Food was ok but service was quite slow & poor. Very young and un trained staff were serving us. We had to keep calling them over for drinks or other items. They were pleasant enough but clearly very new and inexperienced. I am sure with better training they would be fine.

Much improved in all respects since our last visit in the summer of 2017. New owners? new chef? Food was superb, lovely and hot well presented and friendly service. Good value for money. Back on our list of regular places to eat.

We often come here for Sunday carvery which is very good so thought we would try an evening meal for my Mum's birthday. I am afraid the overall service let down the whole experience. When we arrived, instead of being taken to our table by the waitress, she just pointed and said you are at that table over there. After being to a busy bar area to get our drinks we found out that the 2 waitress standing around did not take orders so we had to go back to the busy bar again and wait to give our food orders. When the food came it was very good, especially my seafood platter. Everyone thought the food was good except for my Mum who had gone for one of the specials. It was so poor especially for being a special. She had one tiny piece of fish with no sauce, 4-5 very small new potato's, a few carrots and a few bits of broccoli. All the veg was hard and there was not enough to satisfy even a person with the smallest appetite. We told the waitress about the hard veg but she just said oh right and there was no apology. When we spoke to the chap at the bar and said why don't the waitress take the orders he said he liked people to come to the bar so the staff could meet them. We all felt this was a lame reason and probably did not trust the teenage waitresses to take the orders. It is a real shame as the place is lovely and the food generally is pretty good but is missing a professional touch. We said we would not return for an evening meal but just stick to the Sunday Carvery.

I have used the Highwaymans a lot as I live nearby , and I have to say having changed hands recently it was the best meal we have had for a long time, friendly staff , good ambiance, and most importantly they allow dogs in the restaurant which for a dog walker it's lovely to be in the warm rather than having to eat outside, highly recommend this place .

First visit - with friends. Lovely meal. So many things we would have liked, but had to ration ourselves - so will definitely be visiting again soon. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice surroundings and ambience. I would have been happy to stay and sit on one of the sofas with a pot of tea and a book! Would definitely recommend to friends. In fact our friends were talking about coming back in the week with relatives - so they may have even been today...

Staff need to be more attentive, we didn’t now what to do and no staff helped other than site use at the table. Food was nice but warm and nobody asked if we needed drinks which we ended up going to the bar to get them

As it is under new management I decided to see if it was better than previous management. I was very pleased that the place was so much better than before and I wish the new people all the luck in the world as they are excellent hosts and deserve to do well. Sunday lunch was lovely couldn't fault it. Previously I had a birthday dinner there with family and that was excellent.

Had a lovely meal hear on a Friday night. Booked a table the night before - would recommend doing that as you get the table for as long as you want! Lovely atmosphere, cosey and warm and inviting. Very rustic looking. We had the chip shop platter which was super delisious. Was pleased to see they locally sourced their ingredients. The customer service was good and they where happy to help with anything we asked of them. The pub had just been taken over by a new couple and I wish them the best in there new adventure.

The pub had only recently changed hands which may have been why the staff seemed a little overstretched. Despite that, the food was excellent and the atmosphere very relaxing. We would definitely dine there again. We had booked to return the following day for a Sunday Carvery but we had to change our plans, unfortunately the telephone number on the website did not work - so we were unable to cancel. Please check your phone number is correct. The staff were very attentive and pleasant. We live locally and have been looking for a good 'bolt hole' for meals out..... we have found it. Thank you for making our evening very pleasant.
