The Huntington's Rose Garden Tea Room
Set within the historic Huntington Rose Garden, the Tea Room is now managed by Bon Appétit Management Company, and offers traditional tea table service, with fresh offerings made from scratch with local, seasonal, and sustainable ingredients. The Rose Garden Tea Room's elegant and memorable experience is inspired by the aristocratic tradition of English tea service with a distinctive California twist. Nibble on scones, delicate finger sandwiches, and seasonal desserts, accompanied by a selection of herbal and Fair Trade teas or sparkling wine. We are happy to try and accommodate dietary restrictions.
Reservations strongly recommended; walk-ins accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. For private events or large party reservations over 8 guests please email, email@example.com.
I went with my sisters and it was lovely. Our server was very attentive and the food was delicious. As far as the ambiance, the tables were a little close together. Even though we were there in plenty of time for our reservation, we did have to wait 20 minutes or so for our table. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.
Loved the different flavors of the tea and traditional tea foods. Just a perfect afternoon with a friend!
Really nice afternoon tea service with tasty light food. Follow this with a beautiful springtime walk in Huntington Gardens. Can't beat that!
Upon entering the Tea Room the staff was not very pleasant. In fact, it seemed as though we were doing them a favor by coming to the restaurant. They asked us to wait outside even though we had reservations.
Also, the Tea Room is extremely noisy. The music adds to the volume. When asked to turn down the music, they didn't. When asked to move to another room, they didn't accommodate us.
The Tea Room received a renovation a year or two ago. Now, the staff needs a renovation!
The atmosphere is calm and lovely. There is plenty of room around the tables and the service was quick and we didn’t wait long for our food. There were plenty of teas to choose from and the environment was calm and relaxing. There are beautiful views of the gardens from every window. Food was presented on a pretty tray and we lingered and never felt rushed. It’s a very enjoyable respite. I can’t wait to return
I brought a friend here who was visiting from Virginia. We loved it!
The Rose Garden Tea Room at the Huntington is an absolute treasure! The food is delicious and the service is outstanding!
This was my fifth time at The Tea Room and each visit has been exceptional. The menu has changed a
little but the stated items were wonderful! Never in my life would I have thought that I would enjoy an onion sandwich so much. The selection of items were mouth watering. Just wish we could have had more scones.
It should be noted that the cost of the garden should be added to cost of tea The front room is crowed the back room quiet Tea has a lot of variety The food is just ok not very much creativity or flavor Adequate quantity The chicken is more mayo then chicken and they are a bit heavy on the bread thickness The room is rather plain The gardens are nice but at this time of year very dormant If you wanted to see the Blue Boy it is being restored
The Tea Room is a nice splurge for a birthday or other special occasion. We had a lovely lunch for my daughter's birthday and our server was attentive and thoughtful. The tea tray was good (especially the scones and desserts) but the price, when added to admission to the Huntington, was a bit steep. Beautiful views of the gardens and the gorgeous room made it worth it, on the whole. We would consider returning for another special day.
We celebrated my mother-in- laws 70th birthday here. We had a reservation for 3pm and arrived at 2:50pm, but they didn’t sit us down until 3:15pm. It was unfortunate to wait, since I have three little boys. But overall service was great!
The experience was very nice overall. Our waiter was polished and attentive! The tables were set in a classy manner ( white linens, it was too close to the front door . Thank you for the lovely 2 hours there!’
It was a great experience today at the Huntington Tea Rose Garden. Our server, David was excellent. Professional, courteous and friendly! He took extra efforts to ensure our requests were met and answered any questions we posed. We were celebrating two birthdays (!) and he helped make our visit fun and memorable. Some of us had been here previously & we noticed a different selection of the tea (food) service, and he explained the different selections - all very enjoyable ! Thanks for helping make our birthday celebrations great !
Our group was running on time until we were held up at the entrance regarding our entrance stickers. We were unaware that we had to purchase entrance tickets to enjoy tea. Our group was in heals, very well dressed and certainly in no attire to visit the grounds. Tried calling the Tea Room several times to alert them of our delay so to NOT give our table away. NO ANSWER. Even went to the Reception desk (while sending someone to pay for our entrance fee) prior to entering the grounds and they too could NOT reach anyone on the phone. Very disappointing. When we finally arrived the gal at the front said "oh yes, we gave your table away, you'll have to wait outside until a table is available". I received two phone calls prior confirming my reservation and NOT once was I told or reminded a fee would need to be paid prior to entering the Tea Room. Please alert your guests. It would be nice to be well prepared!
