when it was closed due to the history of us there. We LOVE the food and the ambience of The Lexington. It is pricey but worth every penny. We both get the Wood Fire Grilled King Crab legs and they are F'ing AWESOME every year... year after year. I look forward to it every year. We are also going to be taking my mom and dad there to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in November. My mouth is watering as I write this. Put this place on your list of restaurants to go to.
Wonderful food and service!! Celebrated a 40th Birthday
We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and had a great evening out. Everything was top notch starting with the service - Chuck and Patrick were attentive, helpful and friendly. The food was delicious from the walleye cake starter to the butternut squash bisque to our entrees (whitefish and the signature chicken pot pie) and finishing with key lime pie. They even surprised us with a complimentary photo and Grand ‘ol Creamery vanilla ice cream as an anniversary celebration. We highly recommend this restaurant.
We hadn’t been to the Lex in awhile so decided to go for my birthday this year, the food and service were fantastic. Great place for a special occasion.
Heidi was a GREAT Server!
The food was excellent.
The host was kind and greeted us the second we walked in.
Great ambiance... great date spot.
We had a wonderful evening at The Lexington last night! The service was as amazing as the food! It was a special occasion for us, and The Lexington was the perfect place to create memories. The food was exceptional and the staff went above and beyond in helping us enjoy a terrific night. I am a former waitress, so my standards are high, and Patrick and all the others blew me away!
Great restaurant! Delicious food, generous drinks, wonderful servers, fabulous ambiance. Highly recommend. Only question… why have ordinary brown & serve rolls rather than some kind of fancier bread? The salted butter was delish so maybe it made up for the pedestrian rolls? Regardless, The Lexington is a real gem, I promise you’ll love it.
