The Hill - Closter, NJ
The style takes a cue from Scandinavian minimalism with a rustic farmhouse decor accented by mid-century design elements, industrial elements and warm earthy colors and natural tones. The atmosphere is inviting and approachable, suitable for everyday dining and also features a full bar, private dining room and outdoor patio.

Had to send meal back to heat
Salad was good but main dish arrive not cooked (fish) and everything was very salty. Has to go ho after and eat my left overs from the night before that was better.
We had a great dinner at The Hill. We were two couples and everyone enjoyed everything from appetizers to dessert. We never felt rushed and our server, Stephanie was great. :)
Beautifully designed space with features to allow for a superior dining experience, i.e., high ceilings, spacing of tables, large windows, fireplace; food is exceptional, and the focus on excellent service is most welcomed! Highly recommend!
Great food, wine and service. Beautiful cozy dining area
Not only was the food and service incredible but the thoughtfulness that went into honoring the birthday reservation put the experience over the top. Will absolutely be coming back!
Food, cocktails, and service all outstanding. In addition, Frank made special efforts to ensure that this family reunion from up and down the East Coast went off without a hitch. THANK YOU!!!
I recommended The Hill for a group of friends and I am so glad I did. Everyone loved their meal and even made room for yummy desserts.
Awesome place for get together
Excellent night out!
Very disappointed with this restaurant. After a mediocre meal,I was followed to the parking lot asking where my payment was. Handled in a very disturbing manner. Won’t be back.
Fabulous atmosphere. Delicious food. Exceptional services
Love this place!! Excellent food and service. I can't wait to go back!
The service was perfect, the food was Delicious
Always a great meal. The Hill was crowded and fun....
Beautiful place with delicious food and nice service!
great food and service.
I had brick chicken and she had hamburger.
We shared crab cake for appetizer, and it was perfect.
Yummy food at a great value
Nice food & ambiance
Can’t wait to come back soon
Love The Hill!
Great food and service!
Lovely ambience, and each group was able to dine without disturbing one another- which made for the perfect evening. The food was generally good. My friend had the lamb and that seemed to be the best dish for the table.
Food is excellent. I had the chicken under a brick and it was so moist and savory. Martini was perfect, made exactly how I like it. Entire staff on top of their game
The Hill remains one of the absolute best restaurants in our area, or near the NYC vicinity for that matter.
The drinks are absolute perfection. One of the best specialty cocktails of any restaurant.
The menu may be a bit limited but if your a true fine diner, you would hope there are a few things done great rather than a lot of things done ok. The Hill absolutely delivers on quality food and great flavor with attention to plating for a full experience. As for value, yes, it is pricey. But you get the best, so I gave it 5 stars for value for what you actually get.
Just try it if you haven’t and if you have, you probably agree.
Loved the atmosphere and the service was great! Food was also very good
Outstanding and delicious!
We decided to try The Hill after seeing it on a list of the 30 best restaurants in New Jersey from New Jersey magazine. It does not belong on this list.
First the good- the dining room is beautiful. Stone fireplace, beamed ceiling, contemporary artwork, and the spacious interior, all led to an amazing look.
Our server Amber was prompt, courteous and pleasant.
She served us delicious focaccia with olive oil. So far so good.
Now the food-We ordered ceviche ($15) to share as an appetizer. It was good. My husband ordered the Moroccan style lamb tagine ($28), which he said was tasty, but there wasn’t much lamb. I had the mahi mahi fish tacos ($18 for three) which also were good but did not contain not much fish.
The restaurant was empty. 2 other tables were occupied, so the noise level was quite low.
I have to add that the manager (?) was wearing jeans and a plaid shirt with many visible tattoos on his arms. He seemed out of place in such a beautiful, expensive restaurant. He also was not very welcoming or polite.
I did not see a handicapped entrance and there were about eight steps to enter and exit the restaurant, which made it difficult for someone with any physical issues.
The bar and outside patio were doing a brisk business, so I may have misjudged the type of establishment The Hill was. I think it would be fine if you are looking for drinks with friends, but not for fine dining.
Ms. Geraghty, I don't accept the criticism of my manager's visible tattoos. I don't stereotype or judge appearances. I disagree he's not welcoming or polite. He's received plentiful effusive compliments on his friendliness and professionalism, I'm proud he's the face of The Hill. While beautiful, you're correct, The Hill is not a fine dining restaurant. It's approachable, accessible, "an elevated experience in a casual environment". Hence the casual dress of my team. Ben Pollinger, chef/owner
Really comfortable and attractive restaurant. Competent and friendly service. We would gladly recommend to others.
the physical restaurant is understated yet elegant..the staff were all pleasant and professional. the food was delicious and excellently prepared and plated. On my most recent visit I had the tuna special which was outstanding. definitely planning to return !
we started with cocktails at the bar, which were amazing, the bartender was knowledgeable and friendly. my husband chose from their menu and ordered a "paper plane" which he raved about.
our server was sweet & helpful. the apps terrific-the mac & cheese with short rib special was creative and not heavy.
we had skirt steak and duck for dinner, both of which were not only delicious but presented beautifully and cooked perfectly.
frank (the manager) was attentive as well, friendly and accommodating.
what a wonderful place to celebrate our 30th anniversary!!! :)
Dined in the outdoor area. The food was phenomenal. Very nicely plated & presented. Service was excellent. Food was served hot and in a timely manner. Highly recommend The Hill.
What a lovely restaurant. I hope to return often. It's a little pricey but my meal was worth every penny. Our server was excellent and our meal was served without any delays. My guest and I were lucky enough to eat on the patio, on a gorgeous day, but the interior of the restaurant was simply beautiful too.
It was our first time at this restaurant, and it was some of the best quality food I've had. I highly recommend it.
Always enjoy dining at The Hill. It has a great casual atmosphere, always great food, quiet atmosphere and great service. Their fall cocktails are amazing……
Staff was wonderful. Frank and Andrew are a dream team.
Beautiful restaurant with attentive service. Wish the food was better!
Great food , great service . Friendly and very attentive staff . ❤️ Will definitely be back .
Yesterday's lunch with the Roomie was delicious! We had the Mushroom Risotto and the Moroccan Style Lamb Tagine. Nicely decorated location with friendly and hospital staff. The food was delicious, and we look forward to coming back to try more.
I always enjoy dining here because the food is great, the service is attentive without being fussy or intrusive, very professional, and the general atmosphere relaxing.
Ben Pollinger has taken all of his years as a chef and has molded a winning dining experience. I love coming here!
The Hill provides a fine dining experience from the minute you are greeted until you leave. The staff are friendly and very professional. The drinks are top notch. The food is always amazing. A number of people in our party had the Moroccan Lamb. It was the best meal I have had in a very long time. The atmosphere at The Hill is quiet which allows for nice conversations at the table.
