Went for a business dinner - food and service was excellent. Ambiance was warm and cozy, nice music in the background. Price can be quite expensive but worth it. Highly recommend.

Absolutely amazing experience. The food was delicious, the wine was excellent, but above everything else the service was the best I have ever had. Very attentive waitstaff who made us feel welcome and cared for.

What a wonderful restaurant. Our server Carlos was fantastic, a complete pro. Started with Deviled Egg Tasting with caviar creme fraiche, jalapeno, lobster and bacon topping, Burrata with persimmon, bottarga, micro herbs, and pickled onions. A half dozen east and west coast oysters. Delicious! Our main course were Braised Short Ribs Au Poivre with farro, cipollini, green peppercorn jus.Super tender. Cassoulet with duck confit, garlic sausage, lamb shoulder, and northern beans.Very creamy and tasty. Dessert was Chocolate Mousse cake. It was an anniversary dinner and we were treated like royalty. Just a great dinner Thank you

We chose to spend our Easter Brunch at The House and we were not disappointed. Vincent, our server, was busy yet very personable and courteous. We wanted for nothing since it was all quickly presented, and with a smile. Great service. Wonderful food. Really a fabulous experience. I hadn't been for awhile but look forward to returning again soon. Thanks to the entire staff for making food so great that we overate then spent the next 6 hours walking it off. (truth) So good.

The prosecco and mimosas were warm and the french toast was cold. Not how we wanted to spend Easter brunch.

Beautiful space, great service, and wonderful food and drinks.
Only caution is that it is very small. Downstairs bar with fireplace can be very noisy.
Drinks and apps during happy hour at the bar were fantastic, but it did get loud.
Moved upstairs for dinner and were only with 4 others at the time, so it was very peaceful.
May be a little pricey, but not overly high and certainly worth it. Highly recommended!

The restaurant was so beautiful, and the staff (except for the hostess, who maybe just isn't very talkative) were all warm and friendly. The food was superb--easily the best steak I've ever had. And it provided an extra romantic setting for our anniversary--my boyfriend proposed when we got home!

First visit to New York. Initial research in planning for the visit suggested this would be an interesting restaurant to try. We were not disappointed. Really neat restaurant in an old carriage house. Food was excellent. Service very good and low key. What we like. My wife had the cod and I had the scallops Both prepared perfectly. Pouilly Fume excellent wine to accompany the food. Will be on our restaurant list for the next visit.

Started with two glasses of water both filthy with some unknown pulpy substance floating in both (it wasn’t lemon water; just filthy). Then before the main dishes arrived we were overwhelmed by the smell of gas leaking from the nearby fireplace, which they had to turn off. Then the eggs Benedict arrived, improperly cooked with hard yokes, and cold. Then we smelled something like Raid inspect killer wafting from the kitchen. Horrible experience in a charming building. Never going back, what a shame. At least the waiter comped the bottled water after we sent back the dirty tap water.

I really like going to the House. Everything is nice there: from the decor that does look like a real house, making it feel really cosy, to the staff who is so friendly and warm. It's a really nice moment!
I took my friend who just moved from Paris and that was the first restaurant I took her too.
Thumbs up to everyone at The House!

Unfortunately, our experience was a negative one. Up front it must be said that this was in no way due to the quality of the food, or the service, both of which were of high quality.
We went to The House for our anniversary dinner, based in several reviews indicating it was a good venue for a romantic dinner.
Our experience was that the restaurant was way too noisy and th ambiance anything but ‘romantic’. Being that the main dining area is relatively small ) it being a converted town house) the tables are compressed-way too close together. Also the hardwood floors and the ceiling have not been soundproofed, so the result is that noise reverberates throughout the room. It also didn’t help that the next table was quite ‘over the top’ (alcohol-wise).
Foot was of high quality, albeit the servings wee in the smallish side and the prices high for the quantity served.
On the positive side the servers were very professional but their efforts could not make up for the ‘assaultive’ Moodiness of the place.
Will not return.

