Consistently great dining experience
Great food and service. Waitress was very pleasant and helpful with food choices.
Great time and great staff and wonderful food selections
Service was lagging and it wasn’t that busy until later in the evening. Having to wait for drinks and the lag between entree and dessert was too long.
Good comfort food. Nice atmosphere. Carsar salad not so great- bland and overdressed Chicken and desserts delicious.
I was there for brunch with my wife and a couple of friends.
The location is lovely, and so the ambiance: I liked the retro decor and the big windows that let plenty of light in.
Three of us had Eggs Benedict and one the Breakfast your way (omelette, toast, and sausage). They were all a reinterpretation of the classic breakfast dishes (Egg Benedict, for example, were served on corn bread, rather than the classic english muffins and had American prosciutto instead of the Canadian Bacon.
Quality of ingredients was good, and portions were on the smaller side, which is something I actually appreciate. I am not sure I liked the corn bread replacement, but that could be just my taste.
All in all, I think it is a cute restaurant in a very nice location that is worth a try. I will definitely try it for dinner sometimes soon!
We came in for apps & drinks before an event. Our server was spot on with his recommendations and we never felt rushed. The pasta with foie gras butter was the BEST! I can't wait to come back to try more entrees and desserts.
The food was good, but our service was pretty bad. We only saw our server to order our food, deliver it, and pay our bill. We had to flag down other staff three times for refills, etc
Great service staff.
Our dinner at the kennison was outstanding. We would absolutely go back again. We were greeted warmly by the manager, Ryan. He was very kind and friendly and set the perfect tone. We had a drink at the bar while waiting for friends. I had the Annie and Alvy and my husband has the old fashioned. They were both creative, but not too fussy and well made. For dinner we ordered three appetizers- octopus, cauliflower, and the burrata. All three were very tasty, but the octopus was definitely our favorite. The burrata was also very good - great bread and yummy figs to accompany. For entrees each couple split the mezzaluna nera and the short rib. Both were fantastic. The short rib was perfectly tender and veggies cooked well. The mezzaluna were very flavorful and addictive. The kitchen sent out an appetizer portion of another pasta for us to try - the tajarin. It was really yummy, but rich. I’m very glad we got to try it - would recommend as something for the table to share. The service was friendly and not too rushed except once a busser tried to take a plate that still had food on it, but that wasn’t a big deal. Overall it was a great experience and we can’t wait to go back. If we lived in Lincoln Park this would be our go to place. Thank you kennison!
From start to finish it was a great experience. Food was excellent, but more importantly, customer service was exceptional. I mean, old-fashioned real customer driven service. Personable staff at all levels. It is so hard to find this level of attention today. We were welcomed by multiple staff members and treated superbly. I cannot say enough about the service!
They were so accommodating with the kids and the service could not have been better. Delicious cocktails and every dish was a big winner—both inventive and delicious. The cauliflower appetizer was so good and different than the typical cauliflower dishes out there. We will be back!
My boyfriend and I were very excited to check out The Kennison before a comedy show we were seeing down the street. Unfortunately, our expectations weren't met throughout the meal.
Decor: The overall decor and ambiance were the best part of the meal. We loved the interior of the restaurant and were comfortable throughout our meal.
Food: Overall our dishes were bland and improperly cooked. The crispy potatoes were inedible.
Service: While our server was polite, he barely stopped by our table to see how we were doing. While I enjoy not feeling rushed, we had to actively ask for refills and for our check. In addition, when we didn't eat an entire dish there was no acknowledgement to ask if there was an issue.
While we wanted to love this place, we ended up leaving hungry.
A very nice atmosphere with a small, but eclectic menu.
Any one of these incidents would have been tolerable, but together, they detracted from the experience: one guest asked for extra ice for a cocktail but didn’t get it until a second request; another guest ordered a second glass of wine as the meal was served—it didn’t come until everything had been cleared and we were ready for our bill; two guests asked for their salmon to be cooked more than medium rare—it wasn’t; and at least twice, our dinner was interrupted by servers bringing food that belonged to other tables; in addition, despite being an early evening reservation, one of the main entrees was not available yet the waiter didn’t tell us that while we were considering the menu. These are all fixable and should be attended to. The ambiance, location and price point demand better service.
