About The Jacobson
"If Picasso or Rembrandt wanted to grab a bit in KC, the food and atmosphere at The Jacobson would make them feel like they were back in front of an easel." -Alex Kluesner KC Magazine
Like paint to a blank canvas, The Jacobson, or "The J" for regulars, transformed a 4,000-square foot warehouse into a modern restaurant and bar in the heart of the Crossroads Arts District. Staying true to the surrounding culture, its walls are bedecked with paintings from local artist and its one-of-a-kind heated patio and full service bar is anchored by a two story sculpture by KC's own Stretch.
A glance at The Jacobson's variety of contemporary American cuisine yields a collection for meat lovers, vegetarians and vegans. Much like an artist who draws inspiration from his or her own environment, diners in search of muse are encouraged to mix and match tastes when ordering appetizer & entrees from the Mingle & Center Stage sections of the menu.

The Jacobson Ratings and Reviews
Ambience is awesome (A+++), and food is excellent. Love this place.
Besides difficulty in finding parking, the only negative was our waitstaff person who was not very personable or friendly at all and acted as if the last thing he wanted was to be there waiting on us. All six of us at the table remarked about his sour demeanor. Uncomfortable. Otherwise, a good experience.
Should have been a better experience... All the tools were there to make this a unique and delicious experience. Unfortunately the card were miss dealt with us on multiple occasions and it truly put a damper on our experience. The food is really good and it is a very lively and unique place. The cocktails are amazing. Just wish our experience had been better on a service standpoint.
We went to the Jacobson for dinner when we were in KC for a Chiefs game the following day. The atmosphere was lively and upscale casual. I had the plank salmon and my daughter, a vegetarian, had the vegan lasagna. We both enjoyed our meals very much. It seemed like a great place for having dinner with friends or for a date night.
The first impression was a bit rocky; an odd experience with the hostess greeting us. We had reservations or we may have just opted out at the front desk . . . We didn’t and we were very happy we stayed.
John, our waiter quickly changed the somber beginning . He was extremely knowledgeable of the location, the menu, the kitchen and readily offered recommendations when we asked. All of his recommendations were spot-on. Thanks John, for such great service and wonderful food.
The signature cocktails are great . . . I had ‘the Brooklyn’, a unique take on a bourbon drink with black walnut accent - very good. . . A take on what Harry Truman would have liked back in the day. The apetitizers, entrees and desserts were ‘out of this world’ good. Proportions were large and could be shared around the table for the foodie crowd.
A wonderful little gem that we nearly left because of a couple of thoughtless people. That would have been our mistake. We will be back and we will share with others. A great place when in Kansas CityCrossroads District. Definitely worth the drive.
We had a table of four and everyone ordered something different, all four meals were fantastic. It is a great atmosphere for a Saturday brunch and I will look forward to the patio seating on warm days. I thought the bottled wine prices were a bit steep but other than that, this was one of the best lunch spots I've been to in a while.
Our experience at the Jacobson was just ok -- good, but not great. When I booked our reservation, I asked for a standard table, not a high top. We were seated at a high top. Our table was right in the flow of traffic near the bar to the point that people kept brushing my dining partner's chair. We were also celebrating my dining partner's birthday which I included in the reservation and told our server but her birthday was not really acknowledged. We had the meatball appetizer and the meatball came out lukewarm. We told our server but she didn't offer to replace it. We both ordered the Nashville chicken. It came out with a sauce drizzled over the top that set my mouth on fire. I'm ok with spicy but it wasn't what I was expecting based on the menu description and our server didn't mention it either. We were each served an anemic wing and thigh. For the price, I was expecting more chicken. I will have to say, the chicken was well cooked with a crispy outer coating and very tender meat. Finally, our dining experience was prior to heading to the theater. We told our server that upfront and she did a good job of time management so we could get to the theater on time. Unfortunately, she gave us the wrong ticket which was almost double the cost of ours so that took a little extra time to sort out. With all of the wonderful places to dine in KC, I'm not sure we will go back.
We had a fabulous meal at the Jacobson with dear friends. The appetizers were delicious and unique. The drinks were tasty and our meal was very good. Normally, specials are mentioned and no one mentioned specials to us that evening but it was still a good choice and we were happy with our evening and being able to hear each other have a conversation.