We had a delicious brunch- superior food quality with fresh ingredients in a truly charming interior that felt like a bit of New York history. We will definitely go back. I would also like to try it for dinner.

Although the restaurant is located within a beautiful townhouse on a scenic side street near the park, the positives of the experience about end there. The food was very poor quality and expensive, given the taste.

We had braised wild mushrooms with truffle for the appetizer. The mushrooms were submerged within a purée that was flavorless and soggy...which is surprising how weak the flavor was given that there was truffle in the mix.

For dinner we had a strip steak. We asked for it pink. The sauce it was marinated in was ok, but the piece of meat was fatty and very over-cooked. Only the center was pink. The rest was cooked to brownish gray. Also the potatoes that came on the side were flavorless, like the starter course.

Finished with a warm apple pie/pastry type desert. Again, the flavors were very weak, and the pastry bread that it came baked in was hard and cardboard-like.

For three not-so-great courses and a glass of wine it came to $155 per person after tip.

Although the charm of the building and it’s location are alluring, there are many tastier alternatives in other cozy spots throughout downtown. Not worth the visit.

My wife and I had been wanting to eat at The House for a while. So, when they had reservations available for Valentines Day, we jumped on it. Here are our impressions:

First, the food was fantastic! I had the short rib and my wife had scallops. Both were delicious. The only drawback was that, for Valentines Day, they offered only a prefix menu. It was $100 per person. So, when we added a bottle of wine, our bill exceeded $300. Steep, yes, but whatever it was a special occasion.

The service was also very good. The hostess was a little abrupt, but our waiter was great.

Here’s the thing though: The House seems really cool because it’s a restaurant situated inside a quaint little house in the middle of New York City. But, when you eat there, you quickly realize that it’s a restaurant situated inside a quaint LITTLE house in the middle of New York City. It’s a very tight fit. My wife and I sat at a table in what was the basement, squeezed between three other couples directly across from the semi-open kitchen — not horrible, but not great either.

Overall, we’d go back — the food was seriously that good. But, we’d definitely aim for a date when the place is a little less crowded.

This restaurant is NOT offering restaurant week even though there is a restaurant week lunch menu published on open table and nycgo. We requested the items on the menu as they basically told us that they didn’t have the ingredients so we couldn’t order those dishes. The waiter graciously offered our first round of drinks on the house but we still felt duped since we came for the parsnip soup and risotto.

Very bad experience. They were not fully open at the time of my reservation and the whole staff used the first floor as the staff hangout. Reservation was at 11, I walked into the restaurant at the same time as the hostess at 10:58. We had to get out of our seats to ask for anything we needed (water, coffee, spoons for the coffee, when we were ready to order, etc...). They were folding piles of laundered napkins on the bar/bar stools and were opening the bar/restocking the Bar our whole meal. There were only 4 of us for brunch but 2 meals came out first and the other 2 didn’t come out until 5 minutes later which was very awkward. The food wasn’t great, much better places in Gramercy!

I happened to book for restaurant week but they didn’t have a restaurant week menu so we ordered from the regular menu.

VERY DISAPPOINTED with our visit on Saturday night. Had booked a table for a special birthday celebration and we were seated at a high top table in the bar. When I explained the situation to the manager he was not particularly interested and when I asked why my reservation for a table in the restaurant, which is upstairs, was filled with a high top in the bar, he said Saturday night was very busy and shrugged. The restaurant had the opportunity to explain we would be eating in the bar with they called to confirm on Friday. The food was fine but it was not the special occasion it was meant to be. Disappointed in their lack of customer service.

The restaurant is small, cozy. The upstairs is very nice. The bar area on the main level is more casual with high tables. Didn’t get to see the downstairs. I had soup and chicken. Both were excellent. My wife had the lasagna. It was flavorful. She liked it very much. The waiter and staff were very courteous and accommodating. I just had a knee operation and they found me a comfortable table. The lasagna was just a little late coming out of the kitchen and they comped it when they really didn’t have too. Overall a very nice experience.
