We’ve been here on numerous occasions and it never lets us down. Had Sunday dinner and it was a good sized portion and lovely. The food was great and service from Olaf was brilliant.

I cannot recommend The Ivy franchise in Harrogate. It’s incredibly overpriced, the food choice is mediocre and the drinks are downright mean. I accept that The Ivy is only about the brand and its sense of perceived aspiration for some people. At the right time the atmosphere can be lively and fun. However that does not compensate for the shockingly poor menu choices and staggeringly poor value for money. The worst example of this is the pricing and sizing of soft drinks. They offer nothing larger than 200ml bottles of Coke or Fanta for kids (half the size of a standard can, and barely mixer size!) and charge £4 for this. The menu offers only 4 or 5 main courses all of which are unimaginative and small portions. Desserts are £12-14. Seriously? There are plenty of better dining experiences in this town for a fraction of this price, even some of the chains. Of which The Ivy lets face it, is one. The founders of West Street Covent Garden would turn in their graves.

Atmosphere and service was excellent. Unfortunately the fish was on the verge of overcooked. The beef tartare the first time around was inedible. The tartare had far too much of the horseradish mustard in it - it completely overpowered the dish and essentially cooked the beef - which meant the beef had become tough and overly chewy. Luckily the lovely waiter had another made for me with the mustard on the side, so I could enjoy it.

We visited The Ivy on 20 March for my wife's birthday. What we did notice was that the number of waiting staff did not match the volume of table covers. On talking to a number of people, we believe that the expectation by the Ivy for the night were somewhat off. However, Megan, our super professional waitress was on the ball, highly engaging, diligent and so pleasant. She made the night a real joy. How she kept smiling after already being on duty at 9am and was running into a 10pm end time was amazing. I hope Megan and the other very small team on that day will be recognised by the Ivy, because they kept the show on the road.
