The Huntington's Rose Garden Tea Room
The Tea Rooms elegant and memorable experience is inspired by the aristocratic tradition of English tea service with a distinctive California twist. Nibble on scones, delicate finger sandwiches, and seasonal desserts, accompanied by a selection of herbal and Fair Trade teas or sparkling wine. We are happy to accommodate dietary restrictions. Reservations strongly recommended; walk-ins accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please keep in mind that admission to the grounds is required for all guests.
Felt hurried by our waiter.
Got 4 of the same sandwiches. Less variety.
Miss the all you can eat, miss the cookies...
Overall not the same as before.
Excellent service! They had provided me with a delicious birthday cake dessert. They made my celebration memorable.
A fabulous restaurant. Much enjoyed. A great place for brunch, afternoon tea.
Kimberly the waitress I had was amazing. She was very knowledgeable about the teas and had such a funny energetic personality which I enjoyed very much so. I enjoyed the menu, the scones were delicious and I would say try the salad! I would definitely recommend the Tea Room. Give it a try. Totally worth the trip.
Know it’s $36 minimum per person.
For decades, visits here are ones of merit realizing "The Huntington Library" to be a respite for witty exchanges with UCLA/USC mavens, family, friends, interviewees, business and personal acquaintances. Many lovely starts happen in the "merveilleux jardins" of Henry and Arabella Huntington.
Little kindnesses by Executive Jeff Thurston and Rose Garden Tea Room Chef Claudia Engle were "petit apples diced topped with cinnamon." Seating was in the West Room---close to the fireplace with natural light flooding our table as red roses lay silently in water caressed by a shiny white china teapot.
Traditional English tea was presented in a metallic pot and the tiny morsels of hand-crafted excellence came on a three-tiered tray. Scones were at the top and warm. Condiments in china ramekins are raspberry jam, lemon curd and clotted cream. Hope to meet/photograph Jeff and Claudia. Bravo!
We had a great lunch at the Rose Garden. The ambiance, food and tea was lovely.
The food was good and the service was awesome. I was disappointed in the ambiance. The tables were close and we were seated by the front door. There were no draperies. It wasn’t intimate. I’m glad we did the tea, but I wouldn’t do it again.
I love the Rose Garden Tea Room because it is located inside of the Huntington Library, so going there is like two dates in one. I think it's just the right amount of delicious bites for an afternoon tea. The service is pretty meh at times, but they tend to be busy and somewhat understaffed and do wonderful with that in mind.
We loved this place. Our server was really lovely.
It was lovely however
Our server with his tattoos did not seem to fit the ambiance
Tea Water was served warm on refill
Scones were missing on the tray so thoroughness may have been lacking
This was a first time having this kind of service. I have been several times to have tea and every time it was at the level of Huntington Quality and that is , exceptional
We enjoyed the atmosphere and it made for a very special time.
We used to come here every year but stopped for a while. Seems like it's declined quite a bit in quality. It's worth trying out just not sure I'd go again.
I enjoyed the experience, but I was surprised at the price. $37 per person is high for finger sandwiches and a pot of tea. IMHO.
Also there's no point to displaying directional signage if it can't be seen.
Flexibility in dealing with garlic and onion sustitutes since I am vegetatian and have allergy on garlic ,onion ,scallion and leek .
Slightly larger table to accommodate the tea sets and cake display
Improvement on the escorting as we were seated at the far back behind the swing door which they thought that was kitchen door .
Our party of 8 was well taken care of! We were all vegan, and the server and host were so respectful and helpful. The vegan tea offered scones, 4-5 savory items and 3-4 sweet items. I enjoyed each selection, and the presentation was so pretty. I look forward to returning!
Menu changes meant prosecco did come with meal, but was an additional charge. This was disappointing. Otherwise, the experience was fun.
We had a wonderful meal. The service was excellent, and the food was great!
Delicious food and good service~ love it!
Went for my birthday, and felt so spoiled. The service was fantastic, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was so in keeping with the entire park itself. It was a lovely experience!
I was a bit disappointed that the tea room has eliminated the buffet they had the last time I visited. Still, I enjoyed the tea service. It's a bit pricey to be more than an occasional treat, but I would recommend it.
