Good food but don’t go here if you want the Japanese omelette rice, they don’t have it anymore...
Food and ambiance were great. Service was very very slow. It took 2 hours to get through a few tapas and a burger.
Great experience. Food delicious and cool environment. the rock was amazing. Great srvjce
Unfortunately the service was terrible this weekend, I have been here before and liked the place enough to go back but after waiting over 20 minutes we had to get up and look for someone to take our drink order. A manager took our 1st drink order and put in our food order. After another 35 minutes, still no server, and half our food missing we had to go to the bar ourselves and order our 2nd drink where the bartender mentioned again to another manager that we had no server. A 2nd manager got involved after that and was absolutely attentive from that point moving forward but was not not the experience we were expecting. The server literally walked past our table numerous times and not once even acknowledged that we were sitting there. I will say, once the 2nd manager was notified of the issue they did try to accommodate us in every way but it was just a shame it had to get to that point.
Incredible experience at Izakaya. They were running behind on tables so we stepped out for 30 minutes for a drink. Nick at the host stand was very apologetic and made everything great. We couldn’t speak more about how excellent a server Stephanie was for our group of 5. Could not speak more highly about the food, drinks, and service.
The food and atmosphere were both wonderful. There were a few minor miscues in getting seated and with the wrong dishes coming out a couple times but the staff was incredibly accommodating and understanding. Overall, the experience was wonderful and I can't wait to go back!
They were slow so ironically service was as well.
I’m completely obsessed with Izakaya at Momotaro. I’ve been twice now and the food, cocktails, ambiance and service are exceptional. The burger is one of my favorites in the city. I’ll be back!
Quality of food was less than expected, especially in light of the price. Probably will not return, other than to eat the Robata, which we agreed was the best food on the menu.
It took 30 min. Before anyone came to serve us and ONLY after i got up to find the manager. Set the tone.
We had a wonderful time at the Izakaya. Everyone was kind, courteous and accommodating. We loved the food and the cocktails. We will definitely return,
The burger and ramen were insane.
Small menu and uncomfortable seating. The first floor restaurant looked more lively than this restaurant.
I loved atmosphere . But thought alcohol price especially Sake was quite expensive , and when serving warm sake, you should use tokkuri and sakazuki.
Everything was fantastic! The burger is a must have item!
Booked a reservation for 4, and restaurant was an hour late to get us a table. Hostess did nothing to make situation better except come up with excuses. After long frustration, we ended up ordering food at the bar and the hostess came about an hour late to offer our table. Bar service not much better as it was hard to place food and drink orders. The food was good however. Have eaten here several times before, but it seems this place is not what it once was. This was certainly a truly bad experience. Won't be back.
son’s 21st birthday... it was amazing!
Dinner was actually upstairs. Truly believe the restaurant under delivered on expectations.
Such a perfect vibe! Love being able to share plates and enjoy dinner with friends. Good service, everything was smooth and quick
Always great food ! The service and food outdoes itself everytime I go !
Cozy, romantic, with amazing food. We love Momotaro, but this had a slightly more relaxed vibe, which is exactly what we were looking for.
Great deal on the beer, shot and burger/ramen special. The fusion burger was awesome, would definitely go back!
So fun & delicious, if expensive. Our waitress definitely pushed us to over order though. Next time I would stand my ground.
Would love to see the happy hour come back. It wasn’t as busy as normal.
Food was good, service could have been friendlier.
Great date night spot. Delicious Japanese street style food. They rave about the ramen here, but I personally thought the other dishes had more to offer, and were a bit more unique. Drinks were super tasty! Very cool vibe.
The food was disappointingly non-special. We had eaten upstairs and had a wonderful meal in a wonderful atmosphere. Downstairs was noisy even though there were very few people there. I wouldn't return there.
Amazing food, little pricey but the quality is worth it.
We ordered many dishes, entrees and small plates. The “award-winning” ramen was far too salty, a sign that culinary expertise is lacking. The uni deviled eggs have far less flavor than you’d expect, and are a ripoff. Nothing here was special. If you don’t mind spending $80 and still being hungry, you’ll be fine. Otherwise, it’s not a memorable dining experience.
Drinks were okay but as not as good as most places in the area for the same price point. Sushi seemed old with hard rice which was weird. Ramen was kind of disappointing considering the award behind it. Waitress was very nice but didn’t come around often enough.. like when food was delivered and when needed something. We’d have to wait a while and not many customers were there.Bar was cute and we liked the layout.
We were glad we tried it but not sure we’d be back.
Our reservation was at 7:45 and we were seated right away. By 8:15, nobody had been to our able to take a drink order so I had to ask the hostess for someone to come serve us. Once we ordered, our first two dishes (edamame and toro) came out relatively quickly. We didn’t receive our next two items for another 30 minutes. The restaurant seemed understaffed, and the host and waitress were both very apologetic. We would come back solely for the skirt steak robata, but we aren’t eager to return right away.
This place is romantic also great for drinks. My bf and I had a great time. Hostess and server was welcoming.
The food was good; however, the portions were small.
My husband, sister, and I didn’t realize that Momotaro had recently gotten new executive and sous chefs, and redone the menu. Extremely disappointed at the lacking flavor and poor technique shown in the dishes we tried during this visit. It’s a shame - Momotaro (both upstairs restaurant and downstairs Izakaya) were our absolute favorite spots in Chicago. We never missed celebrating a special occasion at Momotaro over the past years; but this visit was extremely disappointing. Many of our friends had become Momotaro fans as well due to our recommendation but we will be sure to update them on the change and our disappointing experience.
It I was fine. The award winning ramen was fine. Definitely didn’t taste award winning. Just okay. I probably wouldn’t go back here again. Waitress was really bad too, and pretty much ignored us the whole time. It was nothing special honestly, and not worth the reputation it has.
Awesome array of small plates and drinks for late night friend get together
Great food, loved the atmosphere and the lamb was exquisite.
Service was excellent, knowledgeable and attentive. Food was good but underwhelming for how much the restaurant is hyped. Requested a quieter spot and were sat at a two top just below a speaker.