My boyfriend & I were celebrating our anniversary. The ambiance was great, our server was pleasant & attentive. The food was delicious! Definitely would go again!
Our table was by the window, looking out on the snow falling on Wells Street..,food was good, wine excellent and both at a decent price
Three Chicken Sandwiches were all undercooked. They didn't seem to be able to handle themselves at a busy time of the night.
One of my favorite places in the city!!!
Such a cute brunch spot! Diner vibes with a modern twist.
Be VERY cautious when heading here. Had a reservation at 8pm, didn't sit until 8:35 - even though there were other open tables to be had. We were told multiple times that the party before us hadn't gotten up - which is weird as to why the restaurant didn't sit us somewhere else.
Finally sat, had 1 drink comp'd, but didn't receive our food for another 40min after waiting 30min just to sit. Great ambiance, and decent food, I would suggest heading over ONLY if you have the time.
We loved that the menu has full portions and half portions. We were able to try so many dishes by ordering half portions and they were all delicious.
Had a great time prior to Zoo Lights. Between the 4 of us, we tried all the cocktails. All fantastic. Food and dessert were superb.
Great Sunday Brunch. The duck confit hash and quiche were great. Good cocktails and friendly staff.
The steak in the steak frites dinner was pretty terrible. Almost all fat and very little actual meat. The salad, french fries and dessert were good though.
Excellent happy hour! Definitely appreciate that they offer the specials at tables, not just the bar. We've been several times, but are in love with their newest addition: french onion soup. Other favorites include the burger, the fried chicken sandwich, and the steak frites.
Food and service were outstanding. We loved the short ribs, the cauliflower, and the radish pasta.
We had a great brunch here! The drinks were delicious and so was the food. I got the breakfast sandwich, which was outstanding. The staff was very polite and easygoing. They made my family feel welcome—even the little ones!
Great service. Amazing candies pecan pasta, very thanksgiving ish. The owner dan came by - awesome guy!Love to go back!
Very friendly help. Had fun cocktails and great meal.
Salads were amazing. The Duck was delicious. Great service as well.
Perfect, from start to finish. Interesting wine list, love the playlist. Interesting decor, borrowing from a slight diner vibe with the chrome framed chairs and tile floor. Gorgeous salmon cooked medium rare, as both the chef and I prefer. I will definitely keep this restaurant in my radar.
The staff was understaffed and they accommodated us after telling them we have open table if not they told us it's 1 hr wait and the receptionist said that open table does not know if staff is understaffed .
Shared a very enjoyable brunch with a couple of friends. The food was reasonable, tasty and the portions were ample. Cocktails were a good value for the area.
We went for Sunday brunch. This was my second time and my family’s first time. My husband loved the biscuits and gravy and the rest of us loved the eggs Benedict on top of cornbread. The eggs Benedict preparation was really unique. I am a bit of a Connoisseur and will go back just for it. The coffee is better than average as well. The servers are as friendly and helpful as they come
Staff was great. Food was average and served cold. Friends loved the chicken sandwich. I tried the crispy pork and was disappointed and actually sent it back. After I sent back my meal they were overly eager to make me happy. The manager even came by to ask if there was anything they could do. We were heading to a show so didn't have time to wait on another meal so I passed. We finished our meal and even asked again if they could comp a dessert. Like the ambiance, drinks were great, food was average but the staff shined.
The only knock we have is that it took about 10 min before the server came to ya for the first time for drink and/appetizer order(s). Other than that, the service and food was great.
First time here; really liked the menu choices and wine list. Service very good. Would come back and try brunch or dinner again.
We had tickets to Second City, so needed to be served and out on time. Our waiter was solicitous and made sure we stayed on time.
We had avocado- shrimp salad; and the burger, both great. Nice wine list.
Only detracting detail: high noise level.
New York guests were impressed with our Sunday brunch. The wait staff is charming, right out of central casting. The food was excellent, especially the quiche.
