The Ivy St. Helen’s Square
We had a fantastic meal, service was perfect. Lovely surroundings! Best meal we have had in a long time.
Very disappointed to arrive on time but pre-booked table yet available. The small bar area was totally full. Stood scrunched in a corner for maybe 15 minutes for a table. Starter arrived moderately quickly but main course took for ever. Two fillet steaks were very good, vegetarian cottage pie was awful. Had to ask twice for wine glasses to be topped up. Pleasant staff but very slow service considering how highly the Ivy rates itself and what it charges. Been three time before. Wouldn’t rush about to go again.
We waited an hour between having our starter and main. We reminded them but they hadn’t chased without us asking.
Was a special meal and was ruined by this experience.
We had a meal to celebrate my wife’s birthday although A few days after the event. The restaurant appeared to be overbooked with a significant event also in the upstairs room. Our booking and also other clients were significantly delayed not receiving our main course until 945 from an 815 booking.
The maitre d’ was very helpful and kind enough to provide us with an additional bottle of wine which had been consumed prior to enjoying with our main course because of a substantial delay. The food was however very good and I could not fault the quality of the food and the staff were very helpful and supportive despite the delays and issues on the night
The food and atmosphere were lovely but despite being told as we arrived that our table was just being cleared and reset, we still waited over 45 minutes at the bar and had to chase staff twice to find out about if our table was ready.
Fab food but slightly spoilt by having to wait so long for it!
The evening was very special, it was a slow start has had to wait a while to seated but the food was amazing so we soon forgot about the waiting, staff were lovely even though they were rushed of there feet as it was so busy, I can see why as the food was outstanding. Xx💕 we will definitely be back. Xx
Met up with out son in uni at York, lovely food, great service especially George, couldn’t have been nicer
Awful loud school canteen orientated place. Had to move seats due to drunken people. Waiter then just tossesd bill on table. Wont be returning
Booked a table at 3pm and eventually seated at 3:15 with no apology. Food nice but then you would expect it for £40 for 2x afternoon tea. Service was average and certainly not worth the £5 additional service charge they added to our bill.
The Ivy always feels special and the food is of a high standard - it would be good if the menu changed sometimes, however.
Great place for a girlie treat. Felt pampered. Do book to ensure a table..Will go next time in York
I went to the Ivy in York for breakfast with a friend. There were lovely vegetarian options on the menu as well as many fresh juices and smoothies... Everything tasted great. I would certainly recommend the Ivy for a weekend breakfast or brunch.
Booked in advance for our daughters birthday evening meal. We eat at the ivy in Leeds quite often which is excellent so as we were in York decided to try this one. It was perfect, brilliant service, all the food we chose was excellent. Our table was in a really good part of the restaurant, it was a busy Friday evening so a great atmosphere. We will definitely return hopefully very soon ! Thinking of booking for New Years Eve.
Excellent service, excellent food and a perfect ambiance.
5* service and 10/10 food
Delicious food and wine , served by exceptional staff both friendly and efficient .
Ivy special Gin was also a treat
Ambience was wonderful , the restaurant was very busy but that actually enhanced our enjoyment of the evening and certainly did not delay service .
A truly lively night out
We have visited The Ivy several times however the quality of food on this occasion was poor and with a limited menu. I went for fish and chips which was soggy and had far too much batter on what was a very thin piece of fish. The chips were over cooked. My wife had the duck curry which was ordinary and tasteless.
We had Zucchini to start which was okay but we had not finished our starter before being presented with our main courses which left us feeling rushed. We shared a creme brûlée for dessert which was cold, not even warm......this may be how you serve it?
We love the ambience of The Ivy but the quality of food did not match the quality of the environment.
We were looking forward to our evening at The Ivy but left feeling disappointed and unsure if we will return again. We look forward to hearing from you

Thoroughly enjoyable lunch at The Ivy in York. The restaurant has a nice feel to it and the service was very good. Having been to The Ivy in London on numerous occasions I didnt know what to expect in York - I was pleasantly surprised. Had the prawn open sandwich for lunch - at £12.95 it's not cheap but the prawns were HUGE, well cooked and succulent and the sauce had the perfect piquancy. I would have been happier if chips were included in the price, as they were with my friends roast beef ciabatta sandwich (she was asked how she would like the beef cooking!) but all in all it was a lovely afternoon.
Booked for friends 70th birthday dinner. Excellent service from the moment we walked in. Flowers were placed on the table which was oval and so much better for interaction between the six of us. We had asked them to prepare a cake which was delicious, as was the dinner. No rush to clear us from the table despite the 2 hour rule. Haven’t found a bad Ivy yet!!
I love York Ivy, the service from the moment you walk in the door is exceptional.
Sadly the duck curry wasn’t on do I went for the vegetarian version. The apple tarts fine was to die for!
The Ivy, St. Helen's Square is a wonderful venue -imposing from the outside and also on the inside. The food and service are consistently good, as you'd expect from such a respected name. It's truly a treat to go there and something my husband and friends always look forward to. The menu is adventurous yet not pretentious and the wine list has a lot to offer. I would highly recommend a trip to The Ivy.
Only as there isn’t a maybe option. Definitely room for improvement
We had a warm welcome ( so important) and an appreciative farewell. The staff were friendly and professional and made an effort in ensuring that we were happy with our table and the meal. A very enjoyable evening. We will return !
Gorgeous venue, beautiful food and fantastic service. Truly lovely evening
Great food and waitress service but the Bar staff are very slow so takes an age to get a drink !
This is our 3rd (wife’s 4th) visit. As a venue we love the place but the neighbors were very loud, the mince in the shepherds pie was lumpy and gristley and the prawn cocktail didn’t taste good. We didn’t expect the London version, which we love, but I think that standards have slipped in the food and general management departments. It was cold with the main door opening and closing with no real barrier. We won’t be going back to the York Ivy for a while now
Great ambience great food but service quite slow had to ask for drinks and desert menu and the wine bucket was to far way to help ourselfs so we had to rely on the front of house staff to notice
Food was lovely but on the pricey side. 10/10 for service though.
Absolutely amazing! Fantastic food, great atmosphere and very friendly and attentive service!
We were kept waiting for an Hour for our table, but were given free wine! Our waitress Kayla was fabulous, need more people like her about!!
Great food, service and ambience. Thank you for a lovely birthday.
Enjoyable evening with friends and good food
We had a wonderful lunch at The Ivy in York. The food was superb as expected but the service was so special, understated but so well looked after! We will definitely visit again
Poor food. Service good apart from them taking 10 minutes to find our jackets when leaving
Food was delicious and the surroundings were perfect. Staff extremely attentive perhaps a little too much at times but otherwise a fantastic time had by all.
Superb experience at the Ivy. Staff particularly our waiter Callum attentive friendly service excellent. Lovely free coffees and a cake as it was my cousins birthday. Made the start to our day lovely. Thankyou.
As always, another excellent time. Service brilliant , food tasty, well presented and lovely
Excellent service and exquisite food - definitely recommend
Last minute booking but was shown to lovely table, very attentive staff who knew their products. Food was excellent and side dishes delicious! Will be back for more soon!!
Music a bit loud at times, meaning guests were shouting. Much better when the music was off completely.
We came for afternoon tea at 3.00pm. Scones were absolutely delicious. Brioche chicken roll good. Sandwiches were dry and stale. Sweet treats fun and interesting.
The tea itself was unremarkable and weak.
Service was friendly and very slow at times.
