The Kennison Ratings and Reviews
Service is outstanding. We were at a table for two and there was a lot of noise by us. Manager came by and offered to move us. After we were moved to a quiet area, we were a bit cold, so he raised to temperature to make us more comfortable. We ordered the twofer menu. I loved the Faro salad and my fish was okay, but my partner loved his chicken. Overall, very nice.
The waiter was friendly and enthusiastic. The soup was barely tepid and had to be sent back. The salads, especially the farro salad, were large and good. My salmon was overdone and despite a savory broth, pretty tasteless. The meatballs were good but the preciously presented chicken wasn’t particularly tasty. The waiter offered to give us a comped dessert to make up for the general lack but we had run out of time. The location is good for visiting the zoo, history museum and conservatory.
We were seated 20 minutes before a waiter stopped by. Then they forgot to enter some of the dishes that were ordered.....which finally arrived after the dinner was complete. The General Manager was professional and kept apologizing but the mistakes kept happening. Very disappointed....Boca group is usually better
The food was marginal at best. Even though there were less than 10 tables, the food took forever. I think we waited almost 30 -40 minutes. On the plus side, the waiter, food runner, water person, and busboy were very attentive, professional, and customer service friendly
Server was sub par and so was the food. The fish and chips was rubbery. Burgers were descent but the waitress asked if we “want pink or no pink” for the burger temperature. She said it’s too thin to specify medium or medium rare or well. It was a thick burger maybe 1/3 lb so not sure why she said that. We also ordered a side of brussel sprouts that we needed to remind the waitress after our food arrived and she blamed the kitchen. She also blamed the bartender when someones drink never arrived.
Our third time eating at The Kennison and keeps getting better! Have had the short ribs (no longer on the menu), white fish and most recently the chicken. All were terrific and the chicken was fabulous and different. The risotto and brussel sprouts are always outstanding. Make sure to visit the J Parker bar on the roof for drinks before or after your meal. View is the best and with the holiday lights at the Lincoln Park Zoo it is spectacular
Perennial Virant was a favorite brunch spot and I'm so glad the Kennison has not only measured up, but was also an upgrade. I have yet to come here for dinner, but if brunch was any indication of the food, I will definitely be back. I ordered the biscuits and gravy which were delicious, my friends ordered the ham and cheese biscuits and the french toast, both of which were extremely tasty as well. We started with the coffee cake which was a perfect sweet compliment to the savoriness of my meal. Jeffery was our server and he did a fantastic job with recommendations and attentiveness. In fact all of their staff was incredibly attentive. This is most certainly my new go to brunch spot and I can't wait to try them at dinner time!
Really disappointing particularly since it replaced a great restaurant (Perennial Virant)
Burrata was way overpriced and flavors did not work together- it had the poorest quality prosciutto I have ever tasted. Pastrami carrots were a good concept , but did not quite work and ultimately you are left with a dinner that is over 90% carrots. Pork collar was full of gristle and neither the Pork, the collard greens or polenta had much flavor. They have an understanding of food allergies but not particularly accommodating- leaving out ingredients without replacing them makes for mediocre dining. If you are staying at the hotel and it is cold and rainy, you can get something to eat , but I certainly would not make any effort to dine there again.
I was at Kennison the first week they opened and loved it then but we had an even better meal/experience last night. They added some new menu items (a new pasta our group loved), increased portion sizes, while keeping some of my personal favorites just as they were (mussels; you have to dip the bread they give you into the broth at the bottom and chicken entree are the best). Can’t wait to go back
Fabulous dining experience. Food terrific as well as service. Had a new seasonal special the white fish which was prepared different than other restaurants, risotto which was fabulous. In the past I had the short rips and their carrot dish which has a pastrami flavor! Can highly recommend this very comfortable restaurant.
Loved the atmosphere and vibe. The bar was a bit crowded but the service was outstanding! Excellent suggestions for both cocktails and food. Really enjoyed what I ordered and will definitely go back for drinks with friends and dinner. Can't wait to go back.
