About The Leopard at des Artistes

Located in the New York landmarked Hotel Des Artistes, and surrounded by the astonishing 1920s murals by Howard Chandler Christy, THE LEOPARD at des Artistes finds its roots in the area once known as “The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies” (mid 1800s) and in the culinary traditions of the regions of Campania, Basilicata, Calabria, Apulia, Sardinia, and of course Sicily, reaching a balance between dishes based on rural elements, such as pasta, vegetables, cheese, and seafood ingredients from the Costiera.

The service was wonderful and the appetizers were great. Drinks were expensive but very good.
Our pasta entrees were horrible! Clearly the pasta was long overdue in being served and sat under heat lamps getting cold and gummy! YUCK!
It was far too late in the evening to send it back.
Awful! Awful! Awful!

Dinner at the Leopard is always a wonderful dining experience. The ambiance is just perfect. Great lighting, the murals. Service is professional and unhurried. Our server recommended a wine from a newly-opened magnum that was just superb. Food choices were excellent. Short walk to Lincoln Center.

My friends and I regularly eat brunch at The Leopard before seeing a matinee performance at the Lincoln Center theaters. The dining room is charming; the wait staff pleasant; the food is good and the price is right. I would recommend it highly. I have not eaten dinner here recently, so can comment only on the brunch.

We went to Sunday Brunch. The jazz combo was delightful . The service, food, and atmosphere was outstanding. We dine frequently in New Orleans and found the elegance of fine Dining, comparable to the high standards set by Commanders Palace, Galetoires, and others.

This is an old world type place that is absolutely lovely. The space has housed several other restaurants over the years, each special in its own way.

I have been to the Leopard several times and have found the service impeccable and the food fabulous. It is also romantic—it is where I proposed to my wife!

We made a mistake in ordering the prix fixe dinner. It was uninspired and pedestrian. The veal was tough and tasteless. Nice ambience but Saturday night is obviously the wrong night to go.

My wife did not like her pasta. One or two bites. Waiter said “was there something wrong “. Yes dry and not good. Waiter walked away and made no attempt to remedy her meal. Charged us. Why ask?

Having been to Il Gattopardo on several occasions, I expected a similar level of cuisine. The food was good, but it lacked the whoomph present at W. 54th.

I was unimpressed with the food overall. While our main courses were tasty ( I actually ordered the chicken and I NEVER order chicken in a restaurant; my son ordered the lamb which was excellent), everything else was bland and uninspired. We had a mushroom side dish that could have come out of a jar and the appetizer asparagus soup was terrible as was the amuse bouche. The service was excellent and it was very close to Lincoln Center which was a big plus. Good for pre show dinner.

Leopard offers some of the best Italian food in the city, and that says a lot. The pasta nonna is the best I've ever had including all over Italy.

Always a joy to return to this elegant restaurant and to dine amongst Howard Chandler Christy's nine historic murals in a room as lovely as Christy's nymphs. Service is professional and polished without being pretentious and the food is a testament to the gastronomic joys of Italy—though daily specials can be expensive: $54 for a whole branzino, fileted tableside (always a refined touch). In other words, ask the price. Live music at brunch complements the romantic atmosphere.

The paintings at The Leopard are the best part. The booths, patina of age, and cozy seating has been updated leaving us wishing for a time gone by. The steak at $100 (to share) looked beautiful, but was tough and not delicious. The birthday greeting on the dessert was nice, but the chef did not create a memory with the food. The service was good, but not exceptional. The entire meal was nice, but not exceptional. Oh, I take that back. The Classic Stracciatella soup was something to write home about! Sitting at the bar would be nice next time.

Could not have been happier with our dinner last night. In fact, we raised our wine glasses to a toast to our happiness! The staff was knowledgeable, attentive and accommodating, the meal was delicious, the wine pairings were perfect. The lovely murals on the wall provided a charming backdrop for a terrific evening.

I thought that the space was nice, but that was the only positive. The food was mediocre at best, the service was not attentive, and the desire to please, I thought, was low. I specifically asked for something, and I got just the opposite. Considering the cost, it was a great disappointment, and we will not return.

Super non tomato Italian food. Varied somewhat expensive selection of almost exclusively Italian wines. Ambiance set off by old murals is warm and civilized. Attentive helpful service.
