A glance at The Jacobson's variety of contemporary American cuisine yields a collection for meat lovers, vegetarians and vegans. Much like an artist who draws inspiration from his or her own environment, diners in search of muse are encouraged to mix and match tastes when ordering appetizer & entrees from the Mingle & Center Stage sections of the menu.
The Jacobson offers a seasonal, scratch kitchen, and boasts one of Kansas City's more progressive bar programs, including handmade craft and barrel-aged cocktails, and The Jacobson's original flask service.

The waiter hyped up the flavors of the food, which when they actually arrived were underwhelming. When the waiter was describing everything he actually mentioned DO NOT order a specific dish - nobody likes it. It was the first time any of us had actually heard a waiter say something like that. There are far too many other restaurants in this town with much better food. We got there at 5pm when they weren't busy and the service was slow and as they got busier the service got even slower. Nothing impressive about this restaurant unfortunately.
Very good food, excellent service. Only issue was the 70's style disco light above our table which was weird and somewhat annoying. Lighting was so poor that we actually had to use waiters cell phone to read menu. All in all, positive experience and would easily not hesitate to recommend. It's not cheap... but you get quality food.
The food was incredible. Possibly best truffle fries I have had so far. The crab dip was also delicious. My griflriend’s Mac and cheese tasted good, but seemed to a tad bit warm for possibly sitting a bit. The service was poor at best for majority of the night. Our waiter never told us the special for the night (Valentine’s Day) but told every table around us. Water took about 20 minutes to be refilled and we rarely we checked on compared to other tables. Our food took almost 40 minutes for our main entrees which were Mac and cheese in a skillet and a seafood stew type of dish. We arrived at 6:30 long before the large rush of people came in around 7:15ish. Our waiter also seemed to have forgotten our order when it stopped by letting us know our chicken was taking a bit of time and would be our next even though we had never ordered the chicken. It wasn’t until our entrees came out that the service significantly improved, so we appreciated the effort to makeup for the night. The ambience was also very dark and the lighting was not helpful to read the menu. I also wish the lighting was better so I could see the delicious food I was eating. Overall, I would only come back for the food if I could serve myself or for takeout. The food seriously was the only thing that kept me in the building to finish my food. I would not recommend this place to dine at night, especially on holidays.
Went there for Valentines Day was not shown the Valentines Day menu and there was never any mention of it. The only reason we found out about it was the table next to us who had the same waiter was telling them about it as soon as they sat down. Our waiter was terrible, we ordered another round of drinks halfway through dinner and they never showed up and had to tell them we didn't want them anymore. The Food was good but it doesn't make up for having bad service. Will not be going back.
Very interesting menu items. I think most menu items are dishes I’d love to try in future visits. I will go back.
We dined at The Jacobson for lunch on Valentines Day. They were not busy, but we waited 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged our presence to be seated. Once seated, it took 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order, and then my dining companion ordered the chicken salad sandwich on a lettuce wrap, but it came out on a bun. The food was delicious and the staff was pleasant, but just very slow service during a slow time.
Staff was maybe even better than the amazing food!
Great food and service. Only downsde was the smell of smoke from the cigar bar next door. Otherwise outstanding. Definitely will go back.
Cash was an amazing server
Great food. Great service. Love the vibe! Brunch was amazing and not so much food you feel terrible the rest of the day!
Food was exceptional, we were seated quickly and had outstanding service. The noise level was a little loud and it was very dark but otherwise, it was great! We will definitely be back!
Our waiter, whom we've had before, was a hoot... (but might not be to everyone's taste) The tag team style was a little odd. The food was eclectic and delicious. Suggestion, if you call a salad a "beet" salad, then it should have more beets in it and when a customer orders dressing on the side, that request should be honored. Also suggest offering a smaller cut of Ribeye. I'm a big guy and could only finish half of the delicious steak.
Food was outstanding. It was my husband and Is first date here and we got the fried wings for the appetizer. Those were the best wings we’ve ever had along with the truffle fries, Jacobson’s burger, French dip it was out of this world. Out server was horrible however we waited thirty minutes just to order and constantly was asking for more water. We never got checked up on and ended up being there for close to two hours. Easily would have been an hr long dinner if not less. Other than that we will be back for more of those wings! Hoping for better service next time
Nice pre-concert meal, appetizer, entry and 2 round of top shelf drinks for $100
Great value! Steak was nice and tender. The dressing on the wedge salad seemed a little off. But Wednesdays are half-priced wines and a great value! Servicer was great too, we went on a weeknight when the weather wasn't great and it was an early dinner before an event so we were only one of two tables in the venue. We will plan to return during another 1/2 wine night!
As always, the staff at the Jacobson are amazing. This is our every Sunday brunch spot and are never disappointed
The server was unable to manage his table load and was struggling to keep up with the ~10 tables he was assigned to. Multiple people ended up going to the bar to get their drink orders and after 25 minutes without talking to him or having any updates, we had to check in with the bar about our food. Also, contrary to what the sign on the parking garage nearby says, the Jacobson does not validate parking for patrons.
