The King's Kitchen
Whether you sit down to a heaping plate of Aunt Beaut’s pan fried chicken or opt for our Chef’s pick of fresh fish daily, know that here, our cuisine extends well beyond delicious: it is truly good for the soul.
Located in the heart of uptown Charlotte with a mission of bringing hope to those most in need, King’s Kitchen is a non-profit, southern-inspired restaurant that doubles as a ministry to give hope, dignity and a warm meal to those most in need. Dine well knowing that each meal purchased directly contributes to a free meal to our homeless neighbors as well as job training to give others a new lease on life.
Had dinner with another couple before a show and had wanted to try this place for a while. The staff was great, every person we passed or interacted with was pleasant and eager to help. Waiter was very good. Food was very tasty, served fresh and hot and priced well considering. The only problem we had was the noise level with lots of people having conversations in a large open space. Overall the location is very convenient for uptown dining, the food was very good and it all funds a very worthy cause. We will definitely be back!
Service was outstanding. Wine was great. Disappointed in the food. My daughter and I got the fried chicken with collards. The collards were tough and obviously had sugar added to them. Cornbread also had sugar so more like a corm muffin that southern cornbread. My other daughter did get the pot roast and evidently it was delicious because she cleaned her plate. I would return and try something different before marking it off my places to eat.
It was a wonderful dining experience from the food to the staff to the service. I love the fact that the profits go to help others. I’ll dine with you again, if I’m ever back in Charlotte. God bless!
Two of our guests ordered the special scallops. They received only (5) small scallops for $20. They had to order a salad to complete the meal for a total of $28. The portion was extremely small for the price. Besides this, the food was good.
Great service and food, as usual.
Great food with lots of flavor. All the profits go to local charities in Charlotte. So eating great food and making a difference in town.
Best meal we had in Charlotte! Friendly service and delicious meal! You could taste the fresh ingredients and it was out hot and fast. Selection on menu was great. Delicious southern comfort food full of flavor!!Restaurant is casual, but nice enough to dress up if you want.Be sure to read their story online.A must if you are in Charlotte downtown! We can't wait to come back to Charlotte to visit again.
Great food with a great staff and supports a great cause!
Always good. Period. If you haven't eaten here, you are missing out!!
I went to the King's Kitchen for a lunch meeting. I really liked the restaurant. There were plenty of seating options (it was too hot to sit outside). And, there's a nice open feel about the place. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We all enjoyed our food as well (everything looked and tasted great). The portions could be bigger but you do not leave still hungry. Plus, if you order dessert (we didn't have time) the portions probably work out fine. I will definitely be back!
Kings Kitchen was an incredible experience. The service was top-notch. The food was incredible. Their mission however is what put them over the top. We will absolutely be back anytime we are near Charlotte!
Traveled from FL to NC to celebrate my 58th birthday with family; researched and found this restaurant. I chose it based on its mission and the menu. What a wonderful experience to be at a place where love and opportunity is poured out to those in need. Thank you! T. Pacheco
Excellent food! Our waiter was Will and he was great! My only call out would be they bring out food all at one time, other than that, a wonderful meal for a wonderful cause!
Fabulous way to spend an evening with family. Our food was delicious! Will definitely be back—there’s more on the menu I want (need?) to try!
We met at just about 645 for a quick dinner to walk to the Knight Theatre for 8 PM Show, had a great evening, great service and wonderful food. Thanks. Was a great start to a super evening.
My hard to please significant other loved his food !
Food was okay..some was really good. Love the mission and values
Fantastic food and service! Great mission oriented restaurant!
Great food and atmosphere. Our server was friendly and conserves were extremely attentive. Cute spot for a date night.
Great service, both friendly and informative!! Food was delicious!!!
