A wonderful place to "treat yourself" or for a special occasion. I'd come back just for the hors d'oeuvres, so yeah, their food is stellar!
We were counting down the days and last evening we experienced the 4 hr dinner menu and we were blown away!!! To be honest our expectations were neutral mostly because it was our first time and the reviews out there are mostly very positive, However if you base going vs not going on a low score review that focused on they were a picky eater or that someone wore jeans or the food took too long...well think about it🤔 it’s a 4 hr 6 course dinner that is evenly spaced out, the post the attire requirement and menu clearly on their website so perhaps don’t go if these little things bother you🤷♀️ If you have a special celebration or a date night I would highly recommend the Hobbit in terms of, dining experience, friendly staff and cleanliness👌🏻
This was my first time here to celebrate my sister's 50th Birthday and I'm glad I booked this place.
This was a unique and intimate experience which made my sister's milestone birthday felt exceptional.
Love how the evening was organized where you can come an hour early to enjoy cocktails then ushered to the wine cellar for champagne and hors d’oeuvres before going to one of the main dinning rooms for our 5 course prix fixe meal.
I love the ambiance and the intimate feeling where I don't feel I'm sitting in a restaurant with a bunch of people. We were in the dining room with 7 tables which can accommodate 2-4 people with one lager table for up to 6 people. Luckily, the night we went the majority of the tables were couples with us having 3 people and there was 5 people at the larger table. Small and quite lovely. We got to mingle with the other couples during the hors d’oeuvres session and during intermission along with visiting the kitchen to meet the chefs.
There's plenty of food and by the end of the night we were so stuffed! Food was great and you could pick (purchase) a bottle wine or select for the wine pairing (extra cost) if you so choose.
We will definitely be back for our anniversary in September.
This was a fun event. I actually enjoyed the hors d'oveures more than the meal. As people get more buzzed, they get louder. There was a particular group that was seated next to us that were so loud my ears hurt. Nothing on the Hobbit, the food, or the staff. Overall great experience.
Outstanding in every aspect!!
This was my fourth visit since the early 1990's and it keeps getting better each time. This was truly an event and made our son's celebration for passing Law School a very special time.
Love this place, the whole experience is usually amazing. Only drawback this visit was the table full of young people seated in the middle of the room who were loud and unaware of the rest of the guests. Sad to say it detracted from an otherwise wonderful experience.
We had a wonderful dining experience. We were a party of seven and everyone had a spectacular evening. We will definitely return and tell our friends.
We thoroughly enjoyed meeting Matthew, first as the bartender, and then later during dinner when he would explain the wines to us before serving each one.
We spent our second excellent night at The Hobbit for our first anniversary. The appetizers were amazing, all of the courses were incredible and the wine pairing was excellent!
From a cocktail on the patio, to
hors d’ouvres in the wine cellar to a fabulous five course meal, this evening was absolutely wonderful. There is even an intermission in which one of the options was to visit the chefs in the kitchen. It was an amazing experience to talk to chefs with such passion for cooking. Dress up for this dinner. It really is a special night out!
Amazing food and nice ambiance.
Great dining experience with a wonderful staff and chef!
What a wonderful experience. The food was delightful; it was well thought out, portioned well, and plated impeccably. The courses were each enjoyable and offered their own unique experience. We also had one vegetarian dining with us. Chef Mike accomodated our vegetarian well, as I found myself being a little envious of what I was missing out on! Advice: take an opportunity in the wine cellar to discuss wine selections with Matt (he was great). We loved the wine we paired. We chose two moderately priced bottles to go with our dinner and didn't regret it. Know that while your experience will be amazing, don't be surprised by the bill. We spent around $900 for 4 people after tip. Was it worth it? Absolutely.
I’ve been to The Hobbit many times over the years and unfortunately, this was my first disappointing experience. My husband made the reservation for our anniversary, but accidentally checked the box for birthday on Open Table. The good news is one of the owner/managers of The Hobbit called us within 24 hours to ask about any dietary restrictions, and more information on the birthday. I was so happy to be able to correct his mistake and she confirmed it was changed to “anniversary celebration.”
On our special night, we were seated in the main dining room and the center table had 10 millennials who were very loud throughout the entire evening. Then, as we started our last course, dessert, their waiter brought them a special dessert to celebrate someone at the tables “birthday.” They unanimously said no one at their table was celebrating their birthday, and jovially accepted the dessert. They promptly started singing “Happy birthday to none of us...”
It was just an awful evening, especially when we spent over $400 for the dinner which included our two sons.
The meal was good this time, but not all courses were at the same level as in past experiences. I’m certain the loud obnoxious noise level and the “non birthday” celebration right next to us affected our experience.
This was our second time experiencing the Hobbit Restaurant and I can't wait to go again! We were celebrating my two daughter-in-laws Birthday's and it couldn't have been a more wonderful evening!
