    My recent visit to The Kailyard restaurant was nothing short of exceptional, and I feel compelled to share what was an outstanding dining experience from start to finish. Nestled in a charming and welcoming setting, The Kailyard delivers a blend of rustic elegance and modern comfort that makes you feel at home the moment you arrive. But what truly sets it apart is the superb quality of the food, drink, and service. From the outset, the meal began on a high note with a beautifully presented beetroot starter. The dish was a visual treat—vibrant in colour and artfully plated. Each bite of the tender, earthy beetroot was a delightful combination of freshness and subtle sweetness, perfectly complemented by a light, creamy cheese and a scattering of herbs that elevated the flavours further. It was both refreshing and satisfying, a masterclass in how a humble root vegetable can be transformed into something elegant and memorable. For the main course, I opted for the hake, and I’m so glad I did. The fish was cooked to perfection—flaky, moist, and delicately seasoned. It rested on a bed of seasonal vegetables and a light sauce that tied all the elements together seamlessly. Every forkful was a balance of texture and taste: the crisp skin of the hake provided a delightful contrast to the soft, succulent flesh, and the accompanying ingredients enhanced the dish without overpowering it. It was clear that thought and care had gone into every aspect of the preparation. Throughout the meal, I sipped a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc, and it proved to be the ideal pairing. Light, crisp, and with just the right level of acidity, the wine complemented both the beetroot starter and the hake main beautifully. Its fruity notes danced alongside the flavours of the meal, enhancing without overshadowing—a truly well-chosen selection. Dessert was a classic apple pie, and it was, quite honestly, one of the best I’ve ever had. Overall, a superb experience - I shall return!

    Would highly recommend. Menu had a nice variety including some vegetarian and vegan options. Service was very good and everything we ordered was tasty. Orange and almond cake for dessert was excellent.
