The Lakehouse at Geist Ratings and Reviews
Management seems to be an issue. It could be such a great place with the location, but it falls short of just being average due to poor food and multiple things needing to be updated. Unfortunately, they will still make their money from all the boat traffic and not change a thing.
We were seated upon arrival; the receptionist was very friendly. We were originally seated outside but the wind off the reservoir was a little too brisk. The wait staff was very nice and had no problems seating us inside. We were waited on very quickly by Dawn who greeted us with a smile and let us take our time in ordering. Our meal arrived in reasonable time and the salmon and mahi mahi was very good. I felt the price was reasonable for the meal we were serviced.
Dawn was very busy with a large group that came in however she make sure our meal was satisfactory and that we were taken care of. We went to the bar after dinner and were service very quickly and by a very friendly waiter. We watched the basketball games and listened to the band for a short time.
All in all we enjoyed ourselves and look forward to going back when the weather is warmer and we can sit outside.
My wife and I went to the new Lakehouse Geist . We were very impressed with the new theme and how much cleaner everything is. The menu change away from the Italian theme was long overdue and we both loved the new menu. The service was much improved and our entrées were incredible. We were told there is a new general manager named Rachel and she has done an incredible job in a short about of time. We are looking forward to the next round of changes to the outside.
This was our second time trying the new Lakehouse. Ordered a frozen drink from bar. The one blender in the whole place was broken so not available. Food was mediocore. Not horrible, not great. Just sad this location is excellent, but can't get management in here to supply excellent food and the ambiance together. It is convenient for us but nothing to write home about.
The food is no better than it was at Bella Vitas. I believe it might be the same owners? So they didn't switch up the menu much, just the name. The seafood dishes are way overpriced. The pasta is always just so so. We go here occasionally because we like the view of the lake, and so I was excited to see it was a new restaurant. But don't be fooled. If you didn't care for Bella Vita's food, you probably won't care for this food.
We made reservations for 6:15 on Valentine's Tuesday. We arrived at 6:00 and were seated immediately, which was great! The appetizer was prompt and wonderful! Thus the two stars. Three stars were forfeited when we sat for almost an hour-and-a-half without an entree, watching people around us arrive, receive their appetizers, then their meals, and finish everything while we just sat there. The waitress told us at least three times that the meal was only a few minutes away At one point she said that a medium-well steak "takes a minute", as if it was our fault for ordering the wrong thing. When she returned to the table again, we told her, "you have two minutes and then we're walking out." She said the kitchen had assured her the meal (a medium-well ribeye and a rack of lamb) were "three minutes away". We said, "you have two minutes." I have never walked out of a restaurant before, but when two more minutes elapsed, we walked out of this one.
What's worse is that we ordered a special package, the Valentine's Day Dinner. We were willing to pay a bit of a premium for a special experience. So it appears there's a problem not only in the kitchen, but with management as well, for marketing a special package but not prioritizing customers who chose it.
Don't put something on the menu that you can't cook in a timely manner. Or, if mistakes were made, be honest about it. Tell me you screwed up my steak and have to cook another one; I'll wait. But don't keep telling me it's on the way when it's not. We will not be back.
We arrived and were surprised that the Lakehouse was previously Bella Vita. The interior has been updated. During the summer it would be fun to sit out on the patio for dinner and drinks. We happened to go on Valentine's Day but weren't really celebrating that.
I started with a caesar salad. It was a plentiful portion and very tasty. My main course was the Romano Chicken with alfredo pasta. It was AMAZING! The Alfredo sauce was probably the best I've ever had. My husband had the Shrimp PoBoy and enjoyed it but asked for more sauce which made it better. His side was the potato bites and they weren't anything special, just tiny potatoes supposedly deep fried but we didn't think so. My brother in law ordered the salmon and was not happy. He said it was overcooked. My sister in law had the Mahi-Mahi and also was displeased as it too was overcooked. They had started with the Ahi Tuna appetizer and enjoyed that very much.
I wish there had been some bread to sop up the sauce on my meal. My portion was so big that I brought one of the 2 chicken breasts and half the pasta home and had it for lunch the next day. It looks like they will eventually have 12 beers on tap but that wasn't ready yet. The restaurant re-opened on Feb. 1st so I'm sure there will be some more improvements to be made. They had a Valentine's menu but it was $125 for 2 which we thought was overpriced. You did get a bottle of wine, app, main, and dessert but still seemed expensive. The appetizers on the menu sounded good but also seemed expensive. I guess it would depend on the portion size if it were worth it or not.
We will probably go back in the summer to enjoy the water view. Hopefully it will be as good the 2nd time around.
My first time at Bella Vita. Celebrated my 71st birthday with friends. All report their food choices were delicious. Beautiful view of the lake as the sun sat. Staff was friendly and professional. Quiet dining for easy conversation. Dessert choices were excellent. Overall an enjoyable evening. Looking forward to returning.
We requested to sit outside and were told outside seating was unavailable but we could sit in atrium. They then sat multiple tables outside. The atrium was hot (even for a fall) and needs cleaned. There were lots of cobwebs from glass to outside deck. We elected to have brunch and since it's buffet, we did not see our server very often. The food was fair and pretty disappointing. Finally, we had to go to inside bar to request our checks.
