The Lanai Kauai
Our favorite spot in poipu area
Best is no corkage if you buy wine in the market next door.
We had a lovely light dinner at Lanai. We purchased a bottle of wine at Living Foods (so no corkage fee at Lanai), and ordered the Chacuterie plate and the cheese plate for a lovely dinner.
The food was good, but could have been better for the price. Some of the flavors were completely overpowering the food instead of complimenting it. The greens in my salad were completely beat up and didn’t seem fresh. The service was excellent and the drinks were really good. I would definitely go back for a drink but might skip the food next time.
The Lanai has been a fine addition to the Poipu dining scene. They pay attention to the origins of the food they serve (this is a project of Living Foods). I especially like the nice variety of pupus offered. We have made a dinner of a salad and pupus many times. The entrees are also arty good, but the pupus are more inventive.
It was 'fine'...not great, not bad. Was fairly expensive for the experience but it again was 'fine'
Enjoyed the overall experience super friendly great service food drinks and atmosphere superb
An excellent choice for a quality lunch and dinner at a more moderate price point.
The Lanai is affiliated with Living Foods. You can buy a bottle of wine at Living Foods and the restaurant will waive the corkage fee. I find their pupus and salads more interesting than the entrees, so often order only from those portions of the menu. The entrees are good, just not as interesting as the pupus. Service is earnest if not always as attentive as they might be.
Very limited menu; service was like being at a diner counter but less congenial
Pleasant atmosphere. Good service. The roasted chicken was very well done. Delicious. Worth the trip.
Truly delicious food. Laid back atmosphere. There are a lot of good food options in this area, The Lanai stands out as it manages to be delicious without being pretentious and without being pushy. The Lanai also provides an intimate setting which allows you to focus on your food and company as opposed to the “production” going on in some
Of the physically larger options in the area. The Lanai is the optioned I’d choose to return to.
The servers are great and the manager, Apryl, is wonderful
Seafoood platter is discontinued. Expensive for what we ordered. Sat next to the entrance on a slanted small table. The next table was so close the diner behind me kept banging my chair.

There were four of us and I enjoyed my meal. The Brussels were very good, definitely get an order of them. The cheicken dish was delicious and my husband loved the short ribs. My son didn’t care for the fish in coconut milk, it was very unusual. Overall, I would definitely give it a try!! I enjoyed my meal very much.
Excellent food , excellent service
Would definitely recommend and go again
Really good food and good service. But you must reservation for a table.
The food was mediocre. Had high hopes given reviews from others but really fell flat for me.
Glad to have a vegan option - and an interesting, tasty one at that. Would love it if they had more than just one so that I could have something different when I go back. Maybe a pasta? But stuffed squash with green curry sauce is nice and also pretty.
The Lanai is my favorite restaurant on the Island. Very fresh food. Great presentation. Never fails to impress.
Food was unimpressive and overpriced. The miso chowder was cloyingly sweet, while the shrimp and grits were watery and a gut bomb.
Disappointing this time, we’ve enjoyed The Lanai in the past, not this trip.
Overall our dinner experience was amazing! Only thing I would like to see improved upon is the wine list. I would have liked to have more house wine options to choose from so I could pair the perfect wine with my amazing dish!
Steak marinade flavor not good
Fish in Thai soup fissshhhyyyy
Based on a positive Happy Hour experience one night we came back a following night for dinner, and had a somewhat different experience. The food was delightful and service professional. But we were seated next to a young family with a very "energetic" child. Listening to screams and having to dodge flying food detracted from our $100+ meal. While we understand that a restaurant cannot discriminate against willing customers, but there can be some subtle "separation" of clientele and (I believe) once projectiles are affecting other customers the restaurant management has a right to ask for decorum from any customers. We mentioned our experience to our server, and then to the hostess as we left. We got apologies and shrugs. But based on this experience we are never going back.
Such a lovely spot. There was live music in the courtyard and a very relaxed vibe. We had two salads and mules to drink...both were wonderful. Dave was a great waiter.
Great service and excellent food with a very interesting menu.
Pleasant outdoor/covered patio setting at the quiet end of a nice shopping complex between Poipu and Koloa. Friendly efficient service. We enjoyed a bit of happy hour (reasonable) before dinner. MahiMahi floated in a coconut ginger chowder was excellent (but a little salty), satisfying and attractively presented. Pricing reasonable for this expensive area. Recommended.
Great service, great menu, and a wonderful relaxing spot to hang. It’s not in the center of the plaza but for me that’s a plus.
Loved it so much we came back again the next night!
Very disappointing. We have been to the Living Foods store many times for carry out and looked forward to a good meal at the associated Lanai restaurant. To start, the menu is very odd - we were hard pressed to find anything that looked attractive. We ended up with penne pasta with a heavy cheese sauce, shrimp, and pork belly. Way too rich to finish. Might have been okay with bacon, but the pork belly was out of place. There was no fresh fish featured on the menu, which is odd at a restaurant a mile from the ocean. Service was ambivalent - you needed to be ready when the server came or there was a long wait until she cycled around again. The “full bar” is not really a full bar as it does not offer blended drinks - again odd for a tropical setting. Lanai really needs to up its game if it hopes to compete with much better restaurants in the immediate area.
The restaurant is owned by the adjoining gourmet market. But after very good avocado croquettes, the salad was surprisingly poor quality greens. The fish entree was buried in a bland broth. While the hamburger was very good, the accompanying fries were just huge sections of a potato and not very appealing. A disappointing meal.
Lanai has an unbeatable combination of excellent, fresh food well made and beautifully presented, and an informal atmosphere and friendly service.
Though the mahi-mahi in fresh chowder was the highlight of the evening, our appetizers including the baked Brie were delightful, and my locally sourced chicken was moist and flavorful.
Heartily recommended, for a casual and gourmet dining experience.
What a nice surprise to discover this small jewel of a restaurant. Our food was wonderful, as was our server. The fresh squash vegetable entree was amazing and perfect for Fall, even Fall in Kauai.
It’s an excellent outdoor, but covered spot with varied menu and great staff.
We had appetizers and a nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. The Deviled Eggs, Encrusted Brie and the Shrimp and Chorizo. Very tasty and filling. We had reservations so were greeted and sat right away. Our server was pleasant. It’s open air so it was fun to people watch.
Had a wonderful meal! Atmosphere is laid back but food is 5 star! Absolutely delicious!
Service was better then anything else, food decent, price for everything not the best. Altogether ok.
