The King's Kitchen
Whether you sit down to a heaping plate of Aunt Beaut’s pan fried chicken or opt for our Chef’s pick of fresh fish daily, know that here, our cuisine extends well beyond delicious: it is truly good for the soul.
Located in the heart of uptown Charlotte with a mission of bringing hope to those most in need, King’s Kitchen is a non-profit, southern-inspired restaurant that doubles as a ministry to give hope, dignity and a warm meal to those most in need. Dine well knowing that each meal purchased directly contributes to a free meal to our homeless neighbors as well as job training to give others a new lease on life.
The food was not what we would have expected. It was also being remodeled inside so it didn't look great. We also were unaware they only served beer and wine while we were out for a friend's birthday. Service was just okay. Probably won't be going back.
The food was fantastic and the service was great. I love their mission and will definitely return. Highly recommend!
The food was too good! My husband and I both ate way more than we needed to or should have. The veggies were amazing as were the oysters and pimento cheese. Definitely worth a visit!
Absolutely amazing dinner. The food was some of the best I have ever eaten!
The King's Kitchen was a last minute find when the intended restaurant me and friends were headed to was packed on a Saturday night. But it was the best place we could've picked! It was southern cuisine with an upscale flare. And with a picky eater in our group, it was nice to impress them with the options. We had the salmon dish with collard greens, the scallops with mac and cheese, and the fried chicken plate with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, and mac and cheese. Everything was absolutely amazing! The service was also impeccable. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu, and made a lot of recommendations, and the food arrived fairly quickly considering what we ordered. And if you like an adult bevie, the wine selection was pretty expansive. It was just an overall great dining experience!!! Would highly suggest for anyone living or visiting the city!
Very nice hidden gem. First time eating there. Nice service. Very personable and friendly. Food is excellent. One of the best burgers ever. Scallops were very tasty and tender. Danninelo was very nice. Price is right.
Dining experience was not great at all. Restaurant was under renovation with plastic screens. We were not notified about this during booking. The tables were sticky and dirty when we were seated. Not a great experience at all, would not recommend.
Let me start with the fact that our server was both very kind and understanding. That's the only positive thing I have to say about my time here. They were out of quite a few things and our biscuits were over cooked. The pot roast was chewy and the black eye peas were flavorless. I still don't understand how a grilled salmon came with no sides but fried catfish does. The prices were just not comparable to the portion sizes and our fries were undercooked. We had a reservation so it's not like we came last minute. This was a pretty bad first impression I'll be honest. Im sorry but it was unacceptable. The only reason I left the tip I did was because it was not our waitress' fault. Oh and it was extremely loud, couldn't hear what someone directly in front of you even said.
Excellent food and great service. I enjoyed the crab dip and shrimp and grits. I will be back!
I love supporting The King’s Kitchen because of all they do for others, and the FOOD is sooo good! We had pot roast and fried chicken along with some delicious southern sides.
Quality southern food. The deviled eggs were the best we’ve ever had. Look around the construction outside to find the entrance.
Great food and excellent mission. Todd beer and drink list as well. A little difficult to spot and get to due to current street construction but plenty of close parking. Will return.
It was just ok. Our server was on top of everything but not very friendly. Food was ok. My husband did like the gumbo though.
Food and service was excellent. Our server was super sweet and gracious but could have used another shift of two in training. We were a bit shocked by the depth of the construction all around the restaurant and even from the inside. Management should alert diners when making a reservation for full transparency
They were so quick and nice and the food was incredible!!!
This is a special place with a beautiful mission. The best traditional Southern food I’ve ever had- it’s not my favorite cuisine but The King’s Kitchen is an exception to the rule!! Service is always outstanding and really caring. A must try in Charlotte!
A wonderful restaurant. We love the food, service and mission of this business.
The food here was excellent. There is heavy construction outside this restaurant right now which heavily affects the ambience and noise. Service was good. Not great to the point that you notice but not bad in any way.
The southern cuisine cooked with care and fine dining tastes did not disappoint my brother, his wife and my other brother. The dinner was an early Christmas celebration. Thank you King’s Kitchen for the memories.
Visiting from California and several people told us we needed to eat at Kings Kitchen. So glad we did as the food was wonderful and the staff was accommodating.
The fried chicken and catfish were great as well as the sides of cabbage, collard greens, green beans, and macaroni and cheese!
Absolutely phenomenal as always ! The people working there so pleasant and accommodating. The food is fantastic!
We had dinner on a Friday night, busy but not completely full. Food was very good, pot roast was delicious, mushrooms for the table and crab dip were also great. Service was also very good. Nice to be able to support a business that is dedicated to helping the community.
Was just ok. The menu is very small and they were out of a couple of sides the night we were there.
My husband and I were in town visiting family for Thanksgiving, and needed a light meal after the heavy carbs of the holiday! So we took a gander and tried The King’s Kitchen. We shared a kale salad with salmon and some roasted root vegetables. Great flavors, great service, comfy surroundings. My one critique is that $20 for a single piece of salmon to go on the side of our salad was a bit overkill!
Please use Much less or no MSG in your food. I had a terrible headache from the MSG in the food you serve.
Food was excellent. Wine selection very good also.
I loved the idea and mission of this restaurant. But I think there is some room for improvement on the restaurant side. A $20 entrée should definitely come with at least one side dish I think. The waiter was pleasant but Not enthusiastic. My husband did really like the collard greens however!
This was our first visit and we definitely enjoyed our dinner very much! Our waiter Will was very helpful in his recommendations...he explained that the sides are really the star. And they were, but the wine was very good, the coffee was awesome, and our entrees were delicious!! I got the pork chop...it was cooked perfectly to medium as I ordered...nicely browned on the exterior, and juicy i the middle. My wife ordered the pot roast...it was very tender but not cooked to mush. All of the sides were cooked to perfection...very clean tasting, and my wife said her cole slaw was the best she's ever had in a restaurant. The mashed potatoes were so creamy but not heavy, and the beans and peas were well cooked but not overcooked. The prices are very reasonable, the staff was friendly and attentive but not intrusive...definitely a wonderful dinner out!! We will certainly be going back, probably to try the fried chicken on our next visit. Thank you to Will and the staff there for a surprisingly lovely dinner before the show at Booth Playhouse. The only minor opportunity for improvement is for the construction on the street and exterior of the restaurant to be completed...it was a little messy getting there since it was a rainy evening, and it was a bit drafty at our table because of construction to the exterior of the building. but that will not deter us from going to the King's Kitchen again when we are in uptown Charlotte!!
Stopped in for an early dinner on Saturday night. The staff was attentive, and the menu was nicely designed. Would easily recommend The King's Kitchen.
excellent food and service
While food tasted amazing, portions were small. $20 for a small grilled salmon with no sides is a bit much
The concept is wonderful, and the food was very good. It was Southern, with an uptown ambiance, and very close to the Mint Museum and Knight's Theater.
We are from Carolina Beach and this is our second time visiting. Both times have been amazing!! We will be back!!
The Fried Chicken Sandwich and mac and cheese is so awesome!! Nice and quiet for Anniversaries
The food is consistently southern and tasty. The service is good and you’re supporting a good cause while indulging in some southern delights.
Wonderful food and positive environment
Love Kings Kitchen, food is delicious! One of our favorites.
Food was amazing and the service was outstanding! Love their mission. We will definitely go back our next trip to Charlotte.
The service, the case and food were all exceptional. This was my first visit to the Kings Kitchen and Charlotte.
