the Hook & Plow - Redondo Beach
Everything was good except the little biting flies in the turf in the outdoor dining are. So bad that at one time everyone was spraying off on their feet and ankles. They should treat the turf.
Thank you Maia and Madi for your excellent service
the staff was very accommodating and most of the food was quite tasty. The fries and avocado were excellent. The brussel sprouts were meh. Overall a very nice experience.
Wonderfully consistent food quality and choice . One of out neighborhood favorites!!
Drinks are extremely weak & full of sugar. Also, I sent an entire full drink back because it was too sweet and too weak and and they still charged the full amount . Food was good
Excellent menu, great siting outdoors. We had the rib eye (amazing), the chicken (also tender and tasty), and the sea bass (my dad loved it)! Highly recommend this eatery.
The food is excellent and service is great too. Love this place.
This is a great go to spot for the atmosphere, service and the food is always delicious.
Nice outdoor seating, good service. Disappointed there were a few menu items not available. Understandable coming the day after a holiday. Good Brussel sprouts, great peach dessert. Perfect Old Fashion from the bar, nice beer and wine selection.
It took 20 minutes at least to receive our drinks. The food was nothing special. We ordered the churros at the end and the ice cream had frost bite. I think this is our last time donating to this restaurant.
Costed $260, not including tip, for 5 drinks, 1 crab cake, catch of the day dinner, ribeye dinner. Very pricey, but is good quality and tasty food.
Service was above excellent . Every dish we ordered was tasty . We will be back soon.
Service was ok. Food and drinks took a while. French fries were the only decent thing. My burrata sandwich was soggy. My husband’s burger was also soggy. We were sat inside even though our reservations were for outside. It was humid inside for some reason.
We ordered an appetizer and waited about 25 minutes and no appetizer or waiter to follow-up on our dinner order. When we asked for our waiter he served other tables before he came over and then said the appetizer must have been served to another table.
We then asked for our check for beverages and left to go elsewhere!
Great all around experience, but it can get pricey
Wasn't that busy and took almost 45 minutes to get a cheese board out to the table, and they charge $4 for "extra" proscuito which amounts to 2 bite size pieces. Buger and a crabcake took another 30-40 minutes. Not a complainer and still a fan but they need to step up their game a bit.
Just dinner with my kiddo !
My husband and another couple and I went to the Hook and Plow for dinner and it was lovely! The food was delicious and the service was stellar. Only a four minute walk to the beach and lots to look at and do the area! It’s a must!!!
Overall good. We had ahi sandwich and kale salad with salmon along with a side of fries. Food was pretty good. Also had 2 glasses of house wine and one beer. Total bill was $92 including tip. Pretty expensive give casual nature of this place.
I paid for a full size salad and I got half a salad not what I expect from Hook and plow.
The food was delicious!
Never been here and decided to try. Celebrating my college senior return to school. Food was good. I had the chicken. My husband and daughter both tried the fresh catch which was sea bass. They both said amazing. My chicken had a creamy sauce with croutons - delicious but heavy. I had stomach ache later that night. I ate about 1/2. It’s more crowded than I expected - tables pretty close together, noisy. A little more space would’ve been good. Our server was excellent. We’d try again sometime and maybe get a better table.
Our server Mattie was wonderful and had perfect timing on everything. The food was fabulous I ordered the peach salad with chicken. Excellent- the coffee press and bread pudding were also amazing. Thank you! There is lots of outdoor seating.
Our server Madison gave some of the worst table service I’ve ever experienced. Our food runner and hostess provided us more service than she did. She didn’t do one table touch after the runner dropped our food which wasn’t prepared correctly order MR steak got well done. Our table wasn’t the only table complaining on her service the family next to us was having the same issue of not being able to find our server anywhere. To close out we had to physically go find our server with our cards to get out of there. The best part of the meal besides leaving was the cheddar biscuits. We understand that restaurant are short staffed but not one table touch a whole meal is unheard of especially a plce like this. The hermosa location definitely has customer service down.
It is too expensive for what it is. Sorry but I don't recommend.
I love this restaurant! Great ambience especially outside with the firepit! Great food, love the oysters with the awesome chive oil...I still think about them. Good service. Good drinks! Overall fun place to relax and enjoy! Thanks.
