Loved the location and the ambience. My friends and I really enjoyed the food.
We all agreed that the food good but menu could improve. We love the setting and ambiance and decor.
Nice location and decor but disappointing experience due to poor food quality and bad service. I ordered pasta bolognese but there was hardly any pasta, just an excessive amount of sauce which by the way was more like a paste. My kids got brown rice as a side but it came out cold and hard. We asked for another side but since they have allergies the options were limited. They had “smashed potatoes” which they said was not like mashed potatoes at all so the kids asked if they could just whip it to make mashed potatoes. The server said that was not possible. I objected and said that I really struggle to understand how a large restaurant would not have a mixer or a whip to make mashed potatoes. The server insisted it was not possible so I had to ask to see the chef. He reluctantly agreed to make it. Overall very poor attitude. I should also say that the restaurant was less than half full so they were not particularly busy
Wonderful! Great fresh food. And the team is friendly.
Food was very good. Great view of the river. Our server was a little distant. He didn’t check in with us about our food during the meal.
Beautiful restaurant with amazing view. Waitstaff are really friendly! Food is great!
Great ambience. A good place for all occasions. Went for brunch on Sat. We all enjoyed the food. One disappointment was that there was not a lot of gluten free options.
Love the style of this restaurant and the waitress that we had was very accomodating. We were celebrating a birthday and the guest of honor felt very special. The bottomless Mimosas really topped off her celebration!! We will be back!
Love this place. Atmosphere, food, view, service, convenience. It’s got it all.
Service was very poor, server didn't come back at all for drink refills didn't check on us after meals delivered and getting check to pay was very slow.
Visiting Chicago again, we wanted to return to The Kitchen, as we had a terrific time back in March. The Server, she was very officious, just not into being friendly. We found the music very loud, to the point it was annoying. Food was very good as it was last time. Would I go back a 3rd time ? No, probably not. Because I just didn’t find it welcoming, like our first time.
Food and service were great! We arrived slightly early for our reservation at opening time and they let us right in. The homemade maple doughnut was incredible and mushroom toast- very good. We were not rushed and were able to plan the rest of our day after enjoying our meal. It was neat to see the bridges open for sailboats while were were sitting there too.
Had heard about this restaurant for quite some time and was excited about my first visit. Huge disappointment. Food was average at best and way over priced. The restaurant itself was nice, great casual place to sit with friends and have a bite. Unfortunately a $300(pre-tip) food bill for 4 was not in line with what we ate. Off my list
Great food & location
Birthday celebration- good food and service
Always a great experience at The Kitchen. A very good go to spot that never disappoints. Great food, great service, and good atmosphere. Not too loud, good for conversation.
Great experience! Food was really good, service was outstanding, and for a city like Chicago, prices are pretty reasonable. Would definitely dine there again.
While visiting Chicago we had dinner at The Kitchen. The ambiance was nice, and the service was very good. With the exception of the brussels sprouts (they were pretty raw), the food was delicious, flavorful and well prepared. We would definitely dine there again.
I have dined here several times and enjoy the atmosphere and the location along the river! I enjoy their brunch and dinner selections. The service is always good. No complaints.
limit choice for brunch
This restaurant is a good option in the area—pretty location on the river. People were taking photos on the bridge outside. The food is not especially original but it builds on current trends and should have something for everyone. We focused on small plates and tried hummus, beet and pistachio salad, fish tacos (in lettuce), lamb meatballs In tomato sauce and hush puppies with (minimal) shrimp inside. All were good, although I missed reading that the fish in the tacos was breaded, not
my preference. Cost added up with two drinks each,a shared dessert and coffee. Overall a pleasant stop, and I would go back. It’s a good place to book for a group of 6-10, based on the layout.
Excellent service and the food was outstanding. Fresh ingredients and lots of variety of food options to try! We had a wonderful server Q. They were a great conversationalist and checked in continually to ensure our experience was a positive one and it was! A beautiful space and sitting right beside the river just topped off the night! For anyone in Chicago or visiting, this restaurant should be added to your repertoire! Thanks Kitchen American Bistro for a tasty and memorable evening!
We were there on Sunday evening after the marathon for a birthday dinner. The server was clearly overwhelmed with other tables. It took 15 minutes for her to take a cocktail order. The slow service continued throughout the evening. We tried to order three items that they had already sold out (chicken, Brussel sprouts and Pino Gris). This is truly disappointing for basic and popular items like these. We ordered the lamb meatballs and shrimp hush puppies as appetizers for the table. The meatballs were small and overcooked, but the sauce saved the dish. The hush puppies had very little flavor as well. I would not recommend either dish. For sides we ordered grits and bok choy. Both were very good! The striped bass and salmon were also just ok. The ambiance was very nice and the view is fantastic. Based on our experience here, there are far better restaurants in Chicago and therefore will not return to The Kitchen.
We were visiting Chicago and actually ate here 2 nights in a row, it was very good. The food was very good and many gluten free options which we look for. Highly recommend the kitchen!
Our food was delicious. My husband had the mushroom toast and loved the blend of flavors. I had the poached eggs which come in a shakshuka sauce that adds a nice pop to the eggs. Our sever was Ryan and he did a nice job, there when we needed him, but not overbearing.
Se come rico, el servicio no es muy bueno. El lugar esta padre
If you don't like your Bloody Mary spicy, tell them no spice! Medium-spicy was too spicy!
We came in with a child and the staff accommodated is very nicely.
Very nice, if overpriced, restaurant, but I find it inexcusable that they won’t offer bread as an accompaniment!
I love the ambience chewy & lacked flavor. Lamb meatballs were mediocre. Burger was good, not great, & the fries were flavorless & greasy. I left disappointed. Cocktails were good.
Food is consistently good but have encountered the same hostess twice now who seems utterly exasperated with incoming diners. Also were seated at high-top when specifically reserved normal table. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Nice place to eat on the riverwalk , wonderful food , but The service was so quick !! We didn t have time to finish our appetizers that the entrees arrived !!
The restaurant kindly gave us a quieter table. The food was good, but the service lacking. One entree didn't come until much later and we were served cold coffee.
Overall a great experience as always. The server this time was new to me but was a little aggressive in ordering which almost felt a little awkward hence the decrease in overall one star this time.
Other than than food, ambiance and drinks were great as always.
Very comfortable place- had a window by the river, waiter was super attentive and knowledgeable - everything was fresh and local - menu was imaginative without being too crazy! Just a perfect evening
Absolutely outstanding! My bridal party and I went to lunch the day before the wedding. The service was excellent and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. We were amazed by the variety of flavors and food combinations that were unique to the restaurant. Can’t wait to bring back my husband!
Amazing food, great service but very loud inside. I had the roasted chicken and it was amazing, My associate had the shrimp hush puppies and they were to die for! The lamb meatballs are very good as well but the hush puppies were the BEST.
Friend send off.
Great service, food was excellent, a fun place! Drinks are delicious with a modern yet old world flair!
The mushroom sandwich is absolutely delicious! Fish tacos were also a hit!
