The Joel Palmer House
Delicious as always. We both had the Rainbow Mushroom menu (reduced 3 course menu). The house salad is amazing, having a candy-cap mushroom vinaigrette. The beef stroganoff was thick and mouth-watering and went very well with the wine we ordered. Our reservation was on a Tuesday at 6:30 and the restaurant was not at all noisy.
We had high expectations for your restaurant. We love mushrooms and so expected the courses to be explained. The service was rather poor for the bragging done about this place. The wine attendant came to our table and was very knowledgeable but never returned to see if we wanted more wine or if we were enjoying it.
We were celebrating a special weekend and after the spectacular service at The Allison Inn, this was a bit of a downer for our group.
The food was very tasty tho, just would have liked to know more about each dish.
We all left feeling dissapointed.
Loved the menu and it was a great place for a get together or special occasion. Anything that speaks to taking time out of ones day to enjoy and relax.
This was one of the very best meals I’ve ever had. Though I ordered comfort food, everything was more complex, flavorful, and perfectly prepared than I expected. They also included subtle touches like flower petals and colorful salt, and one piece of delightful hot bread at a time (who wants a whole loaf?). My favorite thing was the palate cleansers, which were almost as delicious as the main events. I dearly hope I get another opportunity to visit the area, in which case I will again eat at The Joel Palmer House and stay at The Vintages!
Great meal and drinks in a classic setting. If you want something to drink besides Pinot, I'd recommed bringing your own. Their Pinot list is great but after a day or two of nothing but Pinot Noir I wanted something different and they just didn't have much else. Other than that, I'd go there over and over again. Really enjoyed it.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Service was fantastic, and the food outstanding. It is located is a
lovely old cottage, and was very quaint. Thank you for a lovely evening!
No recommendation at this time. This is the second time we have eaten there. We enjoyed ourselves last year. This year, we did the mushroom flight. Some of the dishes were good, but not excellent - the mushroom soup, some of the dessert bites (not the cheesecake), the crab dish, the duck (cooked to perfection but tepid), but not the risotto, and the wine prices were considerably too high. If the prices had been more reasonable, we would probably have bought two bottles instead of one. We will probably not go again.
Excellent as always! We love taking out of town guest to dine there as it is always perfect. The food is always perfect and the staff are excellent. Will be going back soon.
Everything was great. The only issue is that if there is a loud table next to you it can ruin your ambience but the food greatly makes up for it! The mushroom soup was amazing!
I have been wanting to eat at the JPH for many years. Finally went with my wife. Absolutely the best meal I have had in the last decade. The service was easily the best ever; attentive and caring, always polite and respectful. Staff kindly answered my wife's questions or took time to find the answer and then get back to us. I wish I had taken some pictures; the presentation of the dishes was amazing.
Awesome experience and I plan on returning!
A wonderful time, great food great staff. We will be back.
Valentine's Day dinner -- every course spot on. Great service. We love the casual but elegant ambience at JPH.
Only one complaint it was very cold in the restaurant. Several people kept their coats on. Heating system cannot compete with the single pain windows.
Wonderful for special occasions.. It is expensive.
Highly recommend. The chef knows exactly what he is doing. We are a family of fussy foodies and we loved it all!!!!! YEAH!
Food and service was amazing. The chef came out to check on us as well.
The food was delicious! We enjoyed the dishes which featured locally foraged mushrooms.
Ever since I first ate here it instantly became my favorite restaurant of all time. My husband now takes me here every year for my birthday and our anniversary. The most amazing food you will taste!!
Always one of the best destinations for fine dining.
Fine dining experience. Mushroom soup, liver pate’, stroganoff. Great attentive service. I recommend the duck breast. The four of us had three course meals. Great experience, good value for the money. With wine and tip, $100+ per person. Joel Palmer House is now off of my Bucket List!
The Palmer House remains one of the best in the Willamette Valley. Our party had a variety of menu selections and they all agreed their selection was absolutely delicious and they would return to the Palmer House in the future.
We have never been disappointed with Joel Palmer's Restaurant. The food and service are outstanding and the Chef always takes the time to come by your table and ask how your meal was. This is probably the #1 top restaurant in the Williamette Valley. A must have for foodie and wine enthusiasts.
We had a spectacular anniversary dinner at the Joel Palmer House. The food was amazing, especially the mushroom tart and the stroganoff.
For me, this was the perfect restaurant to celebrate a special event. Well worth the 100 round trip drive.
Famous for mushrooms incorporated into the food, and lives up to this billing. However, the food is very rich with only one item on the menu from the veggie/fruit food group, and to get that you have to give up the appetizer, which is what Joel Palmer does best. The palate cleansers are great, but you need something more to balance the sauces and meats!
wonderful food and great staff
Had a fantastic evening with relatives. The food and wine were great.
They always treat us special and are such an amazing staff. LOVE MUSHROOMS
we come every year when we visit wine country...always exceptional!
Wonderful service, fantastic meal. Great place in wine country.
We went for my wife's birthday. It was a nice quiet evening with a few people dining. The food was excellent as always. We would both highly recommend this restaurant.
Each course of the 5 course option was excellent.
We had been waiting to visit JPH when our daughter and son-in-law were visiting from out of town. it was his birthday and he loves mushrooms in abundance and all forms. The JPH did not dissapoint. The ambiance, service and food (3 course pre-fis menu) were all top notch. We really appreciated the extra levels of service and it was a nice touch when Chris, the Chef came out to ask how we were enjooying our meal and stayed to answer any of our questions. The JPH is not the place where you go once a week, or a few times a month, but on this night it was fantastic.
The food was well prepared, but service was slow and a bit confused. Other options at better price and not so far of a drive.
The food, which features wild mushrooms in many disguises, was superb. The ambience was very victorian (it is located in an historic mansion). But make sure you know where it is in Dayton. At night it disappears behind a high hedge, and there is no indication on the street as to its location. Locals, of course, would have no problem. They know it's between the Dollar General store and the post office. Visitors, however . . .
The Joel Palmer House was delightful. The food was exceptional and so lovingly prepared with such fresh ingredients; the staff clearly enjoys working there. There are almost too many of them scurrying around, but the benefit of their number is constant attention to guests. I also appreciated the chef visiting our table and explaining how he prepared a vegetable dish I asked about - nice to hear he incorporated a little something learned from his own grandmother in the dish.
The only negative is how dark the restaurant is from the street which made finding the entry a little tricky.
Otherwise it was a memorable meal and nice tribute to the owner's love of mushrooms.
We had made reservations for our mother-daughter vacation. We were not disappointed. Everything, including ambiance, knowledgable waitstaff, food, and drink, were exceptionally good.
Make sure you like mushrooms if you eat here :) delicious, but beware that every dish (even dessert) has a mushroom theme!
Rich, rich, rich! Rich enough on its own, the food is often blanketed with an incredibly rich brown sauce. The mushroom tart is three inches of duxelles in a rich pastry crust......you get the idea. It was too much for us.
Very odd Tortellini dish. Raw onions, bland, and the pasta was over cooked. Spent most of the night swatting at the 20 or so fruit flies buzzing around us. Pulling fruit flies out of wine glasses, yuck.
Wait staff was great. All the rest of the food was great. Love the mushroom forward concept.