The hand crafted cocktails are always fun to try! The atmosphere is a great date night or evening out with friends.
Service was excellent!!
It was amazing. The food was great, the service was excellent, and the overall experience was fantastic. I will definitely be going back soon. I would recommend this restaurant to friends and family.
Was extremely disappointed in the chocolate cake offered during resturant week. I was looking forward to it and it was not up to par for a high quality dining establishment.
Went during restaurant week. 4 of us. 10 minutes for water and 10 minutes for first round of drinks. Place was only half full. I politely inquired with the manager and she made me feel like I insulted her. Our waiter did apologize and was friendly. They don’t validate parking, no biggie, but they blamed on the fees. Food was just fair. Doubt we will go again, too many other choices.
We decided to try out the Jacobsen during Restaurant Week and were pleasantly surprised with our visit. It can be difficult to find restaurants who clearly label their gluten free foods and have gluten free options. The Jacobsen has Vegan and Gluten Free items labeled on their menu (including dessert!). The Restaurant Week meals were good, we also ordered from the regular menu and were very happy with our selection. Staff was friendly and chatty. Parking can be rough down in the Crossroads.
We were celebrating my moms birthday and forgot about the Saturday brunch crowd. It was a bit loud for our outing but I would recommend it for folks looking to have a fun Saturday brunch. The service was great and the food was also good.
This was our first visit, and we took advantage of Restaurant Week to try it at lunch.
Our server, Rick, was excellent and did a fantastic job of taking care of us even with the large group seated behind us.
For our first course, we tried the tomato bisque, the truffle fries and the caprese salad. All three were excellent and had great flavor, particularly the truffle fries. The second course choices were the bucatini pasta with roasted garlic marinara, and the Nashville fried chicken. The marinara with the pasta was very good but could have used a bit more garlic for my taste. The chicken was very good as well.
The real treat was dessert. The chocolate layer cake had great flavor, though it was a bit dry. The gelato, however, was some of the best I've ever had. Loads of vanilla and the perfect texture. I'd come back just for that, and we will definitely be back again to try some of the other menu items.
Visited for lunch during Restaurant Week and the visit was only average. Courses were oddly all served at once, which meant cold food.
We ordered off the restaurant week menu since that’s what brought us in. We shared the salmon crostini, which was excellent and the hummus, which was fine but nothing too special! We both ordered the bourbon glazed salmon. My husband thought it was good but for me it just wasn’t what I was expecting I guess. The roasted vegetables with it were quite good. Nothing on the dessert menu struck out fancy so we ordered the flourless chocolate torte and it was almost as dry as the old school chocolate cake that came as one of the pre fix menu desserts. So the food was okay, but we had great service-which has become hard to find in this city. We also saw lots of other items on the regular menu that peaked our interest and intend to return to check those out sometime in the future!
Thoroughly enjoyed menu items off of the Restaurant Week menu. Waiter, Jed, was great—knew menu well and gave an overview of everything on the special menu. Also, made wine and cocktail recommendations. Great time had by all in our party.
We came for restaurant week lunch and enjoyed it very much. The food is always excellent and the service is the best.
Went during restaurant week. It was slammed. Loud! The food is good and tastes fresh. The champagne (Brut) we were served was flat. We didn't say anything cause it was so busy and our waiter seemed like the type of person to get angry if we said anything negative. We will return for the food. The space is dark and warm (good ombionce) for after work drinks/happy hour. Could be a good date place.
We've eaten here many times, and enjoyed it every time.
A work colleague and I went to The Jacobson for the first time during KC Restaurant Week for lunch. We made a reservation, and I'm so glad we did! They were very busy. Sat at a high top table, and had our waiter stop by as soon as we were seated. Rick did a fantastic job, and really made us feel welcomed. He checked in throughout our meal (not too frequently or too infrequently!), and he's very charming.
Food was delicious - we both recommend the Caprese salad and the butterscotch pudding for dessert.
We will be going back in February for the envelope promotion. We will also be sure to ask for Rick again!
I ate lunch with some coworkers during KC restaurant week. There's a fixed menu for $15. It was definitely worth the money. Looking at the menu, the prices are a bit high. But the food was phenomenal. Between us, we had pork confit, Nashville Chicken, caprese salad, salted butterscotch pudding (to die for). There's a great patio (which we did not sit at since its January). Great vibe inside with jazz music. Friendly staff. I would recommend.
Our service was spectacular. Jed was our server and shared all kinds of fun trivia about the building's history and its ties to Harry Truman. He was very responsive and attentive to our needs to be finished by a certain time. We will absolutely go back.
The food was delicious and we will definitely be going back.
Amazing food and cool location
The food was delicious. We’ll definitely go again.
Pleasantly surprised with this pick for restaurant week. Had been here once before years ago, forgot the experience, decided to give it another go. Honestly one of the best dining experiences my boyfriend and I have encountered in Kansas City. Will be going back to give their traditional menu a try.
