The Ivy Dining Counter
Executive Chef Gary Lee creates balanced seasonal menus, featuring Ivy classics, but accounting for today’s tastes, incorporating more Asian dishes, salads and vegetables, and the advent of a “sea and shells” section. Director Fernando Peire leads a strong and experienced team to deliver the unfaltering service for which The Ivy has become well known over the years. In this, its centenary year, there will be a host of special events lined up to celebrate both the past and future of this unique restaurant.
We went to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday, for a pre-theatre lunch. We had a fabulous experience. The service was outstanding and our waiter/barman had an in-depth knowledge of the menu which was just what I needed as I am strictly gluten free. The food was delicious, the meat beautifully tender and cooked to perfection! The ambience was just what we needed and we were well looked after. We will definitely return again the future and would not hesitate in recommending The Ivy to friends and family.
Every time we have a theatre or opera/ ballet event the Ivy is my chosen venue. Food and service always amazing .. only slight disappointment this time was no venison on the menu... but other than that outstanding as always ... staff v friendly and helpful .. thanks for another fab experience.. Cate
Service was friendly and adequate. Food was over-rated, under cooked and over-priced.
Feel they are surviving on their name rather than on the food they serve. However the ambience was good, the restaurant was buzzing and the service friendly. Shame about the food!
I have enjoyed the Ivy very much before but this time I booked online and received a call just before leaving for it saying the system was down and the table wasn’t actually available to be booked. Was a disappointment for New Years Eve
Great evening at an iconic venue. Lovely food, wine and company. Sensible prices. Perfect service. What more could you want?
Didn’t realise we had booked the dining counter (it was our first visit) which turned out to be a very enjoyable experience. We will definitely go back. Staff and good all fantastic
Fantastic experience. Thank you.
Great service and tasty food
Excellent Service and Food. Fantastic Place. Extremely welcoming.
Amazing lunch in this jewel of a restaurant. The service, food, wine and setting are the best in London. Absolutely loved it. It was my partners birthday and this was very nicely recognised
Great food, though drinks/wine pricey but perhaps that’s just London..
The m'aitre d was very gracious and accommodating.
The entire service was very professional
The Ivy was fantastic - they sat us out the counter, shame.
Good variation in the menu. Food well presented and more importantly tasted great and cooked appropriately. Staff friendly.
We had a most enjoyable and memorable time at the ivy with 3 friends. The cuisine was excellent and we had a lovely table for 4. The ambience was very special and I look forward very much to returning with my husband /friends.
Surprise for the wife on a visit to London good vibes sat at the counter so there was a good place to see all the action she loved it expensive but well worth the experience would visit again
This was a present from our daughter and it was everything we expected and more, the ambiance food and staff were all amazing I can see why it has such a good reputation.
!Your reputation precedes you!
Great staff and excellent barman!
I accidently booked the Dining Counter, when I actually wanted a table in the restaurant. On arrival, the staff were happy to accommodate the change and seated us at a table within 15 minutes.
I went as a post-theatre dinner and drinks. The Ivy hit the spot perfectly for what we were looking for. The wine selection was fantastic. And the food was even better!
We stayed until passed midnight and were not the last to leave. The ambiance was perfect, the right level of busy and background chatter without feeling bustled about and overwhelmed.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a 2 hour dining experience, and willing to splash out from the pockets for fine wines. Great for an occasion too, since there is a dress code, or if you just want a reason to dress up then the Ivy is ideal.
First time at the Ivy, staff, food, wine and ambience all excellent.
Quite expensive but primarily due to the wine which at £80.00 was no where near the most expensive, but was really excellent (pinot noir).
From reception to the guys behind the bar, the staff were friendly, efficient and knowledgeable, particularly about the selection of wine.
Would definitely 're visit.
Perfect food wine and service. Till we meet again...counting down to going back
Excellent service and fabulous food - great location - did not disappoint
Fantastic - great customer service and food was out of this world!
Our very first visit and all the staff were very attentive and friendly. A perfect evening.
