About The Leopard at des Artistes
Located in the New York landmarked Hotel Des Artistes, and surrounded by the astonishing 1920s murals by Howard Chandler Christy, THE LEOPARD at des Artistes finds its roots in the area once known as “The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies” (mid 1800s) and in the culinary traditions of the regions of Campania, Basilicata, Calabria, Apulia, Sardinia, and of course Sicily, reaching a balance between dishes based on rural elements, such as pasta, vegetables, cheese, and seafood ingredients from the Costiera.

The Leopard at des Artistes Ratings and Reviews
My mother and I ate here before we went to the opera. We had 5:15pm dinner reservations and were out by 6:40pm. They seated us immediately and had a coat check, which meant we didn't have to haul our coats and scarves to our seats. They had a nice drink menu. Our appetizers were the real standout. We had the meat and cheese plate and a buffalo mozzarella special with grilled eggplant and tomatoes. It was so delicious! My mother kept raving about the olive oil!
For our dinner, I had the pappardelle with rabbit and my mother had a pumpkin toretellini in a walnut sauce. Both dishes were nice but not memorable. I found a small bone in my dish, which turned me off to it the slightest.
For dessert we had the nutella mousse with banana gelato. Very tasty!
Our waiter was very attentive and our waters were refilled consistently. Overall, service was the standout at this restaurant. It was also quite busy right from the time it opened in the evening, so be sure to make reservations if you plan on dining here on a Saturday night.
After the symphony we walked to the restaurant. What an amazing experience. We have rarely enjoyed a restaurant more.. The ambiance is lovely, quiet and intimate. THe service is attentive but not overbearing. The food is exquisite with attention to detail. The pasta pillows were cooked perfectly.
We plan to return soon
I went to the Leopard at Des Artistes before a matinee at Lincoln Center. I had been to Cafe des Artistes several years ago. Since the Il Gattopardo guys took over the interior has been lightened up. The Maxfield Parrish murals remain and are very cool bit of old New York.
The restaurant is very Italian. The waiters wear white jackets as you see in many restaurants in Italy. Service is very friendly and attentive. Given that I was going to the theater, I was concerned about time. I did not mention this to the staff, but I was served with alacrity but not in a way that I felt they were rushing me out the door.
The best part, though, was the food. I had a pasta special for lunch. I'm pretty sure that the pasta (orrechiette) was homemade. It was delicious. The veal and porcini mushroom ragout that dressed the pasta was very flavor and, overall, awesome. I also indulged in a wonderful torts di marscapone. Yum.
I can't wait for another trip to the Leopard. I'm thinking of a dinner sometime soon!
We really enjoyed a quiet, leisurely brunch here on a Saturday. Great guitar and bass jazz duo, lovely surroundings with the iconic murals and attentive service. One of us had a more traditional brunch offering - they offer the greats -- but I had an awesome pasta special. Clearly one of their talents. Highly recommend!