I would try it again but perhaps for another meal instead of brunch.
First impression--hostess not very friendly, even a little rude and standoffish. Upon being seated and noticing we did not receive a menu for Northside Nights we asked our waiter if they were participating to which he replied he wasn't sure but he would check. He did bring us a menu for Northside Nights but I feel #1 we should have been given a menu when seated and #2 the wait staff should be made aware the restaurant is participating in the program. There was what appeared to be a bachelorette party...a group of loud young women. Fortunately they left shortly after we arrived. The food, while tasty, was served in very small portions. I'm glad we were participating in Northside Nights; otherwise I would not have felt we got our money's worth. The atmosphere is always enjoyable while dining on the outdoor patio at Bella Vita.
We arrived early and were seated right away. Restaurant was not real busy so service was adequate (after reading some reviews, we weren't sure what to expect). A blues band was setting up to play so we moved to the bar after our delicious dinner and had the best bread pudding dessert we've ever had! The setup of the stage was a bit weird as you couldn't really see the band, but all in all, we will definitely go back, as the food was worth the trip!
We had to wait even though we had a reservation. We asked for a table inside and was lead to a table outside. We then had to wait again for a table inside, even though there were open tables. We waited over 15 minutes for our drink order to be taken and even longer for bread. They ran out of glasses and we were served drinks in paper cups! It was a horrible experience!
The restaurant wasn't nearly as crowded as usual but the service was extremely slow. We were waiting with empty glasses for 15 minutes before we ordered each round. At the outdoor bar I waited for another 15 mins before I received my change and had to ask another bartender to give it to me because my bartender started waiting on others and completely forgot? to give me change from a $20 for one drink. But the food was as good as ever and really hot which was wonderful. I will return for the food and hope that the service will improve.
We go here every month or so, so this was not our first visit, The low rating is THIS VISIT only.
There were 4 of us and one meal did not arrive until after the rest of us were completely finished because of some "mix-up". I was disappointed with all the excuses and the long time to get her correct meal brought out.
Children's menu is very limited (except for pasta), and the hamburger was so undercooked we received a "no-charge" when the manager was called to verify it was not "medium well".
Wine was good as were the selections, but I did not appreciate being handed an electronic tablet to thumb through - higher end restaurants should stick to standard wine lists and servers need to be prepared to know what's available.
My family and I have enjoyed Bella Vita many times in the past but I doubt we will be returning. We had reservations for 6:30 and, after arriving at 6:20, were told we would have an hour to an hour and a half wait for a table inside or outside. The 4 hostesses did not seem to care when we said that was unacceptable. Only after my husband got angry were we seated. We ordered drinks and appetizers and did not receive either until almost 8:00 and then 2 of the drinks were wrong. Had to ask for bread twice and our waitress said the kitchen keeps "running out." Finally, we were served but had to wait 20 minutes for parmesan cheese....at an Italian restaurant?? We asked another waitress but were told we would have to ask our own waitress for it who was nowhere to be seen .Finally, got tired of waiting. We were celebrating a very special anniversary and, next year, I think we will go somewhere else.
Had a great time at Bella Vita. I must say after reading reviews prior to our visit I was concerned, but after my experience I have to feel like many of their poor reviews are coming from someone that is upset with them for other reasons. The service was great and probably had too many people scheduled. Food was great and came to table promptly after salad and appetizer. We had a party of four and we had met at the restaurant and since it began raining we had nowhere to go so stayed at the table for about two 1/2 hours. Our server had no problem and continued to check on us for entire time. One thing I did notice in previous reviews was the mention of people watching, this is very true and there is all kinds to watch. Very fun and happy people.
This was a terrible experience Arrived for our reservation and were overlooked and ignored while they seated several people that came in after us, some with the same or later reservations and some without reservations at all. The hostesses had no experience in dealing with a rush and were flustered and did not appropriately take care of customers. Once we finally got seated our outside seating which we had asked for and they were getting ready for us was given to another table that was taken in front of us in the chaos. There is no ambiance to sit inside. Our server came over and did not introduce herself no welcome us to the restraunt, she acted like she wanted to turn over the table quickly and thrust a drink menu in our faces. Did not tell us about the specials and only wanted to take our order right away. Also she was wearning work out pants which seem inappropriate give the restraunt setting. It was not a special experience at all and we will not go back not recommend to a friend.
Had a reservation and requested outdoor dining in advance. I was told that my wait would be an additional 45 minutes (why have a reservation to begin with?!) We waited at the bar and and were told they womd call our cell phone. After an hour and ten minutes I check with the hostess stand- they completely forgot about us! After we get seated, no napkins or utensils were provided. No specials were provided until prompted. Bottom line, the food is good but service is poor and disorganized. For the price you pay, I expect a higher level of service. I felt like the service was akin to a Steak 'n Shake.
We have eaten here many times, the food is always excellent off the menu. For that reason called twice to make sure we could order off menu for a 2:00 reservation. Both times answer was YES!!!! Disappointed to learn when seated, buffet only. The food was far below our usual expectations for Bella Vita. Costly as well for below average taste. Extremely disappointed!!!!!!!
