The Kitchen Bistro Ratings and Reviews
It was my father's birthday. We wanted to do brunch. I thought they would do something special. Like say thank you or Happy Birthday. Instead, the confusion and argument lead to a hangry argument and the hostess was extremely rude and didn't apologize for her remarks. She indirectly asked me if "I understood correctly". I work in public relations and I understand the difficulty that takes place over the phone. But confirming it in person would make sense that we would receive brunch at 10:45AM. The hostess explained it that we would get a breakfast brunch for 15 minutes and then switches to lunch for the remaining of the time. I was confused on my part because I said "that's weird for brunch" but delightedly confirmed it.
I would have been more appreciated if she explained that breakfast, lunch and brunch is different. But as far as I knew, brunch was both breakfast and lunch. I guess I have to go back to grade school to understand the meaning of everyday words because she never apologized for the misunderstanding and I thought that was rude from a customer service point of view.
However, one person shouldn't ruin your day. The hostess just had bad etiquette.
We had originally made our reservation for 6.30 on a Thursday evening. It's a good job we checked with the maître'd before hand. There was NO RESERVATION. Open Table did not pass on our reservation. Luckily we were able to get a reservation through the maître'd. The evening and dining were great, but no thanks to Open Table. Next time we'll book direct.
We were very disappointed with our meal ...... again. The theme of the buffet was Around the Globe. The beef Wellington was very well done and tough. The salmon was over cooked. The soup was bland and tasteless. The only reason we went was that we had our granddaughter with us and this was the only restaurant she was allowed in. We won't be going back. Should have gone to WEM's food court instead.
We were greeted immediately on arrival. Our reservation was confirmed and we were seated shortly after arriving. Great, friendly service and the food was amazing. We particularly enjoyed the roast lamb with mint jelly and the New York striploin on this fantastic buffet. Overall, a wonderful experience and we certainly will dine here again!
Great food as always!!! The chefs there are so accommodating to allergies. We love going to River Cree For the dining and atmosphere. We even had our wedding reception there! Chop night on Thursday is wondrfful. The lamb is delicious and the pork ribs were really good.
We went as a family of 5 (3 young children) for my birthday. It was Rib nite and we usually pick kid friendly places where the kids don't have to wait long for food.
From the moment we arrived we were treated like gold. Our server was super nice. When we went to get our food the chef talked to my kids and offered to make them kid friendly food if they wanted anything. So, my kids got a personal basket of fries. He then delivered it to our table and gave them each a mini bottle of ketchup which they thought was awesome. We then had a dessert chef come by and ask the kids if they wanted a tour of the kitchen for a cookie (my 2 and 3 year old got super shy) so she then offered to bring them ice cream.
The food was really good. I was pretty happy with the selection (quality over quantity). The mussels were my favourite and my 3 year old devoured the ribs. I am usually not a fan of buffet desserts but the selection here was amazing! I had to try each one and they were delicious! They had German dark chocolate, lemon macaroons, baked berry crumble, crème brule doughnuts and more.
The price for the buffet was amazing! Our family ate for under $70.
I highly recommend eating here, we saw many families and groups and we were treated so well.
Thanks Kitchen Bistro for making my birthday extra special!!!
the servers could have shown more attention instead of talking to each other , pay attention to the customers.we stood at the roast beef station waiting for service while the staff were discussing who serves who ? the omelet station should have easier to see, you kinda missed it. the shrimp shooters seemed to be a waste of sauce for one shrimp (less sauce or more shrimp) the oven roasted potatoes were very salty , not very much in the starch choices (pasta, rice even fries) for the cost we found the quality not what you would expect $29 a head was a bit pricey for the selection. this was a birthday brunch , not so impressed , we had heard it was really good . won't be going back for sure , sorry but $120 for brunch and not happy with the food was not a great birthday treat .
the server at the table however was very attentive and she was good
We were able to get in right on time, thanks to our reservation. The food was pretty much as we expected, as they have the same rotating menu for each night of the week. (This was "Chops and Ribs Night") It was cooked with care, and well-presented. We will certainly come here again, and recommend it to friends and family.
This restaurant has a different food theme depending on the night of the week. We have been to Thursday night "Ribs and Chops" and Friday night "Grab the Crab" for Alaskan snow crab and the food was great! On Friday, the place was packed but it was worth the wait. I would go and eat earlier next time though, or plan to gamble for an hour while waiting for a table.
I love eating at the Kitchen Bistro at River Cree - they serve a different menu each day of the week so it doesn't get dull. Today was my first visit for "Steak Night", but I must say I wasn't overly impressed with it. There was no way to know how each piece of meat was cooked - better to put mini signs into them stating 'rare', 'medium-well', etc. So a few might go to waste if they weren't cooked right for a certain person. Also, some of the accompaniments were a little bland. But I still love this restaurant, and they have good service, and keep the food as fresh as possible. I give them 1-1/2 thumbs up for this particular visit. Thanks
I booked my reservation online and that was a bit frustrating. We were coming with a mix of adults and children and couldn't book anything at the early dinner hour for a table of 8. I finally booked for just the adults and sent a message kids were attending. Upon arrival I wasn't sure if we would be accommodated or not. Once arriving the staff was amazing... we were seated to accommodate the 9 people. Pretty sure I will never book online again as the personal touch was amazing. we will book again with River Cree just not online as the personal service was what made the experience the best. .
We ate the Prime Night meal with our friends from out of town, we all enjoyed it very much! The Prime rib roast was juicy, fresh and seasoned nicely, and never ending! We all enjoyed the other options such as fish and pork as well. The different salads were also fresh and nice. The desert crepe bar was our favorite as we all went back a couple times each! All in all, great food, excellent service by the staff! I would recommend it and we will go again for a different theme night.
