It’s rare that we back this type of restaurant, but The Lambs Club is Infatuation approved for Pre-Theater Eats and Corporate Card use in Midtown.
After making the reservation on line @ Open Table the restaurant called me a few days in advance to confirm ( customary / no issues ) However, the woman who answered the phone ( who sounded like she was 12 ) couldn't find my reservation after 3 spellings of my name. I've been to the Lambs Club before, the food and service is just ok and only returned because of its convenience to the theater district. Upon arrival, the noise level was through the roof because the conversing patrons were trying to compete with a musical duo playing way too loud for a small room. Maybe the manager was trying to create a " Comandor's Palace " vibe but missed by a mile. Who's ever listening : Train your staff better and inform your customers when you have a " jazz brunch" so they have the option to stay and endure a headache or run away .
Went to The Lambs Club for a pre-theater dinner this past Saturday evening. Food was spot on, service was excellent. Overall great experience!
This is my second time for weekend pretheater lunch. I have the feeling that the service can be hit or miss. This time was more hit. We were promptly seated for our 1130 reservation (Last time we were unpromptly seated 30 mins late for our noon reservation so I planned in extra time) The waiter promptly came over, asking if we were going to see a show and suggested if so that we order soon as the kitchen can get busy. Today the place was only about 1/2 full at its peak. The service was more than attentive.
The food was very good hence this was a return visit although last time we waited for both our table and food. This time, it seemed a little long for our three scoops of sorbet to show up as dessert (The grapefruit sorbet was fantastic)
The price is the typical higher end mid- Manhattan but you get a elegant setting with live music that is a pleasant accompaniment to your meal.
There were two pleasant hostesses but I would suggest taking one of those hostesses away from the front stand and putting an extra person in the kitchen.
Again, I would return but build in extra time because the service can be erratic (as the server said in not so clear terms)
This was my third or fourth visit to the Lambs Club. I'm not into restaurants with a kind of ersatz slickness. The place is trying to channel a bygone era. It just isn't authentic on that score. That being said, the food while not innovative is excellent. I had the duck breast which was cooked perfectly. I thought the orange jus served with the duck was perfect--- light and citrusy without being cloying. I think the server had too many tables. I had a wait before I received a menu and a wait to order. No one asked whether I was going to the theater (which I was). I was in the mood for a scotch but wasn't asked if I wanted a pre-dinner drink and ended up skipping it. I think the service needs to be more organized. This place is perfect for pre-theater given its location. They should realize this in organizing their service.
We are enamored with Geoffrey Zakarian and looked forward to our meal there. The food was very nice, chicken very moist and loaded potatoes decadent. The ambiance is gorgeous, very upscale, and the restrooms well kept. It feels very high brow clubby. The service staff (who deliver meals) were courteous, very friendly, and efficient. We understand there was a Broadway show curtain push, but we were not offered a drink until 15 mnutes after being seated. Our waiter neglected to tell us they were out of the requested wine and served us another without telling us (the sommelier told us once we ordered a second glass, "We have been out of that wine".) There was also some confusion as to what we were served at the bar (Cava) and what was available at the table. The waiter did not know, the sommelier was on top of it - so... for wines and such, always ask for the sommelier. Nice experience when overall is taken into account. We will return to try it a second time.
The “boSS, Mr Z, was the so the staff was on there toes, he gave us a signed menu.
The halibut was outstanding, but the gold speckled cheese cake was over the top.
I keep going back, so that probably says it all!
Went to bar instead of restaurant
Chef too easy with the salt.
I have been to The Lamb's Club before and thought it was absolutely wonderful. We had dinner there on Thursday and, much as I love David Rabin and Geoffrey Zakarian, I was terribly disappointed in the food. We didn't eat much, a Caesar Salad and a beet and goat cheese salad, then a dessert with white espresso icecream and some kind of moulded thing with caramel. Nothing was particularly good and the dessert specifically, was simply sweet, with no character or consideration. The beet salad was insipid and the caesar salad was also characterless. I am assuming a new chef in the kitchen, is all I can think. Sorry.
