The Land and Water Co.
Excellent unique food!
Just a great restaurant for farm (and sea) to table food. Love the sushi, jadori chicken, and vegetable appetizers. The ramen was a nice surprise at this visit. Love the fresh flavors in all the dishes. Only negative is the cocktails are not exceptional.
Went out with another couple, our night away from the baby, they are expecting a baby in the coming months. Waitress was not very knowledgeable on the menu, told the pregnant lady they could not sear the fish since it was "pre-cut for sushi". She ended up ordering chicken. The rest of us got fish. Pregnant lady has a dairy sensitivity, asked for her appetizer to have the cream sauce on the side. We ordered the same appetizer. One came out first and it was given to them, she asked if it was the one with the sauce on the side, the server gave a long justification as to why it was and the sauce was on the plate but on the side. 5 minutes later (after they were done eating) our appetizer came out with the sauce clearly on the side in a separate dish. The chicken arrived a good 45 minutes before the rest of the food. We were told "sushi is behind schedule due to the kitchen being busy". The restaurant (Sunday night) was maybe 20% occupied and the chefs did not appear busy. When our food finally arrived, i was shocked to see the service size. None of the 4 of us were satisfied, none of the 4 of us will be back, all of the 4 of us woke up hungry the next day and $150 poorer.
This is our second time at the L&W Co.
Twice the experience started very poorly with the hostess. She is not able to coordinate waiting guests, free tables, menus... and at the phone she is even worse.... not gentle at all. I would strongly suggest some training.
The bartenders are gentle, really "customer focused". The drinks are really special.
The food (by the way, the fusion style proposed is great!) was in the first time, spectacular, but on the second time, maybe because it was a busy day, not so great. Our surf& turf roll came a little too salty and falling into pieces. Anyway, for the originality, I would recommend it (and I will repeat it). The tomato salad, the albacore poke with orange and rose salt, and the "water" roll were twice very very tasty.
In general, for the originality, for the nice place and location I would recommend W&L Co.
Awesome as usual. Can’t miss here.
We love eating at Land and Water. The food is always outstanding and the service is excellent. We will be back again soon!
Great and attentive service by the hostess as well as our server Kayla. She was very accommodating. The food was delicious and fresh. The desert portion could have been a tad bigger, at least for two per sharing. Be that as it may, the overall experience etc. was fantastic, especially for couples! We are coming back :)
Love the food! Servers are very friendly and attentive but it does get busy and pretty loud so conversations are difficult but totally worth it
The ingredients, flavors, and presentations were terrific.
The service was an abomination.
When your bill comes out to be $300 there ought to be a corresponding level of attention and responsiveness.
Food was delivered in the opposite order than was requested.
One of the servers was surly for no reason.
We ordered a round of drinks and there was a half our gap the separated the receipt of half of our party’s cocktails.
Even after a visit from the manager it took 20 minutes for a side order and a beer to arrive.
There’s got to be a better way.
Land and Water is one of our favorite places to eat. It always meets our expectations and is centrally located in Carlsbad Village so lots of things to do afterwards. Also, the water roll is amazing.
Best poke in San Diego county, hands down. Great food, sustainably and locally sourced, and a great location. A must eat place if ever in the area.
The reason why I said No. It's because I went on happy hour hours. Limited menu. What I had was great just a bit over price. Great service and had the place to my self.
The quality of the food is very high, but they may be trying too hard on the taste combinations. Salmon with feta, and balsamic overwhelms what was a great cut of sashimi. The nigiri was fantastic. Service slow, on a slow Tuesday night. Good cocktails!
The food was very good. We would definitely come back.
We ordered two apples and two mains. A main came out first, followed by the two appetizers. Due to a problem in the kitchen, we waited a long time for the last main to come out.
The first time I made a reservation, it was cancelled by the restaurant. Apparently they left a message, but I did not hear it. We showed up for our 6:30 dinner reservation to find the restaurant closed. I understand these things happen- no big deal. But I would have hoped that the restaurant would have called back the patrons who had reservations with some sort of acknowledgement.