This was a pathetic buffet...hardly any seafood unless wanted to fight with crab legs and cut up your hands doing it. The enter was cheap catfish fried and the rest was pasta based. The cold fish was but one choice...smoked trout..not even smoke salmon there.. A large pole of mussels of which half the shells were empty and those that were there were cooked to death. My goodness..I was embarrassed to have I invited my friends to eat there and had to make a reservations two weeks early for lousy unimaginative food. Further...the tables were mostly empty so why did I have to make a reservation for 5 PM? Spare me...the only good meal I had at the Casino was the Saturday breakfast. I will stick with that...never the dinner again.
Overall experience is very good !!! The service from starting my booking online till we reached the receiption desk and being served is excellent.
I love the seafoods, soup, salad, mussles, deserts, hot foods...yummy yummy. The servers are friendly and helpful. They do greeting customers and always carry their smile on :) even in a busy day. Foods are refilled promptly. I brought my lady at work this time as she has never visited this restaurant even she is living closed to this location. We have a wonderful time there. We always come to this restaurant on our BIG days during the year. Bring friends and family there and have funs. My husband brought his friend there last week, and they have a wonderful time too. Thanks!!!
It was easy getting in compared to the usual Friday night seafood buffet where they don't allow reservations. It was not a busy night so not as noisy as expected. The food choices was good but not as much. We were a company of 9 celebrating a birthday. Most of the company were first timers in Edmonton, having driven all the way from California. I was glad I booked The Kitchen because they were not disappointed with the food. Everything went well.
The only donwside was the request for special something for the birthday celebrant was forgotten. It did not make the occasion special and it felt like it was just an ordinary dining thing. The celebrant was disappointed that her special day was not as special as she wanted it.
When went for the seafood buffet and we found that the choice of food is limited so we filled up on the crab legs. It was always well stocked. The service was OK. It took a long time to get our drinks but our server was there to clear the table of crab shells quite often. We tried the clam chowder soup and it was good and there was plenty of variety for deserts. All in all, if you do not like seafood, particularily crab legs, do not go to the seafood buffet.
Our server, Linda F. was not in a good mood when we arrived... she was being verbally assaulted by the booth next to us. Our server clearly was pushed over the top and we were now her next challenge. Mixed up drink orders, late delivery and ambivalent attitude throughout our meal. I think she was having a tough day overall. We made a booking to celebrate our son's birthday, but everything kinda went sideways. In the past, on a birthday night, our server has presented a small slice of cake to the birthday person, but not this time. Overall, decent food, but not really warm enough. I hope things improve next time.
Not what I expected; we went on the advice of friends, we were told the seafood buffet was excellent.
The crab legs were very small, the mussels were not tasty. The pickled fish was exceedingly dry. The choice of seafood for a seafood buffet was paltry.
At the end of the night we put a $100.00 on red - and won - so the dinner was paid for, which made the night for us.
Most of the visits to the restaurant is good except tonight. The food is cold, refilling will not be done until repeated requests made to the chef and the waitress. The prime rib night used to be so delicious and fresh. Not on this night!
Food selection is less to be desired. Where is the zest for the good food?
I am back on the 14th with a group of friends, food is way better. Why?
NICE SELECTION FOR SIZE OF PLACE, BUSY WITH GUESTS, ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR BUFFET NIGHTS, TASTED GREAT, HAD BEEF AND A FEW OTHER THINGS AS WELL NOT SEAFOOD TO OFFER, OVERALL HAPPY WITH MEAL AND GREAT FRIENDLY SERVICE. WE WILL TRY ANOTHER THEME NIGHT THERE FOR SURE!!
I was disappointed with the quality of food (main dish). The Ribs are a bit warm on one side, and the other side was cold and hard to eat. The Chicken Tendori was dry.
It was not busy evening and when I was trying to get attention one of your server. It seems, she was not paying attention on her surroundings. I was 4 feet away from her and I called her at least 5X, she just pass bye on me and continued cleaning other tables.
Very disappointed with the food. Not too many selections on the salad.
They were only serving turkey on christmas eve which I found it was ok.
It would be great if they also served prime rib.
Some cooked hot items were ok, the beef was too salty.
They dont have much selections on fruits, only pineapple and melon.
Other desert selections like cheese cake and others are good.
This is a Marriott restaurant and I was expecting a 5star restaurant.
Went to the surf and turf buffet Friday night. The only "surf" was peel and eat shrimp, roll mops (pickled herring) , and cold BBQ salmon. No crab legs, no mussels. "Turf" was dried out and tasteless beef tenderloin slices not a carving station. It was an open kitchen and you can see on their work stations the pieces of tenderloin sitting at room temperature and not refrigerated. Quite unappetizing. Had to tell the cook in the back to change out the hot items due to dried out meat that's been sitting out too long. Salad selection and desserts were never replenished or changed out. Not worth the price of 25 bucks.
There is not a great deal of selection, food lately has been dry and bland. We find that they change chefs often, and the quality of the food varies greatly. In general, it is acceptable food for a buffet. The dessert buffet is the best part of the Kitchen buffet. Nothing overly exciting or delicious. It's food. It's edible. It passes for palatable. I would not recommend this to foodies or anyone with a discriminating palate. It's really just okay. If you have kids under 12, it's a great value if you have any big eaters. Their fish is always pretty bland, or overcooked, or both. Their prime rib can be overcooked and a bit dry and touch if you go on those nights.
