The Hourly Oyster House
We actually went here for two out of our three nights in Boston! Great food, service and ambience.
The Lobster Roll and the Calamari are outstanding! Enjoy!
I’ve been here several times for both both business and personal. While nothing was outright bad this time, it also wasn’t good. The grilled octopus app was silly. Just 2 slivers of octopus atop a tomato/olive salad. The salmon was fine, although I contend you can cook salmon well done (white all the way through) without drying it out much. Not on this day. Our seating location was cold with the door left open. I should have asked them to shut the door, so that’s on me.
We had the seafood tower and dinner entrees.
Seafood tower was very nice, good selection and ample quantity.
Entrees were good, with one exception:
the eggplant was inedible; very tough and rubbery and had to be sent away.
No time for a replacement meal.
Sirloin steaks were not fabulous, but were good.
Overall, however, thoroughly enjoyed the venue and most of the food and would definitely go again.
The Brazino roasted in salt with smoked tomato butter was some of the best fish I've had anywhere in the world. The Mookie Blues fresh oysters are our favorite. Service is a bit slow but helpful.
Pretty average all around. Nothing special or novel or even very interesting. Bland
Very delicious. Oysters and lobster are great! Friendly service.
The one thing the Hourly Oyster House going for it is location. The whole belly clams were horrible. Eight or Nine Clams burnt to a crisp with little or no bellys. The fries were cold. The paella had little on nor chirizo and was poorly presented. If you are only stopping in for a drink the rose sangria was very refreshing. Avoid unless you are only stopping in to meet friends at the bar.
The only downside is the food was so good we ate too much!
The Hourly is one of my fave places! Always a great time there!!
Very nice restaurant. They had 6 different oysters to choose from, all amazing. I had the salt baked bronzini and it was spectacular. The acoustics are very good. There was nice music and we could have a conversation.
This is a busy restaurant with excellent seafood. I have enjoyed the oysters, fish and chips and salmon. Their volume means all the fish is very fresh. They have a great selection of wines by the glass, especially whites to go with the seafood. The service is friendly. The kitchen and menu are organized to get the food out quickly so you can drop by for dinner before a movie or concert and not worry about being late to your next stop.
Overall one of the best dining options in Harvard Square.
5 People got crammed into a booth that was a bit too small. Pretty noisy.
Great neighborhood gem!
The hourly oyster bar is one of my fav spots in Harvard Square. The oysters are always fresh and the wait staff is always very kind. Get the Hourly Lobster Roll for the free pastry next door. Amazing
Great service and atmosphere, location right by Harvard Square is perfect.
The food was outstanding and service was great. The only reason I wouldn’t give this five stars is because it was extremely noisy, even sitting in the corner of the restaurant.
Great spot... oysters
Food, wine list, ambiance all outstanding. Perfect for foodies looking for a fresh and creative take on seafood. Will be back soon!
The food value, service, and ambiance melded into a pleasurable dining experience.
This food is way too salty!!!!
I don’t understand why you are doing this salt thing!
I have had lots of salt on specific dishes, but this is awful.
Something to see in Boston. Food is good but the place is very loud.
Great place for oysters and seafood in Harvard Square. The scallops were amazing.
Hourly is always one of my daughter and mu favorite restaurants. The Mookie Blue oysters are exceptional - briny, succulent and full-bodied. We tried the "Composed Oysters" which were special and distinctive. The Pepper-Crusted Tuna BLT is a tremendous value with plentiful French Fries and a healthy salad.
The food was excellent especially the seafood platter. I've had quite a few seafood platters from many restaurants, and the one from Hourly Oyster House is by far my favorite in terms of quality, variety, and taste. The seafood salad was very nicely done, just enough mayo. The mussels were well prepared with a salsa like topping.
Great spot, highly recommended for all seafood lovers
Excellent! The oysters are fantastic and loved the fried clams. Our serving staff was very attentive. Would definitely come back!
We brought our grandchildren who did not find the meal very palatable. Too much fried food and overwhelming amount of French fRies.
Calimari was interesting, but not to our taste and lobster rolls were not very full of lobster.
Service was excellent. Noise level was high, making conversation difficult to hear. Food was good but portions were small for the price. Selection was limited but quality of the food was good.
Overall the experience was great. Food was a bit salty and calamari were rubbery. But, the service was great and the almond cake dessert was yummy.
I've never had such a mixed experience at a restaurant before. Some dishes stood out as really good but most were mediocre or fell flat. The cocktails I ordered was also fairly undrinkable. I would return for the raw bar perhaps but not for dinner.
Paella rice was undercooked. Ceviche was ok but it didn’t have any interesting taste
Great experience! Went for a date night, staff could not have been nicer. Food came out in reasonable time and was exactly what we wanted. Good buzz, not too loud. Overall, would definitely come back again.
Food was very good. Ambiance was fun and lively. Enjoyed our visit.
Far too many carbohydrates and pot food quality. Ran out of desserts!
The food was great. We had a good time. The service was good.
Service, food, and drink were all great! For apps, we had oysters (tried them all!) and tuna poke. For our entrees, we ordered the scallops and Bronzini. All of it was delicious - especially the Bronzini. The smoked tomato butter sauce they pair it with is ahhhmazing. Oh, and the homemade potato chips are dangerously good.
The drink menu, which we had quite a few each, was fun and unique. Tried different drinks each round and were not disappointed.
Our service was on point. The bartenders, our server, and all of the supporting cast took very good care of us.
All in all, I really recommend The Hourly Oyster House and look forward to returning.
One of our favorite restaurants of late and our go-to for pre -concert or pre-theater meals.
First time trying oysters: the bartender was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and did an excellent job directing me toward good places to begin.
Delicious haddock sandwich, amazing tuna BLT and yummy kids fish and chips! Nice find. Head over to Mike’s Pastry next door for a cannoli to round out your meal and belly.
We had a wonderful experience! The oysters were delicious and our server was awesome. We went for Valentine’s Day and the recommended specials were incredible and unique. Can’t wait to go back.
