The Kitchen | Boulder Ratings and Reviews
Went on a recommendation and it was delicious food. Great setting and ambiance. The wait staff took awhile to come over and didn't really explain the restaurant or that it had an upstairs or bar attached. I think they could have been more informative after we said it's our first time here.
I had read about the mission of The Kitchen and the Next Door restaurants about a year ago, and I made sure to include it on my trip to Colorado. It was every bit as good as advertised. I particularly enjoyed the light color scheme inside, which I felt contributed to a positive, happy lunch environment. The Bolognaise and salad were delicious. My friend let me have a bite of the lamb burger, which was sensational.
One of the long-standing, superior restaurants in Boulder. A diverse menu of creative dishes. Everything we ordered was very good and attractively presented. The service started out very attentive, personal and professional. But as they got busier (we came at 5pm--opening time) very quickly, the service began to suffer--harder to locate our server, less attention to details. Nevertheless, to not dine here from time to time would be punishing yourself--overall the Kitchen is worthy of its fine reputation.
Very disappointing. Recommended by a friend. Ordered a roasted chicken salad which was described as breast and it was just some shredded chicken that you would find in chicken soup and was a mix of breast and dark meat. The order was very skimpy on both the greens and the chicken. Had to ask twice for a refill on bread.
Service was very average at best . One of the parties were there a few minutes prior to the rest and sat around for 10-15 minutes before a waiter came by to ask for a drink order.
Virtually no ambiance in this restaurant.
On a positive side, the fries were excellent.
With the abundance of good restaurants in Boulder, I'm sorry to say that this wasn't a good experience and won't be back.
But the way, this was for lunch, but I don't think I'll be back to check out the dinner menu.
My husbands steak was delicious!! It should be for the $44 dollar price tag. I had a homemade mushroom pasta which was awful!!!! We had oysters that were also delicious, but over all for the price we would not go back. So many other restaurants to chose from.
This is The Kitchen flagship and it remains top-of-the-line even as Kimball Musk expands. Three of us ate a scrumptious small dinner before going to the theater. The service was smooth, charming, and focused on us instead of themselves. Each of us was very pleased with the entre -- one baked accord squash, one pasta dish, and one locally raised pork chop -- all prepared and cooked perfectly. We saw Kimball Musk in the open kitchen looking closely at all the activities. We felt like saluting him but respected his privacy. The wine list is excellent, not a huge selection but very well chosen.
Always a favorite of ours, especially when we have earned bucks from Open Table to spend on extra drinks and food we might not ordinarily try. The grilled bread and mussels are the best tasting I've ever had, anywhere. We added the garlic fries, really delicious. Bubbles & wines, beautifully selected. Entrees and pasta were superb, bread pudding... was crazy sweet, parfait would have been a better choice. But, the 10 yr tawny port made it all perfect. Thank you to the Kitchen for always sharing with us an enchantingly delicious evening.
The Kitchen is clean, fresh, friendly and efficient at preparing delicious food using local ingredients. It's only drawback is the clatter and chatter that reverberates off the natural ceiling and walls. If you grew up going to the school cafeteria you will feel right at home.
Both Kitchen restaurants are good. Pricey but worth it. My husband's chicken was a bit overcooked but the sauce and sides made up for it - sort of. The wait staff is attentive and very knowledgeable and the food is locally sourced and very fresh. My salmon they recommended by cooked medium so I went with their recommendation which turned out medium as they said, but I wished I ordered a tad less cooked. It's a "foodie" experience but as with any restaurant, when they get busy.....
We had heard so much about this restaurant so we were excited to try- none of our dishes were first rate compared to the reputation this restaurant has. Both the chicken and the pasta dish with mushrooms tended to be dry - the mussel appetizer was good- our wait staff was great though-
This was our 4th visit to the Kitchen. We dine here whenever we are in Boulder. Our favorite dish here is the tomato soup---the best tomato soup I've ever had. We asked the waiter if we could get the recipe and 5 minutes later the manager handed me the printed recipe. Evertyhing we ate this visit was excellent---a wonderful pasta with wild mushrooms and chicken in a sauce infused with calabrian chiles.
We will continue to eat at The kitchen whenever we are in Boulder.
We've been to The Kitchen many times and have gone the previous three anniversary celebrations in a row. All of our previous visits have been absolutely stellar experiences and we couldn't rave enough to friends. Sadly, this time was just "meh."
No problem, everyone deserves an off night and we'll be back soon.