Still, really good food.
We got there and they had a sign out saying they didn’t open until 8. It looked like they had a breakage in the bar and were trying to clean it up. Someone should have met us and given an explanation and a free meal voucher or at least a discount in our next meal to encourage us to try again for our inconvenience.
I made reservations for 3:30pm and when I walked in the place was empty with two bartenders “appearing busy” behind the bar counter and didn’t acknowledge me walking in.
When I closed in the bar, I told them I had made reservations for 2 (through Open Table) but I guess I didn’t need them as the place was virtually empty.
The bartender looks at me, expressionless, and says “we are not serving”...that was it; no explanation why, no “I am sorry” etc.
I was flabbergasted with the callous approach and had to run out to find another place to eat with 10 min to spare since my friend was driving a long distance...
Not a place I am going to go back especially given the rude service and no messaging that they “were not serving”.
We had a great time and Land and Water Co. The sushi was excellent and the service was friendly and helpful.
Each plate individually prepared. A gastronomic delight.
Food was very bland...very disappointment.
Great food..Great service..The sushi was exceptional as was the beets w/goat cheese!
The food is always fresh and wonderful. The 2 things, in my opinion, that this restaurant needs to work on is their timing & service. In all of my experiences at this place either it takes forever to get served. From the beginning, being waited on initially, to the length of time it can take to receive your order.
The other day, all of our appetizers and salads came out followed very shortly by our main courses.
Disappointing 😐 We were Celebrating a Birthday Dinner & decided to sit outside since the noise level inside was loud!
After 20 minutes my Husband went to inquire about our Server. She said she hadn’t seen us, yet there were other guests being served outside.
We ordered & made our Wine selection. We were told they were OUT of both Chardonnay & Sauvignon Blanc on a Sat evening, in the Summer, at 8 PM ☹️
The Food was Great, but the Slow service & lack of Wine, really took a hit on this Review!!
The surf & turf was amazing! For appetizers, must try the pork belly & poke! Yummy! I felt the service could have been better. There was a few times we were looking for our waitress. I’m pretty understanding since I have waited tables in the past. Other that, our dinner was delicious & everyone mentioned coming back!
This is our go-to place for date night when visiting Oceanside/Carlsbad. Everything is excellent!
Service was poor,
Food was delicious and well priced for the area. Service was borderline average.
Great experience as alway, food fresh creative and delicious and service friendly and quick
Loved it super great Suchi
Food was decent. Service was off. Timing, rhythm and basic common sense for serving wasn’t working for them. I will go back again. Hoping it was just new hires in training that threw the dinner off.
Food was good. Nothing spectacular. The Carlsbad roll was exceptional however. The noise level was awful. For that reason we would not go back again.
We had a party of 8, they put us in a dark room off to the side. Called us 3 hours before reservation warning us that the entrees will come out as they're ready, don't expect all the entrees to come out all at once. What kind of restaurant says that, and they weren't even busy that night. Food was average. Big disappointment.
As always the service, food quality and presentation were excellent as were the cocktails before hand at The Charles Kenneth Speakeasy.
Favorite dinner spot in Carlsbad....I've never had a bad experience.
We love Land And Water! The sushi is awesome and the pot pie was anazing
Great food and awesome service. They have really quality food and the sushi is epic.
the Sushi was fabulous!!!!! Our waitress was helpful with selecting menu items for us. The only disappointment was it took way too long to get cocktails, had to ask where they were several times! We will be back though for the food.
Superb as always. If you have not been yet, treat yourself to something good.
Had a Woman in White drink and it was fabulous! They didn’t serve soy sauce with their sushi and thought I might need some before I tried it. It was perfect as it was brought. Nothing else needed. Great food and great service!
Amazing sushi. The best in north county
Amazingly fresh sushi, great rolls, sushi and specials, sake and all wrapped up in a wonderful location. Bravo!
