The Land and Water Co.
They have an amazing atmosphere, incredible staff, and a great menu with some of the most inventive sushi in San Diego. I love that their menu is sustainably sourced as well. Love this place.
We love this place! It’s the best sushi in San Diego.
From the minute we arrived it was pretty bad. The hostess seemed lost & unsure about how to find our reservation. When she found it she said to another person, “oh I have that table to the wrong person”, and proceeded to seat us in a back dark room even when there were multiple tables open in the main room that had light, energy & people. We asked for a better table & it took her a while to figure out to put us up front. First bad feeling.
Then we sat & waited for ANYONE to come by to greet us & take a drink order. After 10 minutes we flagged down someone & they promised to get our server.
When our server arrived we ordered drinks, asked about the ingredients that were in one of the special cocktails but the waitress had no clue how to answer AND she talked so low it was virtually impossible to hear her. She left to find out the answer and didn’t come back for another 10 minutes. When she returned she had the answer but no other drinks! I went to say I didn’t want that drink but she just left assuming I would take that. My husband had to get up to tell her my correct order AND to tell her we were ready to order some food. It’s now bordering on 30 minutes & we have nothing. Not even water!
Because I’m exhausted and bored with this review I will cut to the chase. Our waitress had no clue about the menu & the ordering went the same way as the drinks. The food was mediocre. My friend said she was glad she didn’t pick the place which I had been really excited to try. We all concluded the person that did a phenomenal job was the PR company. They were just perfect in seducing me to try out this new place that had such promise. I was embarrassed at getting sucker punched. The place looks like they food an old fish restaurant & dusted off the cobwebs. Judge a place by how dirty they keep the bathrooms which were a mess with overflowing garbage.
Staff was very nice. We thought we wanted to be outside but we got cold. They were nice enough to move us back inside even though they were busy. Sushi was delicious!
Waitress was horrible. Ruined the ENTIRE experience. Manager explained that “ she was on her way out” so that’s why service was so poor. We were celebrating my daughters birthday so it was supposed to be special. Refunded our dessert. Expected better. Food was really good
Great service, fun location
This place has everything you’re looking for. Happy hour is 100% worth it!
Amazing! Food was great, service was fast and they were quick to remove plates, fill drinks, and ask if we needed anything (but weren’t annoying). A little bummed that I had put it was my husbands bday on our reservation and they didn’t do anything for that. It also got a little loud around 7. But we would go again in a heartbeat. The food was delicious!
The ingredients were fresh! The best sushi ever. We will definitely be returning.
Amazing food. Very creative dishes such as the mushrooms with a poached egg and the beef skewers with tongue are so good you will want to order more. Sushi is really fresh and the have great cocktail selections as well.
Service mediocre at best.
The food was great even though the combinations of flavors were a bit unique. The service was horrible. We waited for almost 15 minutes before even getting water. Our meals, when they finally started coming 20-30 minutes after ordering, came out piece meal and took another 30 minutes plus.
Celebrated my husband‘s 50th birthday here and had a wonderful time. The cocktails we’re super tasty… I had the Fire and Honey one and it was awesome. We ordered four different appetizers and they were all outstanding. I had the Braised short ribs-DELICIOUS and my husband had the Jidori curry chicken which was equally good. Presentation was on point and service was quite good!
Great food but over the top noise.
Land and Water was awesome as usual. The Surf and Turf is the go to for me.
The absolute best sushi I've had. So fresh and full of flavor!
My favorite sushi place in America! The quality and freshness are as good as any Michelin starred restaurant. In fact, Land and Water deserves a Michelin star. I love it that much.
Amazing food and initimate setting, except we were sat right next to the store and it was a little too bright for a romantic dinner
Absolutely fabulous sushi and food items. The Happy Hour offerings are great. Everything is so fresh, that it just melts in your mouth. Some of the sushi items are different, which is fun! Loved everything.
Wonderful food, management, staff, and atmosphere, a neighborhood gem!
Land and Water is my go to place for fresh and amazing sushi. The water roll is amazing. One of the best sushi places I have every been to
Menu was different than what was published on the web site. Basically, second rate sushi.
freshest sushi, delicious beets, great happy hour price on wine which was unexpected on a friday night.
the sushi was very good, the service was good, only downer was the fact that they are infamiliar with traditional sushi...good food but another place focused on rolls
Love this place. Best sushi in SD county
Consistently delicious. Been here twice and everything (drinks and food) was great, each time.
Food took a long time to arrive but expected on a busy night I suppose. Overall 7/10
Land and Water is one of our favorites and never disappoints. We sat at the bar with Rob and as usual he made it another great visit. I have and will continue to recommend this place.
Service so slow, you might think the staff had stepped out to go on strike. Poor follow up on requests. Food was "okay" but given the terrible service, I would not recommend.
Only complaint was the noise - not a good spot for sitting around the dinner table and catching-up with old friends.
This was our third visit and each time the service has been poor.
On this visit it took over 30 minutes to get a cocktail and almost an hour to receive our food. The restaurant seemed understaffed and was not overly busy.
Overall the food is delicious, I love the history of the building (amazing) but event the restaurant was freezing on this evening and it was very uncomfortable.
Chad is the best!
Great sushi, great terrasse. Too bad there was no propane in outside heater tanks, we had to come inside. But overall, this is a great place, must-see.
The sushi is out of this world!!!
Land and Water has the best sushi I have ever had. The service is also amazing
The best Sushi! It’s all good! Great service and all around great food! Will be back!
Love everything about this place only wish the music was a lower volume. It makes it a bit difficult to carry on a conversation.
Amazing everything! Can’t wait to go back!
The food was excellent The beef skewers are incredible. We had Fishermans stew with shark (the catch of the day), also excellent. We also got a to go order and the bartender at the to-go counter was an absolute JERK (long hair, probably late 20s). Will not be going back! I saw our food at the to go counter in the to go box, I thought I would ust walk over to grab it, but I didn't want to be rude, so I waited to make eye contact with him to get the okay from him, and he yells. "bro, I WILL GET IT FOR YOU", very rudely. We live in Carlsbad and we go to the village to eat all the time, I'll never go back to this place after that.
Sushi was delicious and our sushi chefs had awesome knife skills, we’ll definitely come again!
