Booked the Laureate, but were given a table in the Graduate Bar. We were then told the Laureate didn't open till later (even though we'd booked a table there!) and so we had to sit in the bar. Also meant we couldn't have the menu we'd already seen (and already decided what we wanted to eat from the online version!) but instead had to pick from the restricted Bar menu.
The Bar isn't a great place to eat a meal - ok for a drink. Big, cavernous space. Very low lighting so couldn't read the menu...all fine for a bar, but not for a restaurant.
Staff were apologetic (and very good) but in the end wasn't what we'd imagined / expected when we booked.

Had ham terrine, chicken ballotine and cheese board. She had scallops, ballotine and mint choc ice cream and fondant. All good except the terrine. 2 of the tiniest bits of toast I've ever seen and they were stone cold, hard and inedible. also very little seasoning in terrine. It is not hard to make toast and the waitress wanted to tell the chef but I wasn't bothered as he was looking straight at me from the open kitchen. The food was not bad and aspired to better however the £15 a glass wine pushed our bill to a Michelin spend. We were on a special night out so didn't go for the bar menu but perhaps this is not the place if you are going for pre gig drinks and not on an expense account!

The Restaurant was welcoming, clean and the staff were very welcoming; however our wait from order to meal was over 45 minutes. The staff kept us updated about the wait just prior to service.

Hotel restaurant so at first sight a little bland, however the food was really good the service was fantastic, attentive without being too much. Prices fair for a hotel. Will definitely return would recommend

I thought I would give The Laureate a try based on some reviews I read. I don't usually go to hotel restaurants. A cold steak and a cold Sauce de Paris do not go well together.

The fillet steak was very good and cooked exactly as ordered (medium/rare). The chips were also good. There was a 'dash' of shallot puree, half a tomato and half a shallot, so a little light on the accompaniments. I did ask for more sauce and it was brought, free of charge.
The calamari was tender and, for a starter, was a good sized portion. However, again, there was not enough aioli. We ordered our deserts, choosing ice cream. The waiter came back saying that the freezer had defrosted overnight and the ice cream hadn't frozen again yet and was still runny. This was a bit of a let down, but never mind they said you can have cream instead. A shame as most of the deserts had ice cream with them and we were still charged full price.
The restaurant is nice but overpriced in a city where there are so many other good restaurants to choose from.

It’s actually a restaurant within a hotel which I didn’t realize until I arrived.

It is well decorated and quite comfortable but since it is a hotel restaurant the ambience is a bit sanitary. I ordered a non-alcoholic beverage which was not great at all and was quite citrusy and ended up getting sent back and swapped for a simple elderflower tonic on ice. Their soup of the day was absolutely divine and turned the meal around but my main meal of rice and beef was unexpected as I anticipated a small piece of beef steak and rice not that the beef was minced into the rice.

The meal as a whole was nothing extraordinary but the service was very good and made up for the average dining experience.