Every dish that all four members of party had was outstanding
Nice clubby ambience, with dark paneled walls and red leather seating. Salads and entrees of duck and salmon very well prepared but the best thing we ordered turned out to be the side dish of roasted carrots...could have eaten that all night with the delicious complimentary bread.
Best quality food in a classy but comfortable atmosphere ! Definitely going back !
You may think the fish is going to be an old favorite and you are right. Except that at The Lambs Club there is always an update with seasonings, ingredients and combinations of veg, starch. And the old favorite has an update that puts it in another category all by itself. Their pastas elevate your pallet and expectation for every pasta that follows.
I usually try to get to this restaurant when I am in NYC. I think this time I missed the balance in the taste of the vinegarette, usually the acid level is well balanced. This time the acid just over powered my little gem lettuce salad!
Service was a little awkward and on the slow side of things, but the food made up for that. Excellent cauliflower appetizer, oysters on the half shell and four excellent pasta dishes for our main courses. We had a great time overall.
Everything is pure perfection from the creative cuisine to the flawless service. One of the best in a city full of great restaurants.
We went there after a theatre performance so it was about 10pm. We were NEVER rushed . Everyone was happy to take as much time as we wanted to have a cocktail, chat, and then order. The waiter gave us recommendations when we asked and they were spot on. We had the Salmon and Sea Bass and it was excellent. Service was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was very fun and we had a great table . Loved it. Love it even more before theatre or during theatre, but even at 10pm it was excellent on all counts.
When we arrived greeted with smiles. Our server confirmed that we would be attending a show and what time. Along with the menu we were informed that if we were interested in the tasting menu there would be plenty of time to enjoy. Not sure what wine we were interested in, asked if we preferred red or white. We were offered a taste of a couple and decided. We did go with the tasting menu and found to be an excellent decision. The next day we talked about how much we enjoyed. All the staffing were personable and professional. Great place for a date night or just dining.
Sophisticated. Delicious. Great jazz. An oasis in the Theater District. Will surely return.
Amazing service and food. Would go again!
Seated right next to the kitchen. Servers kept running into our chair, lots of noise from the kitchen.
What a pleasant surprise! We were staying at the Chatwal Hotel and were happy to see a Geoffrey Zakarian restaurant. The food was incredible... I had a salad with a beet yogurt sauce - it was a beautiful pink color and the taste was amazing; truffle pasta was equally as good, and my husband enjoyed his dishes as well. Would definitely go back again!
Very good food, but the meal was negatively impacted by a large party seated directly behind us. They pushed their chairs out so that they and the wait staff repeatedly hit my chair and me as I was dining. I finally moved to the side of my table to avoid getting hit.
I was very disappointed that (1) the restaurant staff hadn’t seated this large group in another part of the restaurant where there was lots of space, (2) the wait staff seemed oblivious to the fact that they were hitting my chair every time they hurried past, and (3) when I moved my chair to avoid getting hit anymore, the restaurant staff asked what was wrong, but didn’t take any further action.
Food was good and beautifully prepared. The specialty cocktail did not disappoint and lived up to Zackarian’s reputation. I was a bit disappointed with the duck as it was blue and not medium as I requested I gave it a try anyway and felt I was too many bites into it to send it back. I loved our waiter who was graciousness personified. I would go again and be prepared to be a bit more assertive.
We went here for my Mother in law's birthday. We were up-charged by our jaded bald server. If you see him ask for someone else! He told us we couldn't share dishes because they were "too small to share." So we each ordered entrees only to leave half the food on our plate. I do not appreciate being told what I can order.
I asked twice to get more ice tea only to get an eye roll and nod each time. It was my Mother-in-law's birthday and I had to ask twice for her to get a special dessert with a candle... a dessert that NEVER ARRIVED. So sorry we went there for a special occasion.