The attention to detail is unmatched. Service is incredibly personal. You'd think you were the only ones dining with them that night.
I didn't know I could check their website for our chosen night's menu. Do that before you choose because I'd probably have chosen a different entree had I known better.
All in all there's no other dining experience like this. I can't wait to do it again.
Amazing food and even better service. Couldn’t ask for a more cozy unique dining experience
Unique dining experience. Enjoyed it.
The food is delicious; very rich and flavorful. The atmosphere is nice, but if you're a Lord of the Rings fan, don't go in expecting the theme to carry through much of the evening. If you focus on hobbits as creatures who enjoy good food and nice, relaxing times, that much is consistent. In terms of direct references, there is a map of middle earth framed on one wall near the stairs, and that's pretty much where the theme ends. I would still absolutely recommend going, just don't go expecting a Lord of the Rings themed experience.`
Came here to celebrate an anniversary and had an amazing experience! The evening started with gourmet hors d'oeuvres in the downstairs wine cellar, which was a pretty unique experience. About half an hour later, we were escorted back to the main floor into the dining rooms where we were directed to be seated to our assigned tables. Each course was served as if a piece of art was being presented before us. There is a 15-20 minute intermission where they use this time to clean the tables. Food was fantastic and service was great. I definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for something fancy & unique.
Amazing! Just amazing !
We love this restaurant! The food is great, and the ambiance feels subdued, classy and exclusive.
very amazing and perfect place for anniversary. Chef is very nice, and the food is impressive. This is much better than many so-called Michelin restaurants. The only problem is that the food is too much for us, but it can be packed to go
Wonderful 5 star restaurant. Consistently the very best restaurant I’ve been to anywhere. I love that you get to tour the wine cellar, meet the chef, and the servers are so knowledgeable, explaining each course.
Lived up to its splendid reputation. Never been disappointed at the Hobbit.
This place was absolutely OUTSTANDING!! What an incredible presentation of food and ambiance. The reccomendation came from a friend, as I was looking for a place to take my wife for her birthday. LOOK NO FURTHER if you are in the same situation and willing to splurge for an unforgettable dining experience. Thanks to all the Hobbit staff from all of us. Hopefully, we see you again sooner than later. :)
a once in a lifetime expense for us, but the menu was definitely worth it! h'orderuves in the cellar was charming.
but am important note for Tolkien fans : the hobbit theme goes no farther than the name and the one stained glass window. I was disappointed about that, but the building is magnificent in its own right - a converted home from the 40s with lots of cool vintage trim still in place
The food, the service, the ambiance - absolutely amazing. A true dining experience.
Everything about The Hobbit Restaurant is outstanding, the food, the service, the ambiance. It is definitely a place to go for a special occasion that you will always remember. It is not inexpensive but it is a dining experience and worth every penny.
This was a dining EXPERIENCE unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. It is certainly a formal affair in attire and the dinner itself. This is a 4 hour dinner starting with a cocktail hour st the bar upstairs where you are free to walk around the restaurant or just enjoy the outside patio. Once it’s time, you begin with champagne and hors d'oeuvres in the wine cellar. That alone was a great experience and certainly can get you full with all the options you have. Following that it is dinner time where you are seated in one of 3 rooms, the wine cellar, and 2 dining rooms in the main level. The food was great and initially I thought I was going to still be hungry due to the smaller portion size however I felt quite content afterwards. I would recommend getting the wine pairings as they do accentuate the food. Service was great and all of the servers and the general manager, Matt, was very friendly and personable. Yes it is quite pricey but you are paying not only for the food but the experience of fine dining at a great establishment. Would certainly recommended for anyone to try even at lease once in their lifetime
This was our 2nd time to the restaurant and it was on point. We love the variety of courses and were very satisfied with out dinner and overall experience. We will be back!
First time here and it was an amazing experience. This isn’t going out for a meal, it’s a completely unique experience that is pricey but well worth it.
Food and ambiance were wonderful from start to finish!
Fantastic culinary experience! From all aspects, the setting, the food, the wine, and the service, The Hobbit is the place to dine, especially for those special occasions.
Would like one or two additional
Options for the main course.
I reserved the wine cellar for my wife’s milestone birthday and had a phenomenal night. We had a table for fifteen in our own room with a wine cellar ambience where we did not have to worry about disturbing any other guests. The food was terrific and the service impeccable. They accommodated the dietary restrictions of several of our party and all dishes were devoured. They assisted me with the wine pairings, which were spot on. Overall, I could not be happier with the whole event.
Great atmosphere. They present a great meal and have a great attention to the customers.
For almost 50 years this has been one of the best place for our grand events. Also one of the best wine list in the USA.
Amazing place. You don’t get a dining experience like that very often.