The servers were so welcoming and had a great sense of humor. They accommodated our requests and we’re extra sweet to a 13 year old boy who didn’t want to be there. It was a great experience.
Amazing experience, best outside London!
Wonderful Nee Years Day tea with family.
We had tea on New Year’s Day. The tea and food was great. The Huntington Tea room sources their ingredients within 100 mile radius as part of the farm to table movement. The teas are outstanding, and from LA’s the Art of Tea.
I thought everything was fresh and delicious and the atmosphere was gracious.
I recommend making reservations and asking for extra Devonshire cream and preserves when you place your order.
The scones are authentic and lovely- *(It may be valuable to forget Starbucks scones and the like...if this has been your only previous scone experience . Scones are not supposed to be gooey.) Enjoy!
This was my 3rd time doing tea here- with different people, for different occasions every time. It's been a delight every time! Our server was incredible- she was so knowledgeable about the teas and food, and took a variety of photos of the two of us, let us chat as we had our meal, and kept our (absolutely delicious!) tea warm! I love bringing people for tea here!
I had the most wonderful time for my birthday with a couple of girlfriends. We each got the holiday tea, with one vegetarian option. All of the sandwiches were yummy and well made. The deviled eggs were our absolute favorite. The Prosecco was a plus!It was fun getting to try the different teas and our server Edgar was very helpful guiding us to pick our selection as well as keeping our hot water fresh. We loved the Huntington signature so much we took some home from the gift shop. The Aztec spice tea is spectacular as well. We each left happy little campers. Thank you for a great time!
What a delightful afternoon tea! They are very accommodating with their menu even fr a gluten free gal like me!
Holiday Tea at the Huntington Tea Room is a great way to get together with friends and family to celebrate surrounded by the beautiful Huntington Gardens!
Took my husband and brother-in-law here for hi tea. We had a great time
I really enjoyed bringing my friend here for afternoon tea! The Signature Huntington Tea blend is hands down my favorite tea, and all the little sandwiches and treats were delicious!
Server was very attentive.
Only downside was that after circling for 25 minutes, and even though we had a handicap placard, we had to park out on the street because the parking at the Huntington was completely full. Lesson learned was either not to book at holiday time or come an hour earlier to have time to find parking within the site during the holidays.
The scones were lovely -- and the chives savory scone was amazing. The sandwiches selection was very good, and it was nice to have a mini quiche to break it up. The sweet selection was not as tasty as the savory and the scones.
Overall I think the environment is a bit too loud and bustling to go from a good tea to a great tea. The room and service entrance are not well laid out -- so the server traffic is disruptive rather than discreet.
I love having tea here. I do feel however, the quality of the tea sandwiches and pastries has diminished in the last year. We found our tea sandwiches to be dry and did not seem fresh. The scones were not warm and dry as well. It's a. For the price, this time, we felt it was unwarranted to pay almost $100.00 including tip for dry tea cakes.
The noise level was a bit high for me, but overall a nice experience.
Great service and a delightful tea experience. Our server truly cared that our time there be the best possible.
Food was decent and a bit creative although not exceptional. Service was fine. Ambiance was nice though, again, not exceptionally so. Afternoon tea at the Huntington is a "thing to do," an experience. The biggest negative is that value provided relative to price is rather poor. With tax & tip, cost = almost $100 for two. For THAT price, one should receive a full-on first class meal rather than merely high tea tidbits.
Tea room looks a bit tired and in need of a refresh. Service was good but the food is uninspired. Sandwiches were dry and boring. Sweets were too sweet. Huntington blend tea was nice with well-rounded and smooth flavor and went nicely with the scones which were the only thing I wanted a second of.
Tea at the Huntington is always an elegant affair. A lot of my reaction is based on my previous experiences. In the past, the meal was a buffet, with the servers serving only teas and scones. The buffet is now gone, and with it the great variety of foods, such as fruits, salads, cheeses, and desserts that it use to offer. So that was something of a letdown. The menu that took its place still provided a small variety of little sandwiches and a few sweets. I had not been there for a few years, and the price had been taken a hit with inflation. So I guess it is worth it for an occasional indulgence. But I miss the old buffet.
Absolutely wonderful!! It was my daughters first tea, she’s five!
My mother in law’s 80th birthday celebration. They were extremely attentive and thoughtful. Beautiful setting.
