   The ambiance was awesome - great tasting food. We came for a birthday and while it was cool that the bday person received a menu that said “happy birthday”, they didn’t get to keep anything as it wasn’t personalized and they didn’t even get a dessert bday treat..

   We were a group of 5 friends who just got put from dinning looking for some drinks and catch up so we reserved at Izakaya. When we arrived it was a bit early so we started at the bar while the table was ready. When we were seated the waiter came to ask for our food order and we told her that we were there just for drinks, she got mad and went to the host, she never came back to take our drinks order so after 45minutes we stood up and left. It was a nasty experience, we’ve heard amazing things from Momotaro but Izakaya for us was an awful experience service wise.

    Location ambiance was nice, and dishes ranged from average to pretty good. Service was quite poor with regards to wait time and waiter was largely non present. We were stuck waiting over 75 minutes to get a sashimi order which then came out wrong, when burgers and rice ordered at the same time came out an hour earlier. The man attending to waters and clearing dishes was excellent and attentive, though.

    The reservation was timely and despite it was Valentines we did not have to wait and we were seated as soon as we arrived. The food was great … we also tried the non royale which is indeed delicious. The sashimi portion are very small, that may be the only remark. The ambient was cool!

    Once finding out that my date and I weren’t having food our server completely ignored us. A table next to me was seated after my date and I and they received their drinks AND food before my date and I received our drinks. She was very cold and unpleasant. This is the first time I’ve experienced this at Izakaya as the service is usually immaculate

    Unbelievable food. Just top notch. The burger was truly mind blowing and beat out Au Cheval for me. Our server would sprint away while we were still talking which was frustrating at a non peak time.

    Went on Saturday night at 9:30. It seemed as though because we weren’t ordering food, we were rushed out. Somehow we received an extra beer to the table though. We thought it was on the house since we said we were not ordering more drinks when our waitress came by to ask. It still appeared on the tab. Then our waitress took away our menus at 10:30 and didn’t ask us if we wanted anything else when she brought the check. There was no follow up. It was just bill & menus taken away.

    Me and my partner tried it for the restaurant week and unfortunately we were very disappointed. The food we ordered was nothing outstanding, more rather like a fast-food kind of food, but the tipping point were the desserts they served. An extremely hard ice cream and something that resembled a small donut that you could well buy at a 7-eleven. I am so sorry to say it so, but we were so dissatisfied.

    We went for restaurant week. We also ordered a few things off of the regular menu & a couple of drinks. Drinks came out and they were ok. Appetizers come out, no sauce. Restaurant week appetizers come out, we ask for Tonkatsu sauce: our waitress, Maya, says it’ll take a while. We say ok. 1 of our entrees comes out, the other takes 10 minutes (we ordered the same entree). We begin eating. We still haven’t received the Tonkatsu sauce for the appetizer. I tried for about 15mins minutes to get Maya’s attention to no avail. I finally get the attention of a busboy and he goes to find her. She comes out, stops at two other tables then finally comes to us. We ask about the sauce, she leaves again and finally brings Katsu curry, then walks away before I can even point out that it’s not what I asked for. We ordered gyozas, which had decent filling but the gyoza wrapper has a strange after taste. We also ordered two chicken Katsu curry entrees and they were bad. The chicken was unseasoned and the breading was damp or moist instead of fried crispy. The curry sauce was on the side, instead of in the bowl with the rice and chicken cutlet. We finally catch Maya and I let her know that I wanted Tonkatsu sauce, not Katsu curry sauce and she tells me that what she brought is Tonkatsu sauce. I try it, it’s curry. I’m half Japanese. I know the difference between curry and Tonkatsu sauce. It’s not even close. We get the bill, and see that we’re charged for the wrong sauce, I point it out and she’s annoyed and points out that the curry she brought is in fact Tonkatsu sauce, I explain that it’s not and what I received is not what I ordered. At this point she’s visibly upset and complaining behind the curtain right besides our table where the register is. Someone else brings our card back. All in all, we had a terrible experience. After frequenting Momotaro, I was excited to try the Izakaya but the quality of food and poor service really ruined it. Do not recommend.

    Restaurant Week 2023 — the highlight and absolute delight of this dinner was the delicious appetizer Renkon Hasami-Age, with lotus root, the best. Ambience, music, décor, vibe, and Highball (drink) always on point. Momotaro, as well as The Izakaya at Momotaro, has become one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Chicago since more or less 3-4yrs ago. Therefore, I will definitely return.

    I was disappointed because this is the bar end of Momotaro and I thought my drinks were only okay. I got a highball on the menu and a Manhattan, that barely tasted like it had whiskey in it. I went for restaurant week and the food was good but for $42 portion sizes were small. My friend and I ended up ordering additional items off menu.

    The food was great! We had a later reservation due to work. However, our server really negatively impacted the experience. Adeline seemed unhappy to be there. Her responses were dry and borderline rude. When we asked about the restaurant week menu she replied “you can’t have that it’s gone”. later on toward the end we asked for a refill of coke, to which she replied, no the bar is closed (side note, refills are not free, we were charged each time… didn’t not know this). I was almost afraid to ask for anything, so I didn’t have to deal with her rudeness. We really enjoyed the food, just unfortunate that one person with a really unpleasant attitude brought down the experience. Would try again, but hope to not have her ever again.