We have tried getting in to H&P a few times this summer without reservations and they are always too busy to take us in. I finally made reservations (6:45pm) as we were having a friend join us. We were seated quickly, outside, which is what I had requested. There are no heaters at this restaurant! I think it’s the only one in the village with out them. We brought jackets, but heaters would have been nice.
The service was awful. The waitress seemed friendly but took forEVer to get our drink order. We ordered a bottle of champagne and when she came back it was served with wine glasses, which she proceeded to fill generously with the champagne. We ordered oysters and said we are still deciding on dinner. The oysters were delicious but quite small and pricey at $35 for a dozen. Finally, she comes back to take our dinner order around 8pm and then informs us that the cheese biscuits we wanted had just sold out. If only she had taken our order 1/2 hour earlier when we were ready! We were seated in the corner by the street. We felt like she just forgot about us. Our dinner finally arrived at 8:45 pm. It was good, but I was annoyed we were eating so late. Another table that had been seated after us, in her section, had finished and payed before we even got our dinner.
I know restaurants have been struggling with finding good wait staff, and it’s sad because this place has a good reputation and good food. But we won’t be going back anytime soon.
Great spot for consistently good seafood. Friendly to kids.
Food and service was fine, although I do think their prices are a bit high compared to other comparable local restaurants ..biggest issue is on their outdoor space, lots of biting flies..obviously not a great dining experience..it appears they are not washing down their sidewalk and outdoor seating areas..probably would not return
The food was excellent and our server was great. Our only issue was being eaten alive by horseflies. They continually bit us which was quite painful. It was miserable. It must be a frequent issue because our server had bug spray handy. Hopefully they can figure out something to get rid of them because we would love to return. In the meantime, we would be willing to get food to go.
Top quality ingredient and friendly staff -- price on the higher side for what it is.
Consistently pretty good food and good service! Recommend stopping in!
Overall experience was very nice but overshadowed by the fact we were lied to upon checking in. We had a reservation for two and arrived on time. The receptionist offered us a choice of two tables but one was not yet cleared. When we asked if we could have an already cleared table elsewhere we were told it was going to be used with the adjacent (uncleared) table for an “8 top”. However within 5 minutes she seated a group of three and shortly thereafter a group of two at the respective tables.
If the “party of 8” suddenly canceled the receptionist should have explained her misinformation as a courtesy. Otherwise it comes off as a lie and no one appreciates being treated this way.
It was our families first time there. Pleasantly surprised. The cheese platter was great and the salads we got were super tasty. My husband thought the ribeye was excellent, better than restaurants that specialize in steaks. We had no room for dessert but look forward to coming back and trying out more of the menu. Our server was also super sweet. All around a good experience.
server very nice but actual service slow, think the kitchen bogged down.
It was nice to be out and enjoyed the evening. I don't go out often due to the pandemic and am very picky on what restaurant I select. And it turned out to be very pleasant experience. However two comments...we sat at a small table closest to the sidewalk and the table leaned to the left like a boat slowly sinking. It was due to the flooring being on an angle. It was super distracting and was not particularly pleasant. I felt like my drink was going to slide right off the table. And in addition to this, the women behind me was super close - not social distanced at all. The back of her chair was hitting the back of my chair. The tables in that row were way too close to each other and not just enough room. We asked for another table and thankfully there was one available so we moved. The waiter was very accommodating regarding the move. But to be totally transparent, we would have left if we couldn't move, as it would not have been an enjoyable evening for me to endure these two issues.
Paul really saved the show here. I would definitely return for his excellent customer service. But my major complaint is the flies! I must’ve been bitten a dozen times from sitting there and everyone around us was also experiencing the same problem. We even saw another diner go and get off spray for how bad it was! We eventually put our feet up and we’re good to go but boy we will never sit on the grass patio section again. Food was alright, but Paul’s service was what my boyfriend and I walked away still talking highly of as we went to the car.
Maddie was the absolute best server. She was so sweet and attentive. Food was to die for . Highly recommend
Food was only ok -> oysters were the best part. Catch of the day was nicely cooked however sat atop a bow
If grease cited farro that was inedible. Ambience was nice and worked nicely for our table of 5. Service was pleasant but very slow. Would not go again.
The staff was amazing and very accommodating. The food was fresh and unique.
