About The Leopard at des Artistes

Located in the New York landmarked Hotel Des Artistes, and surrounded by the astonishing 1920s murals by Howard Chandler Christy, THE LEOPARD at des Artistes finds its roots in the area once known as “The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies” (mid 1800s) and in the culinary traditions of the regions of Campania, Basilicata, Calabria, Apulia, Sardinia, and of course Sicily, reaching a balance between dishes based on rural elements, such as pasta, vegetables, cheese, and seafood ingredients from the Costiera.

Dinner was delicious and the service was outstanding. Our waiter was charming and attentive without being intrusive. He filleted our Dover sole skillfully and prepared a delicious sabayon tableside. Can’t wait to return.

The Leopard is truly a great experience. The ambiance is wonderful and the service is impeccable. When you go, let the Captain suggest an assorted first course. The food was perfection. We will go back again.

The service starting from the coat check and hostess to the wait staff was great. We arrived early for our reservation and were seated immediately. We were not rushed and had a very relaxing meal. The decor is subtle and elegant. The location was great before a performance at the Met.

The food was excellent, Sicilian based, and about the best we've had in New York for this cuisine. Service was impeccable. As the evening (Jan. 12) progressed, so did the noise level, but nothing unusual about that if you're eating out.

The elegant murals and white tablecloths make this restaurant special. It also offers a $50 three-course prix fixe menu that is an attractive alternative to its pricey a la carte offerings. The Italian food is less successful however. A green salad came dripping in dressing; veal scallopine was mediocre, but the risotto excelled as did the panna cotta dessert. Our party doubled in size from three to six and a mid-day call to change the reservation was greeted with good cheer and accommodation. We will most likely return.

Chose Leopard because it was close to Lincoln Center, also because I like its sister restaurant Il Gattopardo. But it was dispappoint against high expectations. Instead, it was just OK, satisfactory, nothing special , neither food nor service.

Our reservation was for a late seating on New Years Eve, and that is a difficult time for any restaurant, but we arrived on time and were left standing in the crowded bar area for half an hour before being seated. I think they simply over-committed, but could have taken better care of us while we waited (offered a free glass of wine, for example). Once seated the service was reasonably attentive, but the food itself did not live up to our expectations. The sole entree was particularly uninspired. Poor value.

The Service was too efficient, besides it was after Theatre visit and we had to tell the waitstaffs to slow it down.

Excellent service, particularly in being seated. Of course, the décor is beautiful. The food was wonderful. We spent New Year's Eve here and never felt rushed.

I've never had white meat chicken that was so moist rather than dry. Food was extremely well prepared and served. Service was great. Wall murals throughout the restaurant were wonderful, unique and artsy.

Waiter spilled a glass of water on my wife and there was no apology from him or the management. Service was adequate but very perfunctory. Food was ok, but not extraordinary and consistent with the price.

Great experience except Special Christmas Menu main course. Oven roasted baby goat was just an awful piece of fat meat. Almost nothing good to eat inside. A big disappointment for the people who took it.

Lovely atmosphere with the playful murals all around. The food is so good. I had the gnocchi with asparagus and micro greens ...and the Branzino and the wonderful Christmas dessert of chestnut cream and chocolate...All excellent! The sommelier helped us pick out a wonderful organic red wine that was reasonably priced. The manager, George is so gracious and runs the restaurant so well. All the waiters and staff are very nice and accommodating. Oh, and they serve the best breadsticks! This restaurant is worth checking out!

Outstanding southern Italian cuisine. Frankly, this was the best meal I have ever had with Sardines as the base.

I was visiting NYC just for 1 night and came to the Leopard at des Artistes after attending a concert closeby at Lincoln Center. It was Sunday evening which allowed me to take advantage of the Sunday BYOW offer so I had an exquisite meal consisting of a wonderful beet salad followed by pappardelle with veal and porcini mushrooms to accompany my bottle of 2009 Antinori Solaia! Highly recommend this restaurant!

We had an absolutely fabulous Sunday lunch, it was really perfect. I asked to sit in the back which they accommodated. I had the special pasta which was great and the cocktails were very well made. I cannot wait to go back.

The service was wonderful and the appetizers were great. Drinks were expensive but very good.
Our pasta entrees were horrible! Clearly the pasta was long overdue in being served and sat under heat lamps getting cold and gummy! YUCK!
It was far too late in the evening to send it back.
Awful! Awful! Awful!

Dinner at the Leopard is always a wonderful dining experience. The ambiance is just perfect. Great lighting, the murals. Service is professional and unhurried. Our server recommended a wine from a newly-opened magnum that was just superb. Food choices were excellent. Short walk to Lincoln Center.

My friends and I regularly eat brunch at The Leopard before seeing a matinee performance at the Lincoln Center theaters. The dining room is charming; the wait staff pleasant; the food is good and the price is right. I would recommend it highly. I have not eaten dinner here recently, so can comment only on the brunch.

We went to Sunday Brunch. The jazz combo was delightful . The service, food, and atmosphere was outstanding. We dine frequently in New Orleans and found the elegance of fine Dining, comparable to the high standards set by Commanders Palace, Galetoires, and others.

We made a mistake in ordering the prix fixe dinner. It was uninspired and pedestrian. The veal was tough and tasteless. Nice ambience but Saturday night is obviously the wrong night to go.