We were very much looking forward to visiting the Ivy as this was a special occasion. We were looked after well on arrival. Was expecting the menu to be more special and more fine dining - we both ordered fish but both were only ordinary! We noticed the price of dover sole was absolutely ridiculous! The staff were polite and busy but although we sat at the counter we were totally ignored when it came to deserts even though we were within their view! Overall we were disappointed with the outcome of the dining experience!
Dover sole was presented barely warm, grilled inadequately, taken off the bill
Nicholas and his team do a fantastic job, the two bar tenders Richard - Eduario - the front desk managers - are all first class - they know how to treat people and create a sublime experience.
Thoroughly enjoyed. A victory for taste and quality over tasteless quantity.
Congratulations to all staff whose professionalism was excellent. Unfortunately it will need to be an occasional treat for us as we live in Scotland!
Bar is the best place to have your meal if there’s 2 of you.
Really nice that staff noticed my daughter’s birthday. The chocolate truffles they gave here complimentarily were outstanding.
Fabulous food and service that’s why I keep coming back
Very enjoyable evening
Nice ambience. Great food. Good service. Lovely venue.
It's an iconic venue and the service was very good but sitting at the dining counter and spending quite a sizable amount on food (over £140 for two without alcohol) seemed wrong and it wasn't terribly comfortable. The surroundings are lovely but the ambient noise extremely loud - it seemed to be large groups day - but I am being churlish. The staff were lovely and the food very good overall.
Generally a good meal but nothing exceptional. It isn’t as good as it was and I have eaten better in the ivy city . The food was the issue nothing bad but M&S duck is as good !! Still a nice restaurant and I will return, but food needs improving. Should add that our starters were excellent .
Superb food. Beautiful decor. Very good service even at bar where we had lunch.
Good location for theatre. Worth a special trip.
This was the best meal we have enjoyed for several months. The food was uniformly excellent, sitting at the Dining Counter meant that our glasses were regularly replenished, and the ambience was pleasant and relaxed. The Ivy is long-established and well-known for its celebrity clientele, and this is not by any means a cheap place in which to eat, but we left feeling well-fed and contented, and one can hardly ask for more. We will return.
We have always wanted to try the Ivy after hearing so many good reviews about it.
As this was a very special birthday occasion I booked us in for lunch,we certainly weren't disappointed.
We arrived half an hour early and received a very warm welcome we were told we could either have a drink at the bar or go straight to the table we opted for the latter,we were given a very cosy corner table.
The menu had plenty of unusual choices,we both opted for the hake on squid ink risotto with additional vegetables which was cooked to perfection.
For desert we had the gooseberry waffle with clotted cream it was amazing and cocktails to finish.
The staff were very friendly and attentive and took the trouble to tell us the history if the Ivy,we spent three and a half hours thouroughly enjoying ourselves and would certainly recommend it to our family and friends it was everything we thought it would be and more.
Well what can i say, we went to celebrate our anniversary and this place didn’t disappoint.
We sat around the Bar area in the centre of the restaurant which was really comfortable and more private than you may imagine. The menu caters for everyone in my view, and is reasonably priced for a place of such stature in London. And it was excellent quality, some of the best food ive had.
Staff friendly and accommodating, and always on hand.
In addition its a great place to spot the odd celebrity, we met one on the day but I won’t mention who for the purpose of trhis review.
Can’t recommend highly enough.
Had a wonderful anniversary dinner here. I had the Duck L’orange which was absolutely delicious and my wife had the Shepard’s pie which she enjoyed just as much as I did the duck. The service was wonderful and the bartender who helped us with our dinner decisions made perfect recommendations. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in London!
We ordered marvelous cocktails at the bar before dinner. We were moved to other seats at the bar despite having reserved as the restaurant was "very busy". We loved talking with the bartender, who took our order. The food and service were excellent, and the bartender gave us a box of the excellent house chocolate truffles to take away. During the meal my husband went to the desk to see whether there were a reservation for the following night. The hostess told him "We're fully booked, but we'll make it work." Indeed, we had a table the next night, and another wonderful dinner. The lovely bartender appeared from behind the bar to shake my husband's hand and to see us off. We can hardly wait for our next visit to London.
