The Huntington's Rose Garden Tea Room
The Tea Rooms elegant and memorable experience is inspired by the aristocratic tradition of English tea service with a distinctive California twist. Reservations strongly recommended; walk-ins accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Saturday- Sunday: 10:30AM-5PM
Server was very polite and explained the menu very well. The food was excellent and we were able to indulge ourselves in the view of the gardens just outside.
The afternoon tea is delicious - from scones to sandwiches to pastries. Slam dunk!
It's a nice place to take out of town visitors for lunch. Unfortunately, our visit followed the tremendous heat wave that burned much of the garden's plantings. That was very disappointing, but, couldn't be helped. The tea room's menu makes it look like more food than it is in actuality. Fine for a woman's appetite, but might be a little light for a grown man. I do like that the service style has been changed and you have eliminated that center lazy susan table where everyone had to get up and get their own food.
My son, daughter-in-law and I had a wonderful time on Sunday afternoon. Our table was immediately available. Our server was very personable and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the great food and relaxed time with no feeling of being rushed.
Focuses on scones, finger sandwiches, lemon curds, plain and herbed butter as well as finger desserts with a fine variety of teas to choose. Delightful time!
My friend and I met at the Huntington Rose Garden Tea Room to celebrate her birthday. Our server, a charming young lady with a lovely smile, was friendly and attentive. She described each item on the tiered serving dish and answered all our questions. Our favorites were the smoked salmon with caviar and chicken salad tea sandwiches. We found the Huntington Blend tea served over ice pleasantly refreshing. My friend was delighted when our server presented her with a birthday cupcake adorned with a lit candle and chocolate medallions at the conclusion of our tea. It was a lovely afternoon.
I loved this place !! Such a treat ! Bring your walking shoes !
Not our first visit to the tea room and definitely not our last. We enjoyed the whole experience!
Outside of the admission fee of entering the garden, and the long walk to the tea room, the overall dining experience was ok but not great. Food is fair. Due to shift change they forgot to call us to be seated for our table for over 30 min
Everything was wonderful besides the rude power trip hostess who wanted us to wait outside in the 100 degree heat while they prepared our table. I refused the second time we came inside after being in the hot sun for 15 minutes and she finally let us sit down while they set up.
Outstanding vegan menu.
It was a very hot day, 113F. So when our reservation wasn’t ready and they made us wait outside in the heat the experience started off on the wrong foot. They were using a new teapot which appeared to be leaking on the table. At one point someone began running a push (silent) vacuum around our table. And the food was not worth it. I’ve had better At Shakespeare’s in San Diego.
One good thing was their signature tea, a fuller experience than an Early Grey if that’s what your looking for.
Would not recommend this place. You have to pay entrance into the park and on top of the tea room prices you could do better.
The tea sandwiches and mini desserts were delicious and our waitress was very friendly. I choose the Huntington Special Blend tea and it is the best tea I’ve ever had. I will definitely be back.
The tea room was a very nice experience for a first time. The room was cozy and friendly and the service was great.
Nice tea service with a good selection of teas. There is more than enough food- and diners do not feel rushed to eat. Their are scones- savory sandwiches and sweet desserts. The trays are pre made so the servers have an easy task.
This was the first time my husband had been to Tea. He had an enjoyable experience, much different than when he thought it would be. The ambience was perfect. The scones were hot and soft, delicious. They melted in your mouth. The sandwiches were beautifully presented and delicious. Excellent variety of petite fours for dessert. Something for everyone’s taste. The service was superb . I would recommend the teahouse to all of my friends.
The tea room is a lovely respite from the heat of the garden. However, reservations are a MUST which many people do not know. Consequently, they are turned away at the door.
The Traditional Tea is more than adequate in terms of the variety of sandwiches and desserts. However, they are rather frugal w/ the condiments. The clotted cream, jam, lemon curd, etc. servings amounted to about a teaspoon for the four of us. I had to request another serving. That seemed a bit stingy on their part considering what we were paying for the tea.
There were a lot of very young children which is not ideal for those of us who would prefer a more serene atmosphere. The Tea Room does its best to accommodate the palates of the youngsters, which was admirable.
Perhaps because it was a busy day, I felt rushed by the service. Admittedly, we were a bit late for our reservation because their is only one shuttle and it had to accommodate too many visitors. For those w/ walking/accessibility problems, note that the tea room is quite far from the entrance, a good 10 minute walk which is not trivial for someone in their 80's and temperatures in the 90's.
Despite its shortcomings, I would return for tea as it is a lovely respite from a visit to the garden. It is also a lovely way to entertain guests or celebrate a special occasion for the sedate senior in your family.
We took two 11-YO girls to the tea room. All four of us loved it there! The tea, sandwiches, and desserts were very good. Great ambiance. The gardens are amazing. Definitely worth a visit.
