The Kings Arms at Strete
We pride ourselves on our crowd pleasing food favourites menu, the best local beers, and a range of events, daytime and evening, to keep everyone amused and entertained. And then there's the view. Sometimes we just sit there, drink in hand, and look out over those fields to the ocean beyond and thank our lucky stars this is where we live.
We hope you can share in that feeling.

The view from the garden is something else! Really stunning place to eat / drink. That’s pretty much where the positives end I’m afraid. We stopped here for an early dinner, which was around £12.50 per dish. 3 adults & 1 child - We each had a drink and with food, the bill totted up to £61.80
The food took a while to come out which didn’t matter to us as the play area kept the little one busy and the views kept us entertained. We arrived around the same time as a big table and another family, so service was prob a little slow as a result of the number of dishes being prepared at the same time.
We ordered the chicken burger, beef burger, goats cheese salad and a kids chicken fillets. Would have been nice to see some salad or slaw on the side with the burgers but everything was freshly prepared.
The issues we had were due to the kitchen obviously running out of ingredients which didn’t seem to be communicated to the bar staff. This resulted in the food being served up not matching up to what was on the menu and what we thought we’d get, the biggest change was for the kids meal which as above, we ordered chicken but got fish, not an issue for our little one - but to not be told you’re getting a completely different dish could present issues for those with allergies.
Overall the experience was a pleasant one but had it not been for the lovely views, we probably would have been more disappointed with the food issues.
Felt clean, spacious and welcoming. Food good and well presented. Service friendly and efficient. Easy parking. Lovely views from the well kept garden.
The pub wasn’t serving any food. I booked for no reason and traveled some distance to get there.
We all very much enjoyed the beer festival - the beer/cider were excellent, the snacks imaginative and the service fantastic - a very successful event.
Lovely food perfect service and a stunning view, can’t ask for more
Staff were super friendly, great food, stunning view.
Another delicious barbecue, with other options.
Nigel and the staff. Thank you.
Super little pub, lovely service and tasty food, great views, what more could you ask!
Splendid, friendly community-run pub which deserves everyone's support.
It was my birthday, lovely place overall, menu choice could be better, quite expensive for what you get.
Guest Chef evening was fantastic!
Best food around.
Great food and indoor dining with most tables having a view over the bay. Good choice was great the everyone enjoyed their main and dessert. Staff were very friendly. Service only gave 4 stars as due to staff shortages (everywhere at present) was slow. Garden looks lovely too. Used the car park just after the pub travelling from Dartmouth.
Lovely food and great service. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and attentive. Will defo return
Lovely location with super views. Good food and excellent staff. Would recommend.
My party arrived 7.45 PM,after a long journey,we were shown to our table by a pleasant you lady ,
We were then shown the menu with 4 starters and 4 main courses,we were then informed the cheese burgers were finished, there was 1 steak left and the only item left was veggie burgers.
The whole experience was a total and utter disgrace .this establishment is a joke,a very bad joke,
We left after speaking to the manager who said she had just been informed of the problem.
Running a restaurant is a large step too far for her.
Will never be back ,and recommend others not to either
Lovely village community pub. Friendly, attentive service. Sple menu - 4/5 starters and 4/5 mains including vegan, fish, chicken and steak. Great chips too! Bonus for us was being able to take our dogs in - sat in area just away from main restaurant which was fine.
Lovely food, great service and fabulous views. Well worth a visit.
Wonderful Pub with views to die for ..... unfortunately totally let down by the over exuberance of one foul mouthed local?
Didn't eat on this occasion as Kitcken was closed, had booked to return following evening but that was promptly cancelled on above experience.
Wish the community well with their venture but these visitors won't be back!
With amazing views and the friendliest staff, the Kings Arms in Streete, not far from Dartmouth, is a hidden gem.
From the minute you walk in through the doors the staff cant do enough for you. Theres a good choice of beers and ciders. The white wine was served at the perfect temperature. Whilst there isnt a huge choice of food we all enjoyed our seafood platter and pasties.
Just wonderful to be eating there again - congratulations to all concerned. A wonderful warm welcome complimented the excellent food and drink
Thank you Ann. Pleased you approve of what we are working hard to achieve here in Strete. Nigel
Lovely very tasty lunchtime crab sandwiches for both myself and my wife with salad and French fries. Very friendly staff. Stunning sea view from our table. This pub has been purchased by the local people in the village of The Street to stop it from closing. Great paintings on the walls by local artists. Best wishes for the future of The Kings Arms. In The Street.
Lovely country pub run by the community. Summer of the staff were local volunteers. They were attentive and friendly. Brilliant!
Pasty was the best. Great value. Good fries too. Lovely pint of Otter
We loved dining at the kings Arms. The staff were so helpful and the setting and views are wonderful. Our sharing platters were delicious and good value and went down well with a glass or two of Pimm’s and Lemonade. Will definitely return and recommend such to anyone. Is great to know such is run by and helping the community.
The menu was only sandwiches and prepared pasties because they didn't have any kitchen help. "Volunteers" made our lunch. Every single one of our £9 crab sandwiches was on dry granary bread the was cut too thin and fell apart when trying to eat it. "Salad" was just a small slice of tomato on mixed greens, with a splash of balsamic. The "Coke" didn't taste like Coke and we weren't offered half pints, so my children got pints, which was too much. Paper napkins were thin and held together with a sticker, which shredded them when trying to remove them from cutlery. Chips were OK, but asking for 5 packets of ketchup was met with disdain. £70 for a family of 5 was too much. Mentioned all of this to the wait staff and got "sorry".
Hi Jody, sounds like we got everything wrong for you. I can only apologise. I remember your sandwiches leaving the kitchen and since it's my job to assure consistent quality, I failed and by the time I learned of your concerns, you had left. Please get in touch for a full refund or a much improved repeat performance on the house. Nigel (Chef of the Day and Director of Strete Community Pub Limited)
Sat outside looking at the wonderful view. We had mussels to start followed by a seafood platter and my husband had a meat platter with skinny fries. The food was excellent. The wine was good. All the staff who served us were very friendly and nice.
Excellent pub, lovely staff and a very pleasant atmosphere. Would recommend.
The staff were very friendly and the view from our table was spectacular. There was a limited menu but what we did have was nicely presented and tasty.
Would definitely recommend and return.
A lovely pub with friendly staff and a nice beer garden
Brilliant little pub, with unbelievable views over the bay. Well worth visiting if you're visiting Strete Gate Slapton or Torcross beaches. It's right on the road in the centre of Strete, car parking also available.
Wonderful back garden area with lovely views. Food was delicious (try the seafood ploughmans!). Friendly atmosphere and staff. Parking just down the street. A++
Lovely gentleman and lady greeted us with a high passion for the restaurant. Good quality food and service.
Really good food and service at a lovely pub garden.
Great vegan burger and fries. Kids loved the play area.
Lovely Sunday ploughman's shame it was windy will remember a blanket next time
The staff are coping amazingly well with the difficult circumstances. The food was delicious and the drinks exactly as ordered served efficiently and with a smile despite the problems of everything having to be outside in a bitter wind. We will be visiting again as soon as we are in the area again.
Wonderful views from the garden, really friendly and efficient team. Delicious lunch.
Well done, we will be back soon.
Thank you so much for making our first meal out one to remember. The food, setting and little play area were all wonderful but most of all the staff who went completely out of their way to make it a great experience for all!
Although I can only dine outside due to covid restrictions , a little chilly..that night...