I took my family to the Lamb's Club for Easter Breakfast. When we arrived, we were the only patrons in the restaurant. We were promptly seated and our order was taken. The problem was the waiter was not very attentive. The order was either not prepared properly or the waiter entered our order incorrectly. We had to flag down a manager to explain the various things that were not right such as the breakfast order, my daughter had no spoon to eat her parfait, no butter or jam for our toast and no salt and pepper. For a high end establishment who charges high end prices the service was not acceptable. The Manager who helped us out was very nice and apologetic, however, the only time we saw our waiter after he served our food was when he brought our bill. It was a very unsatisfactory experience.
Fabulous service, fabulous food, a true dining experience. It was very intimate and quiet. A great place for a special occasion(we were there for my SO birthday) or a date I would definitely recommend.
We made a reservation, indicating we would be celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary. We drove from Scarsdale, NY to the city for our special date night. We were ushered to probably the worst table in the house in a restaurant that was less than half full. Hoping to enjoy the fireplace (another reason we chose the restaurant) we were told "it doesn't work - it has been out for a while..."). We ordered drinks, me - a dry martini with olives; my husband - a glass of rose champagne. His champagne arrived right away. I waited, and waited, and waited for my drink. Eventually, it arrived and we toasted our anniversary. I should mention that by this point, the pre-theatre crowd was gone and we were one of 3 tables in the whole restaurant. The waiter, who seemed very attentive to others, asked if we were had any questions about the menu and then pointed to the $105 tasting menu saying "this is really good." There was no description of the tasting menu, other than the price. He pointed out on my husband's menu a few items that were included and finished with "rack of lamb." That clinched it for us and we both ordered the Chef's Tasting menu. Food was great, but the "rack of lamb" was simply ONE loin lamb chop! It was barely 2 bites of meat. That was really disappointing. Dessert was tasty, and the small (very small) chocolate specialty dessert that was brought to the table with "Happy Anniversary" on a chocolate shingle was good, but provided us with one forkful each.
The bright light in the evening was the young female sommelier who was knowledgeable and personable.
It was an overall poor experience. I wouldn't go back and I take issue with the descriptions found on Open Table as a "clubby" atmosphere of leather and mahogany. Maybe when the room is full at lunchtime, but on a Saturday night, with a handful of tables occupied, it felt like a nod to a diner from the 50's with impersonal servers who seemed like they didn't really want to be there.
Food was poor, shrimp was tough/over cooked. Food was served cold. Wines by the glasses ridiculously expensive even for NYC. Service was no -existent. When paying for bill was told the internet was down and they hand wrote my credit card info on one of the old Cc slips, and told me they would keep it in a safe place. Everyone had a bad attitude and was rude. I enjoy fine dining , this was not it.
My daughter’s 21st Birthday dinner before going to see Te Lion King. The food was amazing. The waiter was very helpful, patient, and nice. We didn’t feel rushed at all.
Excellent food and we had the Dubai cocktail. Almost died when we got the bill. Have to wear my glasses in the future! Haha. Story to tell.......
Excellent lamb and duck entrees. Juicy and medium rare as ordered. Excellent service.
Lots of red leather in 1930's Art Deco atmosphere,
Excellent food and service.
Nice art deco space for a relaxed business or special occasion lunch-- a little pricey for everyday dining-- But a welcome find in the Times Square area
Very cool art deco furnishings and live music really sets a nice ambiance. Then the brunch menu - sounds fairly ordinary - pancakes, eggs benedict, etc. but the preparations and presentations were so really unique and everything we tasted was excellent. Definitely would go back again.
Outstanding meal! We had a great time. We have eaten at several Iron Chef restaurants in New York, and this was by far the best.
Everything was great!
Loved our experience and Geoffrey Zakarian was on hand and was very nice. Food amazing :-)
The food was delicious. The service was great. Our waiter was attentive and friendly.
A good place to go before a show. I can’t wait to go back!