Really sweet retreat during midday, midgarden roaming!
Good tea, great savory and sweet treats. Kind and friendly service.
As a person raised in the Common Weath I need a little britty tea service fix from time to time and this place hit the spot.
There are two rooms, the first being the lively main dining room and the second a quiet and smaller room overlooking the herb garden. If making a reservation I recommend requesting the room and thus atmosphere you prefer.
It was just right for the family to celebrate my wife’s birthday. She loves “teas” and for me this was one of the best. It was not over-the-top sweets and nicely presented. Service was just right for attentiveness .
This was an AMAZING experience. The tea - WOW - the BEST TEA I have ever tasted, with the most FRAGRANT aroma, in my life! ( I choose the Signature Bled, by the way.) The foods which accompanied the teas were all excellent, VERY HIGH QUALITY, whether sweet or savory.
Lovely experience. The tea and food was delicious. Very enjoyable for a day at the gardens.
The tea room is great. The food is good & a good value, the service is excellent.
My wife loves this place for all occasions & we like to take friends, all that makes it a never fail winner.
You add the gardens, library & exhibits, I had a great time.
Delightful experience. Our waiter, John, was outstanding and very efficient. The food selections were terrific.
My friends and I always have tea whenever we are at the Huntington! Service is amazing!
This is my favorite place for tea. My daughter and I always make a special day out of our visit to the gardens by including tea. The tea room is charming and the service always spectacular. Always decadent to add a glass of bubbly to our tea service. Thank you doing tea in the traditional way. We will be back over and over and over again.
Good food, great tea and service. Comparable to the other popular tea houses in Pasadena and surrounding areas.
It’s always a great place but the food seems to have gone down a bit. They must have changed chefs or food services.
nice food ，nice view。
Love the new high tea menu at Huntington. A delish assortment that was adjusted to the needs of the party. The blushing rose prosecco is exceptional. We will return. Well worth the trip. Plus we had time in the gardens!! Perfect afternoon.
The sandwiches were great but the dessert really needs to be refined - right now just a bunch of sugar and not special at all. Also, some of the waiters were really snooty for no apparent reason. Our waitress was great but the ambiance is not the same as a year ago.
The gardens are so beautiful. I wish the tea room was decorated nicely. So much potential but the decor is really unappealing. Please at least change the chairs. The food is just mediocre. Overall it's fine, if you're at the gardens is it fun to try once but really too expensive for what it is.
The spacing among the tables were a bit crowded. The food was average considered the price was higher on top of the admission than other tea rooms in the surrounding areas. Among the sandwiches and desserts on the tier trays, the sconces were the worst; it fell apart with the slightest touch and were dry and tasteless. It was a disappointment considered scones are one of the signature item for the English afternoon tea. Both the signature blend and Garden of Eden tea were fragrant and nice.
Beautiful location at the Huntington Library rose garden. Great traditional tea service with wonderful sandwiches and tea selection. Also offer a nice selection of wines although they are a little pricey.
We came to thank my fiance's maids of honor for putting on an engagement party. The service was outstanding and the food was very good but a bit pricey when you add the price of admission to the cost of the meals. Granted we did enjoy the gardens as well but all in all admission should be included when getting the full tea service. I would definitely recommend it with that caution.
We came for my birthday. I especially wanted my 10 year old daughter to experience an afternoon tea. The sandwiches were hit and miss but the rest of the food was good. The tea selection and quality was exceptional. My family enjoyed themselves.
I have been to the Huntington Library and Gardens several times over the years but never managed to get a table in the Tea House (I always forgot to call ahead). It was a simple, cute room, but surprisingly noisy, despite being carpeted. We enjoyed ourselves tremendously and the food was good, but I don't think it warranted a $35 per person price. But, I'm picky about my food. The service was excellent. I would recommend it to others to try, but for me it was a one-time thing. I'm glad I went, but next time I will stick to the other dining options at the Gardens.
I've been going to high tea at the Huntington for many years and always found it delightful. I hadn't been in about a year and a half and was very disappointed when I went this past Saturday. There is no longer a buffet at which one can choose from available finger sandwiches, fruit and desserts. I'm not a dessert person, so I have always enjoyed the sandwiches. I didn't even mind when a selection of Chinese food was added to the buffet, despite it not being an appropriate high tea offering. However, now one is delivered a 3-tier tray of one of each of a very small selection of sandwiches, desserts and two types of scone. Very disappointing. The tea used to be a very good value -- it no longer is and I am sorry that I won't be going back. This is definitely an unfortunate change in approach.
I’ve been eating at the tearoom for many years. Sadly, the quality of the food has continued to decline over the past couple of years. The outside ambience still makes it one of my faves for a special occasion, but I’m hoping the quality of the food will improve soon. Hopefully, this is helpful feedback.
