We are situated in a heritage laneway warehouse within the CBD of Ballarat, an easy seven minute walk from the train station. Find us tucked away in the nook of McKenzie Street.

The large open space indoors with natural skylights, indoor plants, wood fire and air con creates a relaxed vibe. The outdoor dining space under the umbrellas lends itself to feel glorious yet secluded as you look up the laneway to the hustle of Ballarats' streets. Taste a classic menu with a twist offering an all day breakfast and lunch.

We are proud to use local flavours and produce from the region alongside our house roasted coffee.

We have easy access for prams and wheelchairs, and can cater for dietary requirements with our versatile menu.

Quality of food at this venue has substantially dropped. This used to be an elite venue where the food was amazing. The venue has changed hands now and the kitchen staff seem to have been changed also as you can tell that the kitchen were cutting corners where possible. Instead of avocado mash (real avocado mashed up), the kitchen was using avocado out of a bottle that you could taste the difference and that had me running to the toilet as soon as my meal was done. The new owner had his family there and the staff were so preoccupied with making sure he was getting good service, that we sat at our table for a whilst before being served and had to go ask for glasses so we could drink the water in the bottle that they had put at our table. Chai late was very ordinary and the poached egg was so small, it would fit on a tea spoon. I used to love going here for a special treat however after my meal on Sunday, I won’t return again.

Unfortunately we didn’t enjoy our meal at the Hydrant today. We were left waiting for a very long time before a waitress finally came and took our order. Other tables who were seated after us were served before us. We weren’t given a specials menu. The coffees were all cold. A small milkshake was a couple of sips and it would have been appreciated if the waitress had not given the option of that size for an adult customer as it was definitely for children, or the size could have been explained. Portion sizes for some meals were very small but the food did taste nice. We had to ask for water as it wasn’t provided. The staff were polite enough but service was extremely slow and they weren’t overly busy. We used to love going there but unfortunately we can’t risk going back and having another experience like the one today.

Was a lovely lunch and atmosphere, menu was limited but still good. Service was outstanding, lovely young ladies.

Our service was extremely slow due to the fact the kitchen staff were two chefs down. Communication of the problem was very slow. It seems the ownership was transitioning after Sundays service and staff had all been let go. The FOH did their best in challenging circumstances. Food was great as usual as was the coffee. I hope the new management can get things going back to the normal high standard.

All of the food looked absolutely delicious! I got the croque madame and it was delightful. Servings are generous and the flavours absolutely pop, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was relaxed and cosy—amazing all around.

Food and coffee was amazing here! So good we got an extra take away coffee to go. Staff are friendly. I had the big Pipe and by big they weren't lying about being big, left feeling full and satisfied :) absolutely beautiful place highly recommend.

Took our kids her for the famous rainbow pancakes. Food was amazing. Love the vibe in the venue as well.