*EDIT - After receiving a kind note from the restaurant the day after this review was posted, we have decided we will give The King's Kitchen another shot. They do good work for our city and the food was good. Hopefully our second time will be a different experience. Self-introspection in this world is rare, and we will respond with grace.*
We were *surprisingly* disappointed. I had hoped, from the reviews, that it would be mind-blowing but we were underwhelmed. First, while the host who seated us was kind enough, our server wasn't very friendly at all. She barely spoke, never really said hello/welcome... only introduced herself by her name and then stood there waiting for us to order drinks. Each time she came to the table it was as though she didn't really want to. While we liked and were excited by the menu, it was the serving size that disappointed us the most. We will pay good money for food, but we have paid less for a lot more.If I'm paying $20 for a piece of salmon and *nothing else* (no side included), it had better be bigger than my palm. And my Shrimp and Grits at $19 had better come with more than 4 medium size shrimp and few grits. Being that it's a non-profit endeavor, the only way I can see that they're not making one is because of their address. The service was very slow at the end when we were trying to 1) get to a bathroom because theirs is closed for now) and 2) trying to get to our show at the Belk. We ordered a scoop each of Gelato for dessert and it took over 10 minutes to get it. It was too cold to shovel down so we had to leave most of it behind. I usually have very little negative to say about establishments but to say I'm just really, really disappointed is the best I can.
I went to The King's Kitchen with two friends because I love their mission and figured as long as I was eating out I might as well do some good. It turns out other fabulous reasons to go are the excellent food and friendly, fast service. We shared three different dishes and all were fantastic. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Great food and great customer service. Will definitely be returning
Great meal as always, waitress was attentive, but traveling the construction labyrinth to use the bathroom was slightly inconvenient. Still love this place and can’t wait to comeback.
The food is outstanding! Love the mission and the service. Also, they were very fast. The only downside is that seafood like salmon and scallops are served al la carte and not as an entree.
Swordfish was awesome with heirloom tomatoes! So tasty. Service was friendly and professional.
It was a bit loud (no solution to that based on the open design). But they were busy and busy is GOOD! Plus it was chilly, but I do get cold easily 😜
Enjoyed our evening very much.
The food was amazing and the mission even better!
Just wonderful food and service which I have come to expect at Kings Kitchen! Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Uptown Charlotte.
The specials were so overpriced. Presentation and dining experience are absent at this place. The food was good but not outstanding in any way.
The food was extraordinary and the veggies delicious!
I do often! I love this restaurant and it’s mission and I’m glad to support it.
Waitress was extremely unfriendly. We all left hungry after having dinner. Very expensive for the lack of food you get. Would not recommend.
Business lunch - the server was very helpful in explaining the dishes and half dishes. The food was wonderful. Everything was very nice. The only complaint from my business companions was that it was a little too loud to have a business conversation.
We love this place. The food and service is phenomenal!
I only put noise level medium we sat outside on Friday night. At some points yelling or kids breezing by on scooters. Its a busy intersection. The food still main attraction.
The grilled porkchop was amazing and the fried chicken was also good.
Menu is short. Options are limited. It's southern food, pretty purely, so don't go if you're hoping for something else. The wine list was surprisingly OK. The food was good. We had pot roast, vegetables, & dessert. The vegetable "sides" are OK but nothing special. The pot roast was good & a generous cut. The desserts were good but a bit over-the-top, & too generous while not A+ or 4-star quality. Atmosphere was fine, pleasant, urban, typical Saturday night urban restaurant. Service was excellent. Food arrived at table about the fastest we've ever seen! We were in & out in less than an hour including wine & dessert.
Great place! It is a little loud, but the food is worth it. Awesome meal - and the best coconut cake in the South!
While the service was good and the atmosphere nice, the food is subpar. Not only were items posted on their website not available, the selections given were limited. Also, when the food arrived at our table (which was fairly quick), it was either cold or lukewarm. Unfortunately, one meal had to be changed and substituted for something else as the meat was cold, dry, and unseasoned. Overall, we had a good time because we were in good company, but I, unfortunately, would not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good southern-style cuisine.
You walk in and the aroma of good food fills your sinuses and you want to try everything.