The meal was terrible. Steak was cold when served. One meal was wrong. They served us the wrong bottle of wine and tried to charge us the higher price with the explanation they were out of the one we ordered. They did not ask or tell us this. Will not go back.
My wife was before and i want surprise her for special occasion brunch; what a surprise we have to wait 30 min for our order and the lady on charge apologies for the delay with a 10.00 discount for next time and is not the money , because we like to enjoy nice places even are expensive but worthy. Besides the burger I order medium rare and it came as charcoal the server suggest eat my fries meanwhile I didn't said nothing for dont be rude or left the 110.00.But honestly with all the rewards they shows at the entrance has to have a better person on charge to know what exactly needs to do on this situations.
Enjoyed visit to The Jacobson...an historical building AND great food. Tried the fig bruschetta..portion of 4 pieces..very good to share! The tomato soup was amazing! As were the goat cheese stuffed meal balls. Had the "mingle happy hour" portion of 2. That with the soup was a perfect light supper. My friend had the salmon and really like that as well. Too full for dessert, but the coffee was sublime :)
My wife and I have gone to the Jacobson for our anniversary for the past several years. We always have a great meal, and we don't leave with "sticker shock" when we pay the bill. There should be more restaurants like the The Jacobson around town. We will be back next year.
Our server on Saturday evening was wearing an auto repair shirt with the name Jed. He was not helpful and condescending when asked questions about the dishes. This is the first time I have received bad service from your restaurant and it's not okay to make customers feel bad for asking questions. When he forgot one of the ordered items he acted like it was our fault as well.
We have been here a few times and had pleasant experiences. My wife and I thought it would be a good spot to take a friend visiting from California. We were thankfully seated outside. We sat in a booth closest to the door, 4 of us. Everything was great at first. And then came the noisy people who were invariably seated directly next to us (there were other outdoor seating options) granted we were outside, Saturday night, alcohol =loud talking.
Our server was Mesha. She was more than accommodating.
About 15 min after placing our orders she came by letting us know that there had been a computer glitch and the burgers were not on the grill and she asked again what burgers we were having.
(anytime I can I rant about burgers at the jake!)
Food came out about 25-30 min possibly longer after ordered. Our guest enjoyed his food, my wife and our other friend were less than impressed. I was grateful to have one of the best burgers in KC in front of me, I ate hardy and cleared my plate despite the moist bun from the juices of the medium well burger.
Initially we had reservations at the Farm House. Maybe we should of went there.
In the past my experiences have been good. This time I went with a friend for brunch, our sever didn't want to be there (I am a server myself, so usually I don't care too much but this was a bit much), the bottomless drinks were decent, but the food my friend and I ordered was awful. I had just a couple of bites of my chicken and waffles and it was honestly hard to eat. I never leave bad reviews, but this chicken made me sick for the rest of the day and into the next day. It was veiny and poorly prepared. It also came out right after we ordered it, which would've been fine but the server told us it was because it was slow.. and so you would expect when it's slow that the food would be a bit better. I never leave negative reviews, because, as I said, I'm a server and understand the flux and flow of restaurant business. Overall I am very disappointed, wasted my money, and will not be returning.
The Jacobson came highly recommended. We came for our anniversary dinner with another couple. Can’t recall a worse experience at a restaurant, not sure how a restaurant with one type of steak (a signature dish, named after the city it resides in and made famous) at 7:45 PM on a Saturday. There are literally stockyards a few blocks away. The ‘medallion’ steaks we were offered instead were poorly cooked- multiple times. Waited hours for one particular drink, which came after the bill. Wish it could have worked, I’m trying to be charitable. An evening to remember no doubt. Three stars overall because they kind of tried to make it right.
This experience felt like one of the least accommodating dining experiences I have had in recent memory. I am gluten-free and understand that this can be challenging for restaurants, but a flip attitude about it is not the right response. And really, you can't have a stash of gluten-free crackers on hand? And yes, you have ONE kind of coffee and no decaf, and thanks for telling me all of your favorite menu items without even asking us what our preferences might be. In sum, this is the fourth time of been to this restaurant and it gets less impressive each time. I will not be returning.