David was a fabulous waiter. The food was very good. The only suggestion I have is to include whipped butter with the savory scones. I didn’t eat half of mine because I did not want to put a sugary spread on a cheese scone. A little cup of whipped butter would have been perfect.
Outstanding service, delicious food, and the wonderful environment of the garden...it's the perfect setting for an afternoon tea!
We were seated right away. The service was perfect. They didn’t rush us. The food was great. I highly recommend this place.
Wonderful food and great service. The food was delicious and filling. We didn’t have anything bad!
None of us had ever been to the Tea Room before. We were there to celebrate my daughter's 15th birthday with her 5 friends and her younger sister. The service was exceptional. I was worried that it would be snobbish and the food would be low quality, but our server was very attentive and helpful. He was very nice and provided fantastic customer service. The food was excellent and plentiful. We thought finger foods would leave us hungry, but there was plenty for all 8 of us and if we had asked, our server was ready to replenish anything we wanted. The tea selections were very nice as well. We had a 1:45 pm reservation and we were sat within 5 minutes of that time. We were not rushed either, which was very much appreciated.
I think the only thing that could have been better were the desserts. We had mini chocolate mouse cups which the kids didn't like because they were made with dark chocolate and we had mini fruit tarts which were just ok. The birthday girl was given her own cupcake and that was a nice touch. If I had known, I would have brought a birthday cake or something nicer to celebrate the occasion. But we had so much fun and enjoyed everything so much, that the absence of dessert was minor. It was also bit noisy, so it made some of us a little anxious. But, that's not something the Tea Room can control. All in all, it was a very memorable birthday and my daughter is still saying thank you after 3 days!!
Wonderful time, food was fantastic! My second visit, same waitress as last time, she was wonderful. Will for sure come again
Loved it! It was a real afternoon tea. Lovely service & food.
The rose garden at the Huntington Gardens is a great setting for tea. But the tea room itself needs some upgrading (cottage cheese ceilings and cold fluorescent lights ruins the beautiful view outside the window). The teas themselves were very good. But the sandwiches, scones and sweets were a underwhelming given the price. The whole thing was generally nice, mostly because we strolled the beautiful gardens before, but I was expecting more from the food.
Enjoyed the grounds and afternoon tea. It was very good!
Wonderful memories made! We all enjoyed the experience.
The food, staff, and service is outstanding. This place has excellent potential. The only thing that can be improved upon is the decor/design of the place. Its so plain, and could use some major color. That being said, the food is exquisite, the teas are all delicious and i would most def come back here.
Outstanding surroundings and atmosphere. Service and tea tray was fantastic
I had a nice time. The wait staff were all pleasant and friendly. I liked most of the food choices for the traditional menu. The cheddar, chive scones were to die for, the best part of the food.
I took my friend for her birthday and we had such a great time! The service was wonderful, teas and delicacies were delicious, ambience beautiful. Can’t wait to go back!
Food and tea were delicious.. the only thing is my daughter doesn’t do dairy so she opted for the vegan tea service and unfortunately most of the options were inedible. Cupcakes were so dry and crumbly, the bread rounds that the hummus was on flavorless and not pleasant. She was able to share with us so no worries. Service was great and we will definitely be back but will be skipping the vegan option in the future
Great rainy day.
The Huntington puts on a fine tea. A bit pricy, but everything excellent in quality. Nice quiet dining room and pleasing surroundings.
Everything was excellent, as it always is! Service, atmosphere, quality of food — really nice time!
very nice experience ! we loved the whole thing, the visit of the garden, this very nice place, the food but more than anything the wonderful people working there !
I hadn't eaten there in years, and it was a delight! Just enough for a light lunch, if you don't mind half your lunch being on the sweet side. Plenty of tea to enjoy, and a lovely room. Great to hang out and catch up with a friend.
Priced high which would be ok if they allowed one to select what they liked for sandwiches and desserts
The room was a lot smaller than I expected from what I saw of pictures. The pictures posted aren't representative of the size of the room.
It also didn't feel as elegant as I was expecting from a tea room.
Good experience, but there was a little girls birthday party and it was very noisy.
I really loved it! Great place for a bridal shower, birthdays etc..
Beautiful gardens. Love this place
The total experience was very lovely. We were disappointed in the tea and food offerings. They seemed tired and nothing new had been added since our last visit in November. But the ambiance and friendly service was good.
